  1. I too have no clue why the SOW or some other non type logo will not be used on the helmets. Having "North Texas" puts us in a sub par category in the NCAA as far as branding. Makes no sense. I confirmed this past weekend with a UNT athletic official the SOW will not be on the helmet. RV needs to reconsider or leave it up to people who know about branding. Listen to the people who potentially will be buying tickets RV. -A Frustrated MGE1
  2. Indeed. I agree as well...I was more interested in the source of the design. Being NT has one of the best design schools in the country, if it was our COVAD, then all the better. Good use of resources. MGE1
  3. I agree....it really a waste of time to listen to people spew negativity about UNT. Constructive criticism is great but negativity just to be negative helps nothing.
  4. Thanks Rick. I think the establishment of a consistent symbol for our school is key to the long term branding. People get sick and tired of talking about new uniforms etc but bottom line, it matters. It's all about presentation. Still can't figure out why they won't put the eagle in the helmet. The argument that nobody will recognize the school when seen on TV doesn't hold water. There is no need to have North Texas on the uniforms twice...It's amateurish. We can do better. I can't tell you how happy I am to see the school growing like it is now. Good times to come.
  5. Hey Gang...I wanted to get some clarification on our current logo design. I have heard some people making fun that we had the same logo design as the Prosper Eagles. From what I understand, a Professor in our esteemed College of Visual Arts & Design (Jack Sprague or Eric Ligon) was the person that helped design the entire art identity of the current designs. I love both the type design and screaming eagle myself. Much better than the logo of the 90's. Can anyone clarify the source of the current logo and type design? Thanks. MGE1
  6. Thank you Kram1. It's probably wise that I remain "anonymous" as to what and where I teach. As far as the other posts....all good points and observations. I have been concerned with Lee Jackson's agenda from the beginning. I was so disgusted how they treated GB on her exit. I can assure you that the "uppers" in power are closer to being defined as politicians more than anything. They clearly separate themselves from faculty in their daily roles as admins no matter where you go in academia. It's an ugly relationship sometimes. However, it can be a beautiful relationship with the right people invested in the institution. More often than not, the current admin is more concerned about what their "mark" will be and what will be said about it when they are gone. So true and so sad. Things like athletic program growth are no longer a priority. I continue to question the BOR's and of course LJ's investment in our school. LJ is smitten by having the name "Dallas" attached to UNT's name...just look at UTD and it's progress. Believe me, LJ has a clear path. Yes...positive gains but at a price. Time will tell. I liken him to Agamemnon from the Trojan War. He wants to see his name attached to his legacy. Speaking from my professional experience, it seems that once you go beyond the classroom and cross into the "Dark Side" (Star Wars Reference), that school leadership quickly steps into their own agenda leaving the important people out of the decision making process. The BOR and LJ do have the perceived power, but I assure you the students, faculty and alumni have more say so than they think. In essence, it is the faculty and staff who run the school. Period. We are in the trenches in the classroom. We hear from our "customers" every day...far more than school leadership does in an entire semester. So, does the BOR and LJ turn a blind eye in the midst of other dedicated and invested faculty and staff? You better believe it. Pride can be shown two ways. One is highly dangerous. The other is a pride our school deserves and a pride that every UNT stakeholder bleeds green for. We will get there...when the people that truly matter continue to stand up and have the courage to draw a line in the sand. I wager we have more people standing on our side of the line than the BOR's and LJ's "club". Thank you for reading. Go Mean Green and Go Stars
  7. As a Professor, I always find it helpful to listen to my students. I am there to serve them...not the other way around. I am there each day to provide them with a valuable product which of course is education. I am in the business of sales. I sell education and my college profits off of it in several ways. I like to think I improve lives. These results of a quality product are powerful....they sustain themselves. They lead to growth. If my product at some point is not up to par, my "customers" notice quickly and I see the negative results. My "fan base" declines and they become detached. My enrollment declines. Bottom line, I am very fortunate to have the students I have in each of my classes. I am appreciative and I am happy to serve them..for they are what sustains me on many levels. If they have an idea that overall helps improve my class, I listen. How does this relate to UNT football? This whole concept has me thinking about the current state of the football program and our future. Notice how I say "our" future. Unfortunately, I feel the past and current UNT admin have missed this entire concept in some areas completely. As a Alumnus of my beloved UNT, I have always felt the administration ignored some great ideas the student body conceived in a variety of campus projects and programs. Due to the current state of our program, I believe it is critical at this point that we are listened to. They run the show, we follow right? Wrong...the students and alumnus run the show. We are what sustains them. We buy their product. We help grow their product. We contribute and they are supposed to listen. It's a form of assessment for them etc etc. Look at the alumni program for LSU....wow. Truly magical sustainable pipeline of contribution. How do I know, well...I am an indoctrinated LSU fan...my wife and her entire family all went to LSU. I have learned so much from them. So when they have their Purple and Gold flying and even though UNT football is tattered, torn and frayed, I wear my Mean Green Garb...with pride. They respect my loyalty even though we suck and they hope I can experience what is the norm for them each week....even when LSU loses. How do we go about sending our message to UNT that we want to help? Well...I'm not talking about blind, angry rants about this or that..I'm talking about sincere solutions and ideas to help grow the program into a symbol of sustainable pride and growth. We get more involved. The alumni right now is so deeply divided which of course is a problem. Some are loyal and some are bitter. Even though I do not agree with some of the admins decisions over the years, I am appreciative of their improvements (The Stadium, Basketball, Golf etc.) to the athletic program as a whole. However, it's all about marketing to your customers. There is absolutely no reason why UNT can't be a powerhouse in the area of athletics. Yes...it comes down to funding, but solutions can be found. From small to large, I feel some of our problems can be solved by growing the alumni program and leadership making better decisions about the details. Ideas?...well....simple decisions like taking the redundant name "North Texas" off the helmet (when it's on the jersey) and replacing with the attacking Eagle would be a small yet great detail. Choosing a less puke laden shade of green for the jerseys, better concessions, more in game traditions, not playing the screeching Eagle three times where it sounds corny (one time will do)etc...I can go on and on...we have all read the posts. We know what we all want. I still care about growing this program out of the laughing stock that it has earned on the shoulders of the current leadership at UNT. I will not pretend to have all of the answers to solve our woes because I don't. My goal to is for our alumni to be heard by those who make the decisions. UNT admin....serve your customers. Listen and you will be rewarded. It's that simple. Have a great end to your week and as always. GO MEAN GREEN!! and Go STARS!! Best, MeanGreenEagle1
  8. I'm sure this has been covered before, but I am tired of 105.3 The Fan bad mouthing the Mean Green. They even referred to UNT at North Texas State last week. Nice huh? Shows their really up to date on things. I would like to see our radio shows support all the local D/FW teams. Cowboys, Stars, Rangers, FC Dallas, Mavs etc, but no. It is clearly a Cowboy station which is great, but last week they were bashing UNT and how the football program should be dropped. This morning, they mentioned all the local college team's scores except UNT even after our great win over FAU. I've heard their station bash UNT backwards and forwards since their format change and I've had enough. I will go back to XM or The Ticket. At least I won't have to listen to them trash our school. And if they're not bashing UNT, they bash the STARS. I love my college football and my hockey...it would be nice to see our radio hosts support their local teams. Am I asking too much?
