  1. I still think its better than years past. 2002 we had Nicholls State and South Florida (who was an independent at the time). 2003 we had Baylor, which was a good draw. 2004 it was FAU, who was not in the Sun Belt yet.
  2. Sorry to add so much flame to the fire of the Meager supporters out there. A couple of things. I was in no way trying to bash Meager. I understand that he has worked hard to become the best QB he can. I was just saying the program needs to move forward and let Vizza continue to develop, which is obviously the decision Dodge has made. Otherwise, Meager would have continued to start. Secondly, I do care if the kid throws a few INT's. I know kids make mistakes, but its the QB's job to take care of the football. I also understand Vizza threw quite a bit of picks but he was also a true freshman and still obviously developing. Vizza also set an NCAA freshman record for 8 TD's in a game (7 in the first half)! Let the kid see the field as much as possible so by the time he's a junior and senior, he can dominate. Lastly, if I do recall correctly, Scott Hall, one of the best QB's in school history, played under the Flanigan regime. Don't blame Meager's first two season on him. If you want to use that deductive reasoning, then we should have went 2-10 every year with Flanigan and Dickey holding the reigns.
  3. You bring up a good point in the fact Dodge got the early jump on Jones. Jones, like Dodge last year, will have a hard time getting a good class together do to lack of time. Dodge has put together a good class regardless of the 2-10 season. Things can only get better from here on out.
  4. Vizza at QB and Riley at WR. Vizza is solid and I think this is the optimal strategy given the personel. Either that or we have one hell of a QB battle. Oh, and Meager is done. Hopefully he never sees the field again.
  5. Not true. While Rodriguez runs the spread, its much different from what Dodge is doing. Rodriguez puts much more emphasis on the running game and using the QB as threat with his legs, not arm.
  6. Speaking of threesomes, doesn't UTEP, New Mexico, and New Mexico State have a thing going on? I think they have some kind of tri-game round robin thing with a trophy????? Anyone know for sure?
  7. From my other post: At the end of the day, we can only worry about us. We can't worry about what everyone else is doing. While it might hurt a bit when recruiting, this could potentially help UNT in the long run. If we continue to play each other each year, it will only deepen the rivalry and give it more attention. I heard an interview from a USC player once (maybe Leinhart), but he said he was rooting for UCLA to win every game except against them. The reason? He wants it to be the best rivalry in college football. While we would never rival USC/UCLA or UT/A&M, its good pub if both programs are on the rise. I think Todd Dodge will continue to recruit great players and bring the program back to respectability, its just a matter of time. I don't know Jones' background but one thing Dodge has going for him is his long lasting presence in football in the state of Texas. He played at UT, and has much respect from old alumni there, and has coached for a long time in the state. He knows many high school coaches and can trust their judgement when it comes to player evaluations. Basically put, he is well connected where it matters most, the high school coaches. This is where the players all come from and Dodge is well neteworked at that level. From my knowledge, the same can't be said about June Jones.

  9. The question was intended to be both sarcastic and unfortunately true. I recall Dickey having recruits in after the bowl games were over, all the way up to the last weekend before signing day. Call me crazy, but I think that's how Dickey rolled.
  10. I had done the same thing and got a that same email, yet nothing was changed. However, I didn't get the athletic department involved. Hopefully they get the memo this go around.
  11. I would define that as the closest game of the BCS series. It was actually pretty mundane to watch. I enjoyed watching the Georgia defense embarass the Hawaii offense that was suppossed to be so explosive. And LSU is always fun to watch. They fly around on defense like they play on Sundays (which most of them will). Glenn Dorsey is an absolute animal. I don't understand how someone that large can be that athletic.
  12. Isn't this when Dickey started his recruiting visits?
  13. If the retarded ass Rose Bowl committiee wouldn't have stuck to tradition, we could have seen USC and Georgia in the Rose Bowl. What a game that would have been. Also, if it were up to me, Illinios wouldn't have gotten a BCS game but Mizzou instead. I think Mizzou vs. Hawaii would have been a fun game to watch.
