  1. I was just watching the Miami / GTech game and noticed some recruiting info on the bottom line. Looks like Florida International is getting some solid commits. I don't know what star these guys are but they must be pretty good. QB Jake Medlock commits to FIU over Miami(FL), Arkansas, Virginia, and Florida Atlantic. Defensive back Mac Brown commits to FIU over Ole Miss and Indiana. It also mentions a gaurd named Stanly St. Jean commiting to FIU. Good to see the Sun Belt continuing to get some good players in the league. The Belt has come a long way in a short period of time.
  2. lost to New Hampshire, 23-16 and only put up 127 total yards of offense. Not to downplay our first win but does this diminish our win against Ball State a little bit? http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=292552050
  3. 1. What a difference the special team makes. We did a 100% better job on covering kick offs and punts and also did a good job on returns (mainly not turning the ball over on kicks). 2. Our best defense is our offense. Time of possession: UNT - 37:26 / Ball State - 22:34. That's huge. If we can continue to run the football like we did tonight, we could have a very successful season.
  4. I know everyone is focused on the game right now but Cobbs has 5 carries for 39 yards and a TD towards the end of the third quarter. He also has 3catches for 23 yards.
  5. Circa 2008 right there............
  6. This is where football games are won...... fourth quarter baby!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I'M GONNA ORDER A LEOPARD PRINT SNUGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! On another note. We should have gone for it on both long field goal tries. Both were fourth and short and Knott's knott hot on long field goals.
  8. Here is an article in the Killeen Daily Herald. The picture online is missing the UNT eagle logo backdrop which is in the paper. It looks really cool in the paper. Anyway, just wanted to share.
  9. Looks like the Cowboys are taking a hard look at another Troy product. DMN Cowboys Blog
  10. I just read that he held two hour practices....................... on game day. I just don't have words to explain what little sense that makes.
  11. I have a good feeling about this game tonight. We had these clowns beat at their place until we folded late. JJ won't let it happen twice. UNT 81 WKU 76
  12. Some inside sources say he might better fit as an outside linebacker or a stand up end type of player. He can run and is very quick. This is a good pick up by Dodge. The question will be, do you beef him up to play a true defensive end or do you keep him lean to play outside linebacker?
  13. http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.ph...mp;#entry402106 Another thing I would love to see, that is if the offensive line does not improve, is some more half roles behind the tackles and full roll outs. The half role buys the QB some time and makes it much harder for defenses to blitz from the back side. Also, if they blitz from the front side, everything is right in front of the QB and he can react much faster via hot route or running. The full role out ties up an additional defender to account for the QB which does one of two things. A, the defender plays up to the QB and frees up a WR or B, gives the QB time to run to pick up a short gain (possibly big gain). I really like the idea of the double option with somone running the "shovel" route inside with back swinging behind. There could be a lot of "trickeration" off of that as well.
  14. I like the beef we've gotten up front so far but I would like to see some more added in the next few weeks. Great size at the DT position that will help fill that void and it sounds like we have two solid offensive linemen as well. I just feel like we need as much depth as possible up front.
  15. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of this years recruiting class? Or is there a list posted somewhere elese? Thanks.
  16. I know its kind of cliche but I was thinking about some things I would like to see in the offense next year. What if we used Riley Dodge at QB for the wildcat offense. I just think with his speed and athletic ability, it would be a nice wrinkle in the offense. Most of all, it would help us run the ball more/better which in turn would help keep our defense on the sidelines. And lets be honest, the longer our offense is on the field, the better chance we have at winning.
  17. What ever happened to the days of UNT coaches getting taken away by big schools? Freddie Kitchens to Mississippi State and then to the NFL. Eric Wolford to Arizona and now at Illinois. DeLoach to UCLA (now back at UNT). Any other that you can think of? Give Dickey credit, he could put together a coaching staff.
  18. This is by far the biggest BS I have ever seen in college football. The question comes down to who should be ranked higher, Texas or Oklahoma? No one is debating whether Texas Tech should be in the mix. They have proven they don't deserve to be in the conversation (barely beat Baylor and Nebraska + very weak schedule). So who should be ranked higher, UT or OU? I thought they had settled this on the field of play in Dallas a few months ago, but I guess not. Mack Brown and the Horns have every right to royally pissed off. There is no better time than now to argue for a playoff.
  19. No doubt about it, Necessary Roughness wins the cake. If only our kicker was as hot...................
  20. And Yahoo! sports had this to say about him coming into this week. "RB Patrick Cobbs is one of offensive coordinator Dan Henning's favorite players, and despite an already-crowded backfield with star running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, Henning will continue to find ways to get Cobbs some touches. He has 13 catches for 240 yards with two touchdowns." The guy works his @$$ off and just keeps getting better.
  21. Not sure if this has been posted yet but here it is. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...p&type=lgns
  22. I was just discussing with a friend the other day how I was excited about the new stadium and how I think I will improve the university as a whole (not just athletics). He said it was a huge waste of money and we should look to spend that money elsewhere. I politely disagreed. But then I got to thinking about how far this program has fallen since the 2002 season. If you look back on the '02 season, you'll see how close North Texas Football was to competing on a national stage. Let's start with the game at Texas. Outside of our special teams allowing Nathan Vasher to kill us on the point returns, we did an excellent job. We held UT to 214 total yards of offense, Benson only had 49 yards rushing on 18 carries, and we sacked Simms 8 times. The only reason they scored so much was b/c they had such a short field in the first half. Then look at the game vs. TCU, who went 10-2 that year. We held them to 176 yards total offense. Also, Marshall dropped the fade route in the endzone right before the half that if my memory doesn't mistake me, would have given us the lead going into halftime. Then there was the game at Arizona where we out gained the 'Cats by over 100 yards and got jobbed on the goal line call on 4th and goal that would have won the game. Then there was the game vs. South Florida where we turned the ball over 4 or 5 times and we were still within a touchdown. All 4 of those games were vs. top-notch teams and look where those teams have gone since then. Arizona is now competing every week in the PAC-10, South Florida is now in a BCS conference and competing very well, and TCU is consistently on the verge of being a BCS buster, and Texas is well, Texas. http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2002/Internet/r...2000000497.HTML I guess what I am trying to understand is how did we get from point A, where we could compete on a national level, to point B, where we are literally the worst team in the nation? Please post your thoughts on how you think we got here. My personal opinion is that the Dickey regime started taking some chances on some questionable characters that never matured through the program. Either they didn't make it on the field due to grades or other off the field issues and it had a spiral effect. At a school like North Texas, where we lack depth, we don't have a whole lot of room for mistakes. I also believe we are lacking some leadership, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
  23. Sounds like the positive tests were a result of recreational drug use. Just to ask, how many of you smoked pot when you were in college?
  24. Not sure if this has been posted or not but I was just watching the pre-game on Monday Night Football. Berman just got on Spencer for catching a punt that was virtually stopped on the one and rolling into the end zone for a touchback. Someone please post a video if you can find one.
