  1. Wow they almost drink as much Koolaid as we do.
  2. I was thinking about this in perspective: for whatever reasons - probably a combination of administration problems and the lack of winning - we have become pretty cynical/bitter about our football program around here. But, for a positive spin: I think the fact that people are being so nit-picky and vocal in their complaints means they (we) care.
  3. Sometimes they are not polite. Abusive? nah, but they have been difficult.
  4. That's the first time I've taken a good look at our HOF. Scott Hall has just about every angle covered to get in: longevity? check value to the team? check winning? check 3 bowls (4?)? check If you go on college performance alone (and not pro career), I might argue he should have been given priority over Kassell and any other members of the 2001 - 2004 squads with the exception of Booger. He was, after all, a DCTF POY and wasn't he on the cover (not that it should be the sole reason...)? Did anyone remember Jalie Mitchell as a double sport HOF? Crazy, but I don't remember her on the grid iron.
  5. best, as in top-50? That's a heck of a list to try and populate. And sports debates about "all time greats" is impossible. Athletes even 10 years ago are apples to today's oranges.
  6. AP Turner MJD Forte DeAnglo Williams Cobbs .... 25. Brown 26. R. Williams
  7. The Big Bad Belt with all our Big Bad upsets the last couple years still can't top the scholly-limited, FBS Colonial Conference?
  8. ha! I got a giggle out of the comment re: 2-back set being an "interesting look." I thought it was "interesting" the first time I saw JJ's Run'n Shoot, a flea-flicker or Leach's Spread attack. Where are we in the grand scheme of football when a fundamental two-back set is even remotely interesting to our AD?
  9. Deloach says a lot of the poor tackling is attributed to poor positioning. They hit the film room hard this week and the Green Gang says there is a sizable difference in the D from the Saturday scrimmage to the practices this week. That writeup reads like it was a review after the scrimmage. I spent a few minutes catching up on the chats this week. To review: There was a poster questioning the role of Gilmore on the team. Arguable the team's top NFL prospect is playing 2nd string on the nation's worst defense the last two years. The counter-point was basically his motor is poor; "potential" and "talent" mean you haven't done anything yet. Cantly is going to spend the next few days holding off the competiton. It looks like our DTs are beasts (Atkinson and ?) NFL scouts are watching Cam. 2-back sets..!? BJ Lewis is the story of the fall camp. Most consistent WR threat we have. Additionally, it looks like Roberson is finally coming around along with several of the other wideouts. The OU transfer, despite the ruling on his eligibility, is working hard and helping tremendously in practice. Good attitude. He is spinning our DBs in some drills? My personal opinion: good reads; but I'll believe when I see all this translate to the field in Muncie.
  10. BUMP. A couple things I liked from this AM's chat: D. Carey = the next J. Branch? 2-back set?!
  11. If you follow Twitter, Tobe said this AM practice went very well. Hopefully this becomes a recurring trend/theme.
  12. For the sake of continuing this convo, can someone elaborate on OMV and Slaughter's impact within their team. Both of them seemed like Mean Green killers. I'm not looking for anything new here; just a refresher course in Sun Belt bball.
  13. Crap! Watch the NCAA find a way to use this to dock our APR.
  14. I have a hard time believing that the NCAA can put "UNT" and "waiver" in the same sentence without a denial.
  15. Less than 3 weeks away and I can see how some of you all have forgotten how completely whipped we were the last two years. I feel like such a Mean Green humbug for saying all this, but the offense - while there has been a lot to gripe about - has not been even close to the source of our problems. Based on what I've been reading, those problems still linger. The only positive I can muster regarding our defense is it seemed to look like it was building an identity the last three games in 2008. I hope it continues and starts to reflect on the scoreboard in 2009. To revisit:
  16. There is definitely some irony regarding the o-line observations. We came into the fall excited about having Nelson on staff who - along with DeLoach and Peterson! - are the grizzly vets. I've learned to bite the tongue during fall practice. You just never know if these successes will really carry into the season, or if it just means someone else on the squad is absolutely terrible. But I will say this: Leftwich is way under-appreciated.
  17. It will be a gauge, but I wouldn't call the first game the gauge. The Game 1 to Game 2 learning curve is usually the biggest jump of the season. I think Ohio will give us better indication of where this team will stand.
  18. Maybe DeLoach can negotiate some kind of arrangment with opposing OCs?
  19. 8:15 am? As in Saturday morning?
