  1. Are we talking about SMU here? Sounds more like a discussion about a traditional BCS powerhouse, not a lower level Conference USA school. Listen, any hire of a successful head coach from the D-1 level for SMU is a steal. They haven't won in years. When was the last time they played in a bowl game for that matter? Hell, a hire of anyone at this point would be good for the university.
  2. Never mind, just found out that Akina was calling the plays last season. http://colleges.beloblog.com/archives/2007/01/07/
  3. I understand that, but I assume both didn't call plays. Was it MacDuff or Duane Akina calling the shots?
  4. Did MacDuff call the plays last season for the Horns or was it the other co-coordinator?
  5. Playoff for sure. This system does no justice in determining who is the "national champ". Just like the thread going on about V-Tech, that's why we play the games. The current system is just speculation on who is best. Until the players can actually determine on the field who is best, its not fair.
  6. I actually agree with you here, I'm just saying talent wise, V-Tech is the better team. They played out of character last night in the fact they didn't continue to run the football where they dominated the most. Also had a blocked field goal, which is way out of character for the Hokies. I understand that's why you play the game but Glennon didn't play up to par and Ore was out for the first quarter. I give all the congrats in the world to the Jayhawks and their big win. I just think if you play this game three or four weeks ago, the Hokies win. As terrible as they played, they still lost by a field goal. Just a bad night for the Hokies and a good one for the Jayhawks.
  7. I don't think you were wrong about Kansas, V-Tech just gave that game away last night (see other post). Turnovers lead directly to 17 points and a blocked field goal is 20 total. No Brandon Ore in the first quarter either. V-Tech is the better team, just not last night.
  8. Please don't get my hopes up. I can't emphasize enough how good of coach DeLoach is. Like FFR said in another post, the defense of 2002 was amazing. We ranked in the top 10 in the nation in several catagories. We held Cedric Benson to 58 yds. rushing, sacked Sims eight times, and only gave up 214 yds total offense (I think those numbers are right). That unit was one of the most well coached units I have ever seen. If DeLoach comes back and stays for an extended period of time, I can promise, great things will happen to this program.
  9. True. However, I think if there wasn't such a long layover, the Hokies win. There were a little rusty. Yet another reason why I don't really like the bowl season compared to a playoff system. There is so much time between games, its hard to stay crisp. With a playoff, you play right away and get to stay in the swing of a regular routine. When we kick off Monday for the "national title game", it will have 51 days since Ohio State last played a game.
  10. Virginia Tech is still the better team, just made too many mistakes last night. 17 points as a direct result from turnovers (one pick six) and a blocked field goal attempt from inside 40 yards. That's 20 points and they still only lost by a field goal. V-Tech didn't have Ore in the first quarter and got away from what they do best, run the football. Glennon tried to force way too many throws and made bad decision when it was 17-14 (his third pick). He had one on one on the outside and instead, tried to force between the safety and linebacker (that pick killed the whole game for them). If they played 10 times, V-Tech wins at leat 7. Much better athletes all around, just a poor performance by the Hokies.
  11. Thank goodness. The general consensus was that Mendoza needed to go. I understand that it must have been very difficult for Coach Dodge to make this decision, but it is one that will make the Mean Green Nation feel much better going forward. Also, I heard on ESPN radio yesterday that Neuheisal is going to keep UCLA's old DC. I wonder if DeLoach is going to be staying put.
  12. Between Sports Center's just now, ESPN reports that its either Jones of Martz to SMU. Also said that Jamaal Charles is heading to the NFL.
  13. Even Mel Kiper on ESPN radio said teams like Alabama and Colorado shouldn't be playing in bowl games and that Troy should have gotten the chance. Troy beat the hell of OK State, who ended up 6-6, and got the nod over Troy. Hand job! Also, why the hell did Mizzou get jobbed so bad too. They beat both Illinois and Kansas, yet they both get BCS bid. Lame. And how about Stoops' terrible coaching last night. Throwing it into the endzone to get picked on 3rd and goal from the 18? Onside kick when you just got the game back to one score (and giving the WV offense the ball on your side of the field)? Continuing to blitz Pat White so you have no second level to make a tackle?
  14. But look how the big schools have been playing since they've had some time off to rest and get healthy. Texas looked damn good vs. ASU, UGA dominated Hawaii, USC kicked the sh!t out of Illinois, etc. Name one non-BCS conference school that could beat either LSU, USC, OU, or UGA, and I will agree with you on letting the "little-guy" in. And the little guy still has a chance to get an at-large bid, just not an automatic bid. UCF lost to Miss. State, who went 7-5 from the SEC. And you think they can hang with USC or Georgia? You gotta be kidding me.
  15. And we lost to OU 79-10. Degrees of separation don't work in football, that's why you play the game. And why we need a playoff format for that matter.
  16. I think you're looking at too many teams with 16. FAU, UCF, BYU, etc don't have a prayer to beat an LSU, USC, or Georgia. That's why, with the way I've proposed it, that you get two (or three, depending on which system) at large bids. If the Boise State's of the world can convince voters they deserve a shot, they will get one. Plus, I think with the at-large situations, voters would tend to give the little guys a shot and up their voting for the "cinderalla" team.