  14. And is that a post you should have an exclamation point at the end of? Don't get too excited, however, it is a step forward.
  15. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=Al...o&type=lgns Interesting stuff. If you read through the AccuScore, you'll notice how close the match becomes if they were to play somewhere outside the Super Dome. I think a lot of people are downplaying the home field advantage at the Super Dome.
  16. And what makes you think the O's will be badass when Ohio State is #1 total defense and LSU is #3 and both coaches are very conservative?
  17. This will be a very physical game. I think everyone is underplaying Ohio State's defense. I don't care who you're playing, these stats are sick. http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2007/Internet/r...7000000518.HTML No one gave Ohio State a chance when they beat Miami awhile back either. If it comes down to coaching, I would take Tressel over Miles anyday. I still think LSU takes it. They will be healthy and will come out like they did the first part of the season when the dominated everyone.
  18. Who really gives two hoots? Dodge's job is to run the operations of the football program, not media relations. This a PR issue, not Coach Dodge's. And last time I checked, a lot more people read the FWST rather than the DRC.
  19. Sorry, they lost in the waining moments to BC (they had that game under wraps but gave up a few late TD's within the last 2 min. and 11 seconds to lose).
  20. That was a very emotionally filled game (after what happened this offseason on that campus) and a very well coached East Carolina school that shocked everyone when they beat Boise State. The only other loss was to a fresh LSU squad. V-Tech usually plays sound defense (which they did the other night), take care of the football (which they didn't), and play great special teams (which they didn't). Just a poor performance by the Hokies. Oh, and they beat East Carolina.
  21. You just have to think about it. What level does Southern Miss expect to get to? Do they expect to go undefeated and make to a BCS bowl, like Boise or Hawaii? That takes a magical season, once in a lifetime type of deal. As with Baylor, did they expect to win the conference every other year and compete for a national title? Some people really hate the this cliche, but it is what it is. Baylor will never be UT or A&M but they should be able compete every so often, when the time is right, for a conference championship. They should be able to keep the score close every year and at least compete with the big dawgs, which is how they did under Teaff. Now they can't even stay within three touchdowns of UT. I think USM might look back sometime later and realize they made a huge mistake. Only time will tell though. As for us, I think we will look back and realize how good of a job DD did here. DD was just never able to take it the next step as far beating teams we weren't supposed and getting some OOC wins. No doubt that the program was slipping and we needed a change. I think we'll be A-OK with Dodge and Co. It will just take some time to clean the system.
  22. Sounded like the administration at USM wanted change and wanted to in a different direction, something I don't quite get either. Baylor did the same thing with Teaff and look where that got them. Sometimes its best for a program to except what they are and be happy with winning and going to a bowl game every year.
  23. "Prior to coming to Westwood, DeLoach served as defensive coordinator for three years at the University of North Texas and was the secondary coach for five seasons. During the 2002 regular season, the Mean Green of North Texas led the Sun Belt Conference in total defense, rushing defense, passing defense and scoring defense. Nationally, North Texas was third in scoring defense (14.8 points), ninth in total defense (290.6 yards), 12th in passing defense (171.7) and 26th in rushing defense (118.9). The Mean Green allowed over 310 yards total offense just three times all year. In its 24-19 victory over Conference USA champion Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl, North Texas allowed just 309 yards of offense and intercepted five passes. In addition, six North Texas defenders were selected first-team All-Sun Belt Conference that season, including defensive backs Don McGee and Craig Jones. In his five years as the secondary coach, six different defensive backs earned first team all-conference. In 2001, Jonas Buckles earned first-team all-conference honors after ranking fifth nationally and first in the Sun Belt Conference in interceptions. He was a second-team all-league pick in 2002. Under DeLoach's direction, the Mean Green ranked at or near the top of the conference in several defensive categories each year. In 2001, the Mean Green defense led the Sun Belt in rushing defense, scoring defense and total defense. " Enough said, bring back DeLoach!
  24. I'm happy with either. Either one is better than Mendoza. At least MacDuff has experience at the highest level as well as the D-1 level.