  9. Overreact? Don't think so. RV has indeed made some good decisions leading to significant contributions in athletics...undoubtedly the most significant in probably 20 years. It's like a high school principal overlooking a struggling school on the verge of AYP. It's a delicate scenario. You can be the greatest Principal from a leadership standpoint but quickly be drawn into a managerial role if you fail to inspire your teachers (coaches/players). Inspiration comes from leadership which in turn brings results even in the most trying times. NT must have leaders with proven records in athletics from top tier schools....not some Dominos Pizza Business man who walks dorms and sells the notion of why a stadium is a good idea (I know he's done more...I know the history, I'm just making an example). Students should not have to be "sold" on the idea..which is how they approached the argument. Inspiration is how small football programs have been built into greatness....where you see fans welcoming their team into the stadium and screaming their lungs out. You can't tell me our fans aren't jealous watching teams like LSU, Clemson, Alabama etc, wishing we had that. Those games are wonderful to experience and I pray that NT has that one day. I have been dedicated to UNT since the moment I stepped in campus in the 90's and Damnit...every single person who supports NT deserves better. UNT has a lot of money even with the budget shortfall in Texas education. Now that we have the stadium, recruit leaders who fit the vision. By the way...I don't think RV will go anywhere even though IMHO and it's only my opinion that his tenure is up...too many people have contributed the stadium's realization to him. You know what's sad, UNT has over 100,000 alumni in the DFW area,,they need inspiration to fill the new stadium I assure you. TD and RV aren't going to be the duo to do that. It's RV and some new celeb coach or a new crew all together.
  10. "A Clear Message Must Be Sent Starting Now" The reality of our situation is this. TD and RV must go. It's all about accountability now. There must be significant change. UNT has no choice. In order to continue the building a strong marketing campaign moving into a new stadium, a very clear and loud message must be sent to all students, faculty, fans and alumni. I love NT, but the school's leadership has developed a history of making poor decisions on many levels and the athletic program is no different. To those of you who still make excuses for our performance, wake up. We don't have time to entertain TD's and RV's rhetoric any longer. No more excuses. I demand accountability and you should too. Our players deserve so much better. Their hearts have to be breaking. I graduated in 1999, and watching NT's slow and putrid grind of defeat has been painful. 5-34 is beyond ridiculous. Bottom line, the alumni confidence has hit a very unstable level now. We are indeed an embarrassment in the DFW area and with our recent nationally broadcast games, the country is now seeing us for who we are. We are on delicate and shaky ground gentlemen. UNT has an enrollment too large to continue down this road. I pray that our boys get leadership that is at least equal to other NCAA teams. What a great underdog story this will be one day when they perform beautifully. I stress the word "will". Why? Because I believe it. But change is looking us in the face.
  11. ATTENDANCE IS BAD BECAUSE GOING TO THE GAMES IS PUNISHMENT. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME TODD DODGES RECORD AGAIN??? UNT LEADERSHIP....YOU ARE A BUNCH OF CLOWNS. I HOPE V AND DODGE ARE FIRED THIS YEAR. RILEY....YOU ARE FREE TO GO AS WELL. YOU KNOW THAT FEELING WHEN YOU TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT YOU PLAYING NCAA FOOTBALL WITH THIS RECORD/KNOWING YOUR TEAM SUCKS. THAT FEELING IS HOW US UNT FANS HAVE FELT FOR YEARS. WELCOME TO THE CLUB.
  12. PAINFUL.....YES....it's like putting splintered toothpicks under your finger nails while being on fire.
  13. And they wonder why they get NO respect in College Football. Did you guys walk under ladders, break some mirrors and spill salt all at the same time??? Todd Dodge...GET THE F OUT OF COLLEGE COACHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I am having nightmares from the Ohio game. They BLOW ITS EVERY FRIGGIN TIME........EVERY EVERY EVERY TIME. It's like they LOVE pushing the envelope and losing like this. We have a handful of players with heart...the others can't deliver. AND NOW WE HAVE TUNE INJURED. NICE . They will BLOW this season. It's what they do. Congrats guys...you handed them the win by screwing up in the first half. You look like the guys from the movie "Hangover" when they get their @ss handed to them by the naked guy in the trunk.
