  1. You would rather miss out on a shot at being P4 because it's not a "good look"? That's some insane, baby boomer, career $100k first-level manager thought right there. Insane.
  2. This is such a weird thing that keeps beining brought up. SMU will not be bleeding money. We only get $7M from AAC and you get less. We still have football teams. Media money doesn't keep our athletic department floating, nor does it keep yours. Ours is supported by donors already. Yours is less ethically funded by student fees and tax money. The situation isn't changing in the ACC. It can only go up. There is literally no downside. Being back here in 10 years is the worst outcome. So why would we not try?
  3. Yeah, and if Boise was in a better market they would have moved up too. And if Northwestern hadn't been in the B10 for decades they wouldn't be there either. So what. Do what you can to survive. Our admin woke up and took the shackles off way too late, but we might just sneak in. In 10 years we'll do what we can again.
  4. Its not "fixing" anything. Its keeping us from being flushed into FCS with the rest of MWC Sunbelt and AAC.
  5. Yeah.....so? For the next 7 years we are out the piddly AAC payout. That's easily covered in one donation. You could raise that money at UNT. It's not huge. We miss out on the ACC payout we aren't getting anyway. But we DO get the conference prestige, recruiting, and media coverage of a P4. We will play real teams people have heard of, and establish ourselves as a P4 school. That is invaluable and the media coverage alone is worth more than what we're paying. Its massive increases the profile of the school which will improve donations AND applications. More importantly the screw job with the playoff and the big split is coming very soon. We're buying our way on the last life raft. Being in a P4 when that happens is ultra critical because every who isn't is going to be totally screwed over and shut out of the playoff AND access to playing P4 teams unless you are a total guaranteed win. They are already talking about trying to force too 12 teams and no auto bids. So you have to be top 12, but you will always start the year ranked low, you won't have a chance to play anyone good, and you'll end the year outside the top 12 because you don't play anyone good. The fix is in. And the absolute worst case is we end up right back here in the AAC. So where's the downside? It's the end of the game, you're down by 1 score, and have 1 play left. Do you throw the hailmary or do you knee it out and take the loss to avoid the embarrassment of a failed hailmary?
  6. Depends on how you look at it. We're only actually LOSING the $7M/yr we get in AAC which is nothing. ACC full share payouts are about $40M/yr
  7. Its just a business deal. They need more money for their internal issues, we pay, we get what we need. Its no different than the girl at the gentlemen's club working her way through college, or when you bonus the young irrelevant guy at your company to make some quiet changes in the accounting ledger because as the owner you're too visible and will be noticed.
  8. It would not be in SMU's interest for you to be in, but you should be aware anyone on ponyfans is half looney and anyone sane is on the paid boards now
  9. This guy is still dealing with grief with this crazy wishful thinking. The conference could be created, and it's better than current AAC (dear god please put us in the West), but the money he's throwing out is insane. It wouldn't be remotely close to that per school. Look what MWC, AAC are getting and what PAC was offered with much more valuable programs included
  10. You should consider why we want out so badly and if you shouldn't have more urgency too
  11. We're saying the same thing. Of course they informally made their intentions known. This whole thing seems to really be about ND, ESPN, and the revenue sharing model. I don't know near enough to understand the why elements. ACC seems to be a backstabbing snake pit of the highest order
  12. There was not a vote. As of last night there was not enough "yes" votes (1 short) had they voted. It appears to be in the negotiation stage. Whether an additional yes vote can be arranged is TBD.
  13. I'm totally out of the loop on this ACC stuff and just watching, but I can't say 100% that the scenario you describe would absolutely still be a complete and total win for SMU that nobody would be made about vs spending the next 5 years in ACC and keeping the $7M/yr.
  14. Nobody applies u til they know they will approved. Either the tweet is BS, or "applied" means "called up an stated their interest"
  15. Da T.C.U. time Green frogs make more sense anyway Mean purple Fort Worth
  16. If I send you some NIL bucks can we name it DASMU Coliseum?
  17. You now gonna play in da TCU stadium? Isn't dat a long drive?
  18. Swaim just replicates what others say with more clickbait. He's likely riffing off the Arizona 247 publisher Scheer who says the conference is supposed to present numbers on Tuesday, and that he predicts they will not be good enough and Arizona will then leave.
  19. Further, I'm not going to put our alumni up against Stanford by any means but if I'm going to create a top alumni list for SMU, Laura Bush isn't going to be very high on it. Weird, weird take to cite the Bush family as our biggest alumni.
  20. You are analyzing expansion candidates based on the prestige of their associated presidents? This is a Message Board Genius level take. Side note, Stanford's closest president is Herbert Hoover, and while I personally think he is profoundly underrated, he's not a post-TR Rushmore candidate either, and he was a single termer.
  21. The P5 label is a media creation, but the Autonomy designation for the P5 is NCAA recognized in their bylaws and does matter.
  22. Of course it would be worth it, because it could scoop the best from AAC/MWC and leave the worst behind. There is no downside, only upside
  23. Yes, but WSU, OSU, Cal etc are worth more than Charlotte, UAB, etc. And the PAC is still an autonomy conference and there isn't a mechanism to revoke that. The leftovers can just pull the best available from MWC, AAC, etc and end up better off than with the bottom half of AAC, MWC, etc. It's not the PAC of yesteryear but it's better in both money and prestige than AACUSA.
