  1. I too think the uni's look good, but I still notice our "shades of green identity crisis" begun last year still seems to be in full swing. We have what I call the new "Gen Y" or "toothpaste" green in the stands mostly worn by the students, while the team still seems to sport the darker green (which I prefer). The band is in lighter green but not same as the Gen Y green, and the cheerleaders are still wearing the darker green, etc., etc. Looks like something needs to be worked out as it keeps UNT looking like it's still trying to find itself after 116 years. But hey, we beat SMU - and I'm happy as all get out today!
  2. The body is 36. The mind is 11 (I still laugh at my own farts).
  3. When I follow this link and the video starts to play it's all screwed up and I can't really see anything. Anyone have a thought as to why? I'd like to see it.
  4. Give me a freakin' break. If he's that big of a poon we don't need him as a coach.
  5. 0-5 OOC 4-3 SBC Get ready to be pi$$ed on September 9th.
  6. The teeth have pretty much been knocked out of what was once going to be a pretty stringent set of rules regarding attendance. I can't remember all of the specifics, but it's something like the following: If a team misses 15K in ACTUAL or PAID attendance in any given season, then they have ten years going forward to average 15K or higher in any one of those years to start with a clean slate. Regardless of whether or not that's exactly how it works, attendance really isn't much of an issue anymore.
  7. Southern Miss is another good program to emulate.
  8. I think we'd be thrilled, with over 4000 four year universities and colleges across the country.
  9. Would it really cost that much more to build a brick veneer around the back and sides of those seats? Would it have cost that much more to build a press box not made of barn/sheet metal? That's the problem with this thing. Whatever the costs of those extras, this university should have been able to raise it. If we can't - we have no business................doing anything.
  10. OK - did we really have the opportunity to have BYU come to Fouts in 2007, and turned it down, or is that message board B.S.? If we did turn them down - then WTF!? Why? I don't buy the reason that it was more money for us to do so. Even if that is the case, it doesn't make any sense when you consider that I now hear we're adding a I-AA to the home schedule next year. How much are we going to make off of that when we draw 10K for it? How does that help us build a fan base for the future, garner media attention, etc.? It won't help like a home game against BYU would. I also don't buy that the reason was because we already had our OOC schedule for 2007 set. This is for the 12th game that we may add. Did we really have a 12 game, and one against an OOC opponent scheduled for 2007? Who? If it was to be yet another I-AA, then we should've dumped them for BYU, the buyout would've been worth it. As for the kind of crowd we'd have for BYU - 25K or more. Guaranteed.
  11. Mark Witte is married to the daughter of close friends of my parents. He's done pretty well working for Edward D. Jones for a long time. Doubt he'd be interested.
  12. I don't care for the new green at all. I call it "toothpaste green." It may have appeal to the students because it's kind of a Gen Y color - but it doesn't appeal to my older, more conservative taste. The hunter green had been in our history before, it's classic, and masculine. I was routinely complimented on my Mean Green gear over the years, including people affiliated with Big 12 schools who thought our colors were great. Now you look in the stands at games and see all the various shades of green where once again we go a changin', and looking like we still don't know who the hell we are. Viva Hunter Green!
  13. Father graduated with a BBA (or whatever they called it then) in '55 Older brother graduated with a BBA in '84, MBA in '88 Older sister graduated with a BBA in '89 I graduated with a BBA in '92, MBA in '96 I grew up in Denton and my parents had my brother, sister, and me all thinking that the natural progression was Ginnings Elementary, Strickland Junior High, Denton High, then North Texas. Like ducks we all three followed suit!
  14. I'll be there with a buddy of mine and hopefully my dad as well (if his wife let's 'em). Hopefully we'll see the largest crowd at the Pit since Indiana came to town a while back.
  15. I'm pumped about the potential attendance Saturday. I had to work late tonight and was sick that I missed that large of a crowd. I've made nine of the home games so far (including the ACU exhibition) and have been disappointed by the attendance so far this season, especially when we've got a great team that is exciting to watch. Having the schedule front loaded with home games, many of which came during the student holiday break was the primary factor there - NOT lack of an entertaining product or some fault of the athletics department. Everyone needs to make their best effort in this last Saturday home game to get to the Pit. South Alabama is talented and it should be a hell of a game. I'll be bringing a buddy of mine and hopefully my dad as well. GO MEAN GREEN!
  16. Lifer, please explain your confidence in Darrell Dickey's ability to coach us to a victory over an SMU team that competes against superior competition, and finished 2005 on a hot streak. SMU lost AT Tulsa 13 to 20. We lost AT home to Tulsa 54 to 2. Go ahead. Please instill me with your confidence!
  17. If you were hurting after the Tulsa game, just get ready to witness a major ass whipping at the hands of SMU in OUR house. Prepare yourselves. It's gonna happen.
  18. I've attended a ton of NT basketball games over the last 15 years. What we have in the stands are in fact very few students, plus some Denton people. And thank God for the local Denton folks who do show up, because there wouldn't be 300 there on average if not for them. I see so many of the same faces every time I go to a basketball game. What bugs the hell out of me, is that I see very few of the people I routinely see at the football games at the Super Pit. I understand that most of those who support NT athletics, and maybe the majority of the people on this board, are primarily interested in football. It's just a huge shame that that's the case. I say that because if we could get even 15% of our 2005 average football attendance figure of 18K+ to come to games at the Super Pit; we might be able to average over 4000 per game in basketball in total with that additional support. It just shouldn't really be that hard for fans to have a presence in that place! The fact that we can't average even 4000 a game is simply rediculous.
  19. People do make unrestricted gifts to UNT, the school strongly encourages it - but they are usually not in the millions of dollars. When I worked for the school more often than not those unrestricted gifts were directed to the College of Music, or to general scholarships.
  20. The biggest concerns to me in that article are the mentioning of having a law school and pharmacy school at UNT-Dallas. No way those divisions, if they ever come to fruition, should be at the Dallas campus. I was disappointed when I first heard that our initial attempt at establishing a law school would have it located in downtown Dallas in the old municipal building instead of Denton. But at least that idea still had it connected to UNT-Denton. Alumni shouldn't allow the Dallas campus to get a law school and pharmacy program over UNT Denton - but of course, our thoughts probably wouldn't be taken into consideration.
  21. I plan on trying to score some Valium prior to the NT vs. SMU game next September. That'll be the only way I'll be able to make it through the game because SMU will beat us by 4 to 5 touchdowns in OUR house. I have NO doubt in my mind.
  22. See, to make my earlier point - I misspelled the word "tier!" Sorry.
  23. Well, the academics (college presidents) might wish to invite La Tech, which just recently jumped into US News' 3rd teir of rankings, rather than one that continues to languish in the 4th teir with the likes of A&M-Commerce.
  24. Not a concern. We won't win conference. ULM and ASU will be losses. Possibly even FAU.
