  1. No. No to the WAC. The SBC should go after La. Tech and NMSU and kill the WAC off, which would increase the SBC's BCS revenue share. It would also slam the door on TSU-SM and UTSA's FBS dreams.
  2. I've been attending games at Fouts since my freshman year in '88. Since I graduated in '92 I have had season tickets on the west/alumni side and have not once seen a game since then from the student/east side. While it may sound silly or sentimental, I'd like to walk over at the start of the 2nd half to the student side. I just think for me it would be appropriate to be on that side as the clock winds down to zero in the 4th, sitting from the vantage point of of where it all started for me. Hopefully I'll be able to do it without any trouble from the "yellow shirt patrol"!
  3. This was one of the best games I've witnessed at the Pit - ever, and I've been going to games since I was a teenager in the 80's. Loved it!!!!! From the music fraternity singing the anthem so well, to the banners being hung, our awesome drum line at the half, the incredible student turnout and support, and a win over a Big-12 team, in freaking OT. It was fantastic! What is also good, is seeing the two friends I came with that are Tech grads going quiet in the OT period, knowing they were about to lose. They've ribbed me over the years for being a UNT grad and fan and it was NICE to return the favor!
  4. After the game tonight we went to Texas Roadhouse in Denton to grab something to eat, and after having been there for a while Coach Canales and his family came into the restaurant. He went by every table of people wearing Mean Green gear, including ours, to stop by and say hello and express his appreciation of their support and talk about how excited he was about the team and how hard they have been working. Very nice guy and his enthusiasm and energy for the program is contagious. Even after the game he still seemed wound up, positive, full of energy and wanted to engage in conversation with fans.
  5. And it chaps me even more because I don't believe the athletics fee at other universities in the state are subject to a sunset provision of any kind. Only ours is!
  6. You're kidding! Is that guy still around trolling University Drive!? He was doing that when I was in high school at DHS. And that was........ahem...a long while back.
  7. If Leach is back in coaching next season, it's far more likely that he'd end up in Boulder.
  8. Not really interested in debating this or anything, but the link you provided to UNT's standards state "Applicants shall be guaranteed admission" - and then the requirements in my original post are stated. So we say "guaranteed" whereas Tech states "Assured" - seems like the same difference to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Additionally, the standards for Tech are new as of last Fall, and previously were much more in line with ours which is why the historical average SAT scores at both schools sit at 1120 each. But with their new standards, they'll pull away from us. Lastly, not sure where you're getting that Tech accepts 92% as it's been reported that their acceptance rate has been trending at 68%. US News
  9. Our admission standards are now no where near Tech's. Between 11% and 25% class placement we require a 950 SAT compared to 1140 at Tech. 2nd quartile 1050 at NT vs. 1230 at Tech, and 1180 vs. 1270 at Tech for 3rd quartile. We're also well below UTD's standards, and currently just slightly higher than UTA and Texas State, and well ahead of UTEP and UTSA. We're also slighly higher than UH, but they are raising their standards in 2012 and again in 2014 that will make their requirements higher than ours. I'm in the camp that we need to raise our standards accordingly while keeping an eye on tuition revenue (we need to show steady to increasing streams due to bond covenants) as well as in consideration of our tier one efforts.
  10. I also like the classic effect of having someone's name on the stadium and having it named "Field" as opposed to "Stadium". Odus Mitchell Field is good. So is Walt Parker Field. But what might be really nice is H. Ross Perot Field. Have we approached him for support? I believe we did give him an honorary doctorate at one point in the past, and he funded at least in part our 100 year celebration? Of course I'm dreaming bringing that up, but it would seem to be fitting that he have a major public structure in the area named for him (there may be others), and it would be nice for us if he wished to contribute to have it. Naming it for a wealthy, local benefactor and/or alum would be awesome if there was one out there..............
  11. No doubt in my mind after reading through this guy's crap on the SBC BBS board that this is our old wing-nut "I hate UNT" friend CHECK FACTS. Ignore him. His math is also totally wrong but I don't have desire to debate with someone who hates North Texas athletics and has some serious loose screws. Responding to this nut will only spur him on.
  12. Agreed. On Baylorfans.com they are saying that it only makes sense that the legislature stand up for them given that getting another Texas school in is what's good for the state of Texas - so it's their JOB to lobby/push/threaten for Baylor. In actuality it makes NO sense. When it comes to what is good for the overall benefit of Texans, the legislature SHOULD BE lobbying for another state supported school. All three you've mentioned certainly have a far greater reach educationally (# of students) and economically than freaking Baylor!
  13. I know for certain I'll be attending this game with three Texas Tech grads. My hope would be that NT fans AT LEAST outnumber the Tech fans in attendance 2 to 1 or more.
  14. Anyone know what the "official/team" hotel is in OKC yet?
  15. I wonder what it would take to get our Faculty Senate to pass a resolution of no confidence in Jackson, similar to what has happened now at TWU. I wish they would...........
  16. Crap. At the half.......... MTSU 32 FAU 22
  17. Yep, Perry saw to it that the athletic fee sunsets once the facility debt is paid off. All the while nearly every, if not every other public school in the state has a dedicated athletic fee that never "goes away". He's also meddling in the affairs of universities within the state by threatening not one but two former Texas Tech regents that Tech would suffer if they didn't step down from the posts he appointed them to. Because.......they endorsed KBH for governor - and you MUST be loyal to old Rick. And there's too much meddlesome crap that he's been involved in regarding TAMU to even go into here.
  18. Strange that this post by Emmitt would get "demerits", when it's a valid question. Actually, a very important question. The Faculty Senate needs to be encouraged by all alumni who care to keep up the pressure on Jackson and the BOR to get answers to 1)why Dr. Bataille was removed 2)to provide a clear outline as to ALL immediate and future plans of the System impacting the Denton campus and 3)ensure they are involved in vetting potential replacements or raise holy hell. Who knows what else might be coming down the pike given the stealth relocation of the System Admin. to Dallas, the last minute amendment that ceded the law school UNT-Denton had been planning since 1980 to UNT-Dallas (governance is the main issue, NOT the location downtown), and the centralization of shared services (I.T. & H.R.) with little to no input from the Denton campus community? Speculation and conspiracy theories, regardless who it annoys, is actually healthy right now. The campus community deserves answers, and the explanations for all the events cited above provided by the Chancellor purposefully lack substance and border on ridiculous.
  19. This is B.S., but I doubt the scenario plays out. As mentioned before, the remaining games for Troy and MTSU are below: Troy @ UALR Troy @ ASU MTSU @ FIU MTSU @ FAU If we win out, one of the two will most likely drop a game. We need MTSU to lose one the most since in a two way tie they'd own the tie-breaker over us, and we'd own it over Troy. We need to love us some F_U this week!!!!
  20. Maybe, but I have a couple of questions. Perry wouldn't sign the bill unless the fee sunsets with the payoff of the stadium, right? Granted, that might take 20+ years. Secondly, can the revenue from our athletic fee, beyond what's applied to debt service on the stadium bonds be used for other line item expenses of the athletic department? Can it ONLY be used for stadium/facilites debt service?
  21. One of the best Python lines ever.............
  22. Wrong. Troy is 3 tier in US News in the Master's category. Completely different set of schools and rankings. UNT is in fact tier 4, but in the National University category. Troy doesn't rate as "National" therefore to hold their 3 tier ranking to UNT's 4 tier is an apples and oranges comparison.
