  1. HH, You beat me to the same topic by a couple of minutes. I don't think many people here have been bashing players individually. What people are saying, is that some of DD's players may not be the types of players that TD would necessarily recruit. You see this kind of the thing in the NFL all the time. Buddy Ryan comes into Philly and wants physical players. Jimmy Johnson comes into Dallas and gets rid of some pretty big names, because they don't fit his style of play. I bring up these 2 coaches because they were pretty extreme with cleaning house at first. Some players are going to adapt to the new system and some won't. Those that don't are probably going to fall out of favor quickly. This does not mean the cut players have no talent. They just don't fit well with the new team chemistry. Could DD win more games this year with this team ? Very possible. Will TD win more games in the next few years than we would have with DD ? I would take that bet in a second if possible. The fact is, TD is out recruiting anything we have seen in the past. Somehow we all need to find a middle ground here. Bashing the coaching staff after 1/2 of the season is just ridiculous and seems like something only a novice would say (no offense, but good lord). And, bashing the players in a public forum is probably also counterproductive. It really does seem that some users have specific motives when it comes to their comments, because the arguments are far from logical.
  2. Do you really think we would have averaged 14,500 this season ? I thank DD for bringing some respect to the program. But, things were sliding fast.
  3. Doesn't FAU have horrible attendance, even with a decent team. Good luck with that.
  4. That was a great post MedPilot ! "this guy has already done more for UNT than we could ever have paid for? Season tickets - up, contributions to the Mean Green Club " BINGO !!! TD has jumpstarted a dead program. The recovery signs are all there. The wins and losses will come, but it is way too early. Enjoy watching the team come together over the next couple of seasons.
  5. " or are we still be another year out on development ??? " I mentioned before the first game, that it might be 3 or 4 seasons before we really start to see this team seriously compete (conference title and some national recognition). A lot of people thought that was too long. But, facts are facts. Rebuilding jobs just do not happen overnight. And, most freshmen need some college experience before they are able to excel (with a few exceptions). Not to mention that TD had a very late start in recruiting this year. That alone could set things back just a bit also. A rebuilding job takes 3 to 5 years before you can really judge the results. That may be too long for some people. I for one am willing to wait that long after seeing this program floundering around since the "Fry" days, which were before my college time anyway. "We seem to have a super crew of receivers............" I agree. We do have a nice set of receivers. But, good receivers will never be hard to recruit with this offensive system in place.
  6. To those impatient ones....... When a new coach takes over at any level (even the NFL), he often will sit players that give him a better opportunity to win today, for players that will give him the best chance to succeed in the future. The exceptions are schools like OU that are constantly retooling instead of rebuilding. TD is completely rebuilding. He is starting and playing a lot of freshmen. Some of them are true freshmen. It is true that DD might have been able to squeeze and extra win or two out of this group this season. But, the goal for everyone on this board should be to take the program to the next level. We were not getting there with DD. We do have a chance with TD. Please, please have patience. The team is rebuilding. Any time there is rebuilding there is usually a step backwards before real progress can be made. Do not mistake this for a lack of progress in the long run. It's a rough season for everyone. Criticizing the team right now is both premature and unnecessary.
  7. That was a terrific performance by your defense today. I would hate to have seen the final score, if your offense didn't have all the turnovers. Good luck the rest of the year. Troy would make an excellent Sun Belt representative.
  8. I am not so sure we should be bashing the defense today. They have played well enough to win IMO. Troy has a good team. They are probably the best the Sunbelt has ever had to offer. Now that Vizza has led the team to a score, I would consider having him sit until next week. Giovanni has taken an absolute beating. I am surprised he is still walking around upright. Let's finish this one out and pack it in without any unnecessary injuries.
  9. This just in..........our special teams need major help in the offseason
  10. Wow. One of the worst halves of offensive football I have seen. Troy gives us all those turnovers and we turn them into ZERO points. Vizza had a very poor half. But, I blame the lack of protection for causing most of this mess. Troy's defense is just toying with our protection schemes. Not a fun game to watch The good news is that Robertson looks like he will be a beast for the next few years. Lets hope the offense can at least score a couple in the 2nd half. It will be interesting to see how our staff adjusts to the blitz packages.
  11. That last 1:30 was about to give me a coronary. If ULM makes that last 2 pt conversion, I would have been squirming in my seat at the end.
