  1. Are we even sure UNT plays UTSA next year? If so, I would circle this game on the calendar if I'm RV and McCarney. Should be a lot riding on this game.
  2. Lol. I was watching the first guy and thinking... Hmm. Looks like he's doing everything right. No brutality at all. I mean, he's having to deal with some smart-alecking, not only from the guy he's wrestled to the ground, but also from the heckler with the camera. Probably had to call for backup and is just waiting... Then the second cop comes in like George Teague, and the smart-alecking stops (sans the camera dude under his breath). I like this guy. Then I realized that was the dude you were highlighting as needing to be defended... oops. It's very simple. Don't break the law, and you won't have officer Arnold-654, flying in to knee you in the head when officer do-gooder calls for backup because you're being a douchebag.
  3. Oddly enough: in Football, yes. In Basketball, no. I think that has alot to do with what was deconstructed in football over the past 7 years, and what was built-up in basketball over the past 7 years...
  4. Coach McCarney goes conservative after a pick 6 to try and make sure his team hangs onto the victory; loses, and gets slammed here for "quitting" on the team. I think I understand the sentiment, but "quit" is not the right term. At all. What if... Coach McCarney decides to continue attacking, DT turns the ball over again, or UNT stalls & still has to punt (maybe 10 - 20 yards further down the field), and WKU wins this way as well... what would you guys be saying? I bet it would be something like this: "Why didn't he go conservative and just run the ball to protect the lead and drain clock?!?", or something like that. Everyone at every level protects leads late in the game by minimizing TO opportunities via running the ball. I thought this was elementary? The answer should always be "NO!" to attacking for the sake of attacking with a small lead at the end of the game simply because we've already lost bowl eligibility. Hello!?! You Play. To Win. The Game! Protect your lead by running the ball: effectively. Solid, common-sense coaching by McCarney/Canales, poor execution by the players. I bet 100% of the players would agree with me. Now, I'm still VERY concerned with the level of talent we currently have on the roster (based on what we saw this year) going into our inaugural year in C-USA. McCarney is losing time getting "his guys" in here. That excuse goes about 2 years, max. Need some results now, and it's not going to be easier in 2013.
  5. I appreciate your humility... but you guys, as fans, and your team should be very confident coming into this game. I don't expect anything like last year's debacle either, but that's only because Mitchell is on the floor. You did know we were beaten by a DII team right? Go Mean Green!
  6. Any chance Vizza would consider coming back under a new coach?
  7. Looking around at the C-USA landscape, I'd take a rivalry with LA Tech or UTEP. Tulsa would be fine as well, but they're so... tiny.
  8. Bingo. This year, we were supposed to "take the next step". I'm hoping the guys prove us wrong though. This thing can still 'click' at some point...
  9. I really hope Kidsey keeps his commitment. He looks like a star, and other teams are taking notice.
  10. Look, Everyone who is saying to tame "unfair", or "lofty" expectations on this team need to turn around and say the exact same thing to the player who put the expectations there in the first place: Tony Mitchell. http://www.dentonrc....staying-put.ece The last thing that I, or anyone else lamenting these losses, want is for this special season to be torpedoed by this odd line change gimmick. We're watching this team fall behind good/great teams, only to find some chemistry and battle back (or "make it interesting"), and because of these wacky line changes, have their momentum annihilated. If this team doesn't find some continuity soon, they will be relying on winning the SBC tourney to get into the NCAA's. And if we don't win, I wonder if we'll get even a sniff for the NIT? If this is the case, this season is a failure. Glass half-full, glass half-empty, who cares? Either way, there is room for more. Expect more. There is a revenge game coming against UTA for these guys. There should be no doubt we win this game. Then, a game that should give us a barometer reset against an SBC foe. Then, another shot at a legit team. Another ~20pt loss should not be expected/accepted. The IUPUI game was impressive, but the other games have been "meets expectations" or "does not meet expectations".
  11. This thread was losing badly, but you're definitely on a roll with this meme, and you're bringing it back to something worth reading. Maybe if you keep up this meme, you could get this thread back to an enjoyable read... Time to bench this meme and put in a new one.
  12. I thought I read somewhere that it was aspirated (drained), not scoped?
  13. The only schools worth a durn in SBC is WKU and MTSU... check the Bubas Cup standings. If C-USA is going to pull any more schools up from SBC, these are the only two who should be considered. Unless they want to do a clean swap TX St for UTSA. I'm cool with that too.
  14. I really think if you stack them top to bottom, Big 12 is just as good as, if not better than the Big10/11/12/13/14 and Pac12. Oklahoma is in this conference as well. This year's KS St... OK St & WVU are perennial top 25 teams. TX Tech bounces in and out of the top 25. It is a very competitive league. It's most powerful member is obviously UT, but the conference does not rely on UT to carry them.
  15. We really need protection for our bigs because I heard that Virginia is dirty down low.
  16. Depends on which teams advance. The coaches of the two teams who advance will meet and decide where to play pretty quickly after their previous win. Usually somewhere midway for both teams. So don't look for a Ryan or Guyer game at Apogee (Ryan's about to get bounced by the CHill this weekend anyway), unless they're maybe playing a Flower Mound school or something. No games at Apogee this weekend, but maybe next weekend...
  17. I know SMU is desperate for wins to open the Brown era, but scheduling a 4a high-school team?!? C'mon Man! Head over to Ft. Worth and stop in for some Joe T.'s while there.
  18. I don't think there's any question he cares... he's just not good at running FB operations. The problem is not with Jerry the owner. He's one of the best. The problem is with Jerry the GM. He's one of the worst. After the game this weekend, he said that Doug Free's performance was "Stellar". What game was he watching?!? Lance has to be thinking, "Wow! this is just like UNT. Pressure is coming every down and my O-Line can't block it." (That has changed this season for the Mean Green, thankfully)
  19. This was probably as good as I have seen/heard the guys this year. Franklin had an awesome game, and I LOVE this stat: Fast break points-IUPUI 4,NT 20. IMO, winning this stat will be a key indicator that Benford's system is actually working. I'll still say there's worry, but if we can beat Virginia (who trounced Lamar) at their house, I'll feel much better about this thing turning around.
  20. Coach Benford said that he really likes what he sees out of Coleman in his interview after the game yesterday... So why is he not playing? UNT90, how do you know it's a grades thing?
  21. We're really taking it to them in the paint and getting all kinds of fouls...