  17. OK, I've put quite a bit of thought into this and if I had my way, this is how things would work in college football. The first idea will never work becuase there is too much conference re-aligning and too much movement of money for it to work but remember, this is my dream world. It would consist of an eight team playoff system. There is already 3 conferences that currently have a championship game (Big 12, ACC, SEC). This is where the rest gets tricky. The Big 10 actually has 11 teams, so you would need just one more team to get them a championship game. I would prefer Notre Dame but like I said, this will never happen do to money. If Notre Dame doesn't go, you find someone else (ie Cincy, Pitt, etc). Now to the Pac 10 where you could add Boise State and either Hawaii or Fresno State to give them 12 teams and a conference championship game. The Pac-10 would never go for this b/c they already are against a playoff system, but still just a dream world. You would now have 5 conferences with 12 teams and a conference championship game. The winners of each of these conferences gets an automatic bid (apologies to the Big East but they aren't as good as the rest of these conferences). You would still have a ranking system in order to determine the remaining 3 teams. The way it would work is to take the next three highest ranked teams that didn't win one of those conferences. To determine who is 1, 2, 3, etc., you use the ranking system. Now to something more practical, you leave everything the way is now, except a playoff. The winners of each current BCS conference (ACC, Big 12, Big East, SEC, Big 10, Pac 10) get automatic bids and you would take the next two highest ranked teams that didn't win their conference. It would look something like this. (1) Ohio State (auto) (2) LSU (auto) (3) V-Tech (auto) (4) Oklahoma (auto) (5) Georgia (at-large) (6) Missouri (at-large) (7) USC (auto) (8) West Virginia (auto) Give some thoughts and feedback on what you think.
  18. http://yahoosports.teamfanshop.com/NCAA_Un...product-rotator Check out the helmet on here. Going old school with it. Its been three years since we've changed so Yahoo needs to upgrade the new shells. Also, I remeber sending some emails to get Yahoo to get them update our logo as well.
  19. FYI, officials admit to blown call on goal line fumble. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls07/news/story?id=3165857 "Officials acknowledge late play should have been touchback ESPN.com news services Updated: December 22, 2007, 1:24 PM ET The officiating crew from the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl has acknowledged an error in a fourth-quarter call that affected Navy's chances to beat Utah. The crew and replay official, all from the Mid-American Conference, issued a statement after the game that a fourth-quarter play at the goal line should have been ruled a touchback and Navy ball at the 20-yard-line, rather than Utah ball at the 1-yard-line. After turning the ball over on downs, Utah scored on its next possession to go ahead 35-25 and held off Navy's late comeback to defeat the Midshipmen, 35-32, on Thursday night. On third and goal from the 4-yard line, Utah wide receiver Jereme Brooks caught a pass from Brian Johnson. As he extended the ball toward the goal line, he was hit by Navy cornerback Ketric Buffin. The ball fell forward and hit the pylon. Initially, the referee ruled that the ball belonged to Utah at the 1-yard line. Navy called for a review, but the review official confirmed the call on the field. After the game, the crew admitted it was the wrong call. "The ball was fumbled forward and hit the pylon. The pylon is out of bounds and also in the end zone," read an official statement from the officiating crew, citing Rule 8, Section 6, Article 1, Item 1 in the NCAA college football rule book. "There was a mistake made. It should have been ruled a touchback and the ball should have been placed at the 20-yard line." Navy took over on downs, but then gave the ball back to Utah on downs, and the Utes scored on a one-yard run by Darrell Mack on for a 35-25 lead with 1:27 to play. Navy scored on the ensuing possession and recovered an onside kick, but the Middies' drive for a tying or winning score was ended by an interception."
  20. Not to mention the Belt had two huge wins this season in Troy over OK State and LA-Monroe over Alabama. These are wins not only over BCS conference schools, but bowl teams from those conferences. Granted OSU and Bama had "down" years but still impressive. Troy has really started something solid with their program and I thought I heard FAU is only losing one starter. With our recruiting class, the Belt looks to continue to gain strenght over the years. Great year for the Sun Belt Conference.
  21. This is the same that I've heard in the past too. Whatever the problem is, it needs to get fixed.
  22. Utah finally decided to throw the football. What a concept versus the 119th ranked pass efficiency defense.
  23. I understand the business piece, but at least talk man to man with guy who is cutting your checks. Blank put a lot of faith in him and this is what he gets in return. I think buy out options should work the other way around. Coaches that don't honor their commitments should have to pay the penalty, not the owners. But who am I to say?
  24. What a scumbag. He called by phone to resign and is already on his way to Arkansas to be there for the press conference. He doesn't even have the decency to tell Arthur Blank to his face that he is moving on. No respect for someone paying millions of dollars.
  25. 17,734 a game....... not bad considering what the turn out was vs. Western Kentucky. We need to keep scheduling more games like Navy. I believe Air Force and K-State are coming to Denton in the next few years. Does anyone remember when they come to town?
