  1. Agreed. Current financials, potential financials, and academics all play a big part in conference invites/movement. A couple of good football years is nice but not nearly as important. Outside of Rice and UAB, I don't see other CUSA schools that fit well in the AAC. UAB would need to increase its athletic budget a lot, but they may have the potential and support to do it. I think a lot of AAC schools would throw a fit if other CUSA schools were invited like FAU or FIU... that would be seen as watering-down the AAC similar to what happened with CUSA. Will be fun to watch this all play out 🙂
  2. I wonder if the MWC will be ultra aggressive and try to immediately pull 2 schools in as replacements for CSU and AF. What if the MWC had UNT (DFW Market) and UTSA (San Antonio Market) in mind ... would UNT and/or UTSA be interested and accept? I know some folks have mentioned UTSA as an AAC option... but they are $20+ million away from having an AAC-type athletic budget (and that is the lower-end of the AAC). That's a big gap. Rice has much more capability to raise their athletic budget to AAC-levels (if they are interested in a jump to the AAC, bringing the Houston market). Both UNT and UTSA already have low-end MWC budgets today.
  3. While we're taking a stroll down misery lane, might I add the 72-0 dismantling we received at the hands of Nevada in 1991 - speaking of poorly-coached games. Ah, the joys of being a Mean Green fan... 🙃
  4. This is the news that has intrigued me the most recently... a suggestion that UNT and Tulsa could be in discussions with the MWC. Adding UNT and Tulsa would give the MWC 14 football-playing schools (if no schools left). The most curious part of this suggestion to me is Tulsa. If they even slightly entertained a move to the MWC, then they must see the "new AAC" as the lesser of the 2 conferences.
  5. Now that Bert has picked SMU to win, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about our chances Saturday 😎
  6. I really don't think SMU plays into us being in-or-out of the AAC other than they would have 1 vote on new conference membership. What really plays into a future invite for UNT is what UNT brings to the AAC (or MWC, etc.). If we were super-attractive to the AAC, the conference members would want UNT in the conference whether we're 5 miles or 500 miles from SMU. We're in a metro area of 7.5 million people, and there's no overlap between UNT and SMU. More fans and a larger athletic budget are key. I believe our athletic budget (~40 million) is about 13 million away from the lowest AAC athletic budget.
  7. I'll take the #2 with a side of Mason Fine please 😎
  8. I also wish we had men's soccer and baseball (my son is at DBU... and good college baseball is awesome). Although... men's soccer would be *much* less expensive to field a team (facilities already in place - game field and practice field). I think many D1 soccer teams only have 8-10 players on full scholarship also ... other players are partial scholly's or walk-ons... so wouldn't jeopardize our Title IX balance. Plus, I think we could quickly field a competitive men's soccer program, making us more attractive to another conference in the future.
  9. Amazing - similar feeling to when we got to see our Mean Green beat Cincinnati in New Orleans for our first bowl win 🙂 I agree - no fan base deserves this more than us!!!
  10. Being objective about Siggers transferring... Siggers would have been #3 on the depth chart coming into Spring. And with a stud in Isaiah Johnson pushing for playing time, Siggers could have slipped to #4 by the end of Spring. Bottom line is that UNT is way deeper at the RB position than SMU... so Siggers transferring for playing time makes a lot of sense for him and SMU. I wish Siggers all the best... I hope he competes well and gets playing time at SMU. He's a great athlete.
  11. It's a North Texas tradition (who says we don't have traditions here?) ☺️
  12. Please fire the entire D staff.... I mean this is so pathetic.
  13. If we had real D coaches, we might actually adjust to that play.... 🤪
  14. After halftime, we go 3 and out (2 runs up the middle and a terrible pass play), and then call timeout on D. Is this some kind of a bad joke?!?
  15. Announcers... that's the 3rd time UNT has run the same play... have to think the D is ready for that... 🙂
  16. The route is on... How can we really be this bad against an SBC team... They are soooo much better than us.
  17. I wish Bean had progressed to a point where he could really read the field well. Honestly, we might as well let Kason and others play. This game is about getting ready for next year.
  18. Defense is horrible and already gassed... not a good sign. I wonder how long we keep Bean in the game with 2 bad throws and a bad zone read already.
  19. Agreed... he probably should have just taken the KSU job. I don't think he'll get that kind of an offer again. 😎 Anyway, we have obviously regressed a lot. The proof's in the pudding... our arrow is not pointing up with performance on the field. My hope is that Littrell cares enough to really open up a can and whip this thing into some resemblance of a contender again. As of now, I think La Tech and Southern Miss will take care of us pretty easily.
  20. I really hope we quickly (like next year) move back to a 4-man D-Line. I've never been a fan of the 3-man line in college football (especially at UNT 🙂 ). Defense starts with making the QB uncomfortable, and we made the HBU QB look like a Davey O'Brien finalist.
  21. Yeah, as a diversion from COVID... the Summer of 1980 in Texas was the worst... my Junior High football team (Graham, TX) started practice a week late, and practice times were very limited. I imagine it was the same for many High Schools and Universities. It was so hot... that the blacktop asphalt road in front of our house would bubble and pop in the middle of the afternoon! 117 degrees in Wichita Falls that year. Brutal......