  12. The Emails are a terrific idea. Kudos to whoever on the administration came up with the suggestion !
  13. Traditional powerhouses are having to share more of their money, and the schools and their fans don't like it. It was funny listening to Mike Reiner on The Ticket yesterday going off about all the "directional" schools in 1A (i.e. South Florida, Central Florida). What is so bad about a directional school ? How is that worse than a technical school (Tech's) or an agriculture and marine school (A&M's). Times change. Eventually, I can see the private schools having to form their own league. They won't be able to compete with the larger state schools as time goes on.
  14. I think the writer is just being kind regarding the worst game. IMO it had to be our game against OU. I am a Penn State fan 2nd to UNT. The PSU/FIU game was not as bad as our game against OU. Penn State is not as dangerous as OU. We will not lose to FIU. I expect our team to click more as the season goes on. FIU is a team in trouble right now. Plus, we will also pull off another win or two in addition to FIU for a 3 or 4 win season. That would be a nice way to end TD's first year.
  15. The one concern I would have if I was Troy, is that the NT defense has found some confidence after last weekend. I am pretty sure our offense will put up at least some decent offensive numbers. If the defense plays as well as they did last weekend, it could be a very tough game. You guys have a good team and really represent the Sun Belt well. We all have a lot of respect (and even some jelousy) for your out of conference achievements.
  16. Vizza is going to have an outstanding career here at NT, if he doesn't kill himself first trying to make the extra yard. I was very impressed with his pocket presence against ULM. He did not get happy feet and stayed in the pocket even under some pretty heavy pressure at times. He is very poised and has outstanding leadership skills for a freshman straight out of high school. I get the feeling the kid is going to be something special.
  17. Yes, this is complete BS. There is no way one of our players said that.
  18. This is absolutely true. The message board stuff affects a lot of us. I own a firm that develops gaming/entertainment software. Despite the fact that our products are very highly rated, you will always have naysayers. Because of this, I completely stay away from public forums where negative discussions about our products might possibly take place. There was a short period in the beginning (4 years ago), when I fell into the public forum trap. It is not worth the time and effort to debate potential or current customers. Plus, having to defend yourself looks bad any way you present your case. If you put out a good product, your customers will do any necessary debating for you when needed. This same holds true in this forum. If someone is out of line when it comes to criticizing coaches or players, the majority will usually come to the defense of the player/coach being criticized. The best advice I could give to any players or coaches regarding public forums, is to do the best job you can and let your supportive fans fight your battles for you. Also, don't hold grudges. The criticizing fans will more than likely be humbled anyway, when things start to turnaround. I hate using a non-football example in this case. But, the same holds true for anyone that is in the public eye, regardless of the profession.
  19. That is one of the reasons why I hate the NCAA FB overtime format. There were 48 points scored in OT. If this was the NFL format, there would be a maximum of 6 scored in the OT. The current OT format unrealistically inflates team statistics I would be OK with the format if they would not keep appending each score to the total score. For statistical purposes, they should just throw out the matching scores and only keep the last series added to the final score. The college OT system really messes things up for those of us that like to keep up with statistics.
  20. I don't have photos. But, IMO Fouts has never looked better. They didn't just update the bathrooms, it looks like they totally gutted them. There is only so much you can do with that stadium design. But, the university has done a terrific job keeping our "interrum" stadium updated, while the new one is hopefully moving along.
  21. This news is unfortunate and certainly taints a great evening for everyone last night. Our program cannot afford to lose passionate fans like FFR, who have put so much time and effort into supporting the team through thick and thin. I can only hope that this is all due to a big misunderstanding. If someone associated with the FB program had a beef with Rick, I wish it could have been handled in a more private setting.
  22. I was very surprised by the crowd that came to see an 0-5 team play. I was thinking we might lose about 5,000 fans from the opener. I think this basically shows that a lot of the fans are in it for the long haul this time. It was a great night for families. The new bathrooms, Boomer sounded great, the fireworks and a nice victory to go along with everything. For the first time, my 10 year old son had a blast from start to finish. The two times I took him last season, he was begging to go home by halftime. With the Navy game still on tap, this team should have no problem averaging over 20K this year, unless we get a really bad weather game. Congrats to the entire University for putting on a great show tonight.
  23. I second this Rick. One of my young sons attended the game tonight and just loved the cannon. Boomer sounded better than ever !
  24. We also need to consider that the games are longer and more plays have been run against us. This is going to inflate both the offensive and defensive stats. We are not as good as our offensive stats show. And, we are not as bad as the defensive stats show. I think the difference between this years D and last year is the number of big plays against us. Cut those down and things get considerably better. That being said, our D has not been an asset for several years now.
  25. LMAO Sorry KJ86, but you left yourself open with that one
