  1. Sorry, meant to say an operating website. The most recent story is about Mini Mac's impending recruiting visit.
  2. UNT doesn't have a rivals website so rivals is sometimes a little slow on our commits. Devante Davis and Mark Lewis had been committed for months but didn't show up on rivals until national signing day.
  3. Exactly. Coach Wintrich will get this kid in the weight room and in Victory's dining hall. Another reason he could really benefit from a redshirt year.
  4. Yeah, that's the thankless job of being a true fullback. Scott is well under 6' tall so that's why I think a position switch could be a possibility, and the fact that we are stacked at linebacker. He will be given a shot at linebacker first, I just wouldn't be surprised to see him get moved and it is something to keep an eye on at the very least.
  5. No he can't because he has already started grad school here at UNT. He can't say another school has his grad program and UNT doesn't.
  6. First of all, there is no such thing as a 5th string Left Tackle. Second, you're right about the evaluation process but it only works to a certain degree. Coaches try to simulate game like situations as best they can. One thing I've noticed about sports is that the longer a player has been on the team, the more comfortable they are in practice and the better they are able to handle the pressures of practice, much like how a 3-year starter is better able to handle the pressures of a game than a sophomore getting his first start. I don't know how DT does in practice and I'm not saying Osborn is nervous every practice, but DT is in his fourth year on campus so he is able to handle practices pretty well, presumably. But I, and most people, have no idea what he has done in practice to warrant an endless string before being pulled or what Osborn has done to be never given a chance. It sure as heck hasn't been has performance on the field over the past two years or his natural ability, because he has not improved in games, when it matters, and frankly has a slow release and a weak arm. DT seems like a great guy and pretty smart. No one is bashing him as a person or student. We just there is a chance that Osborn could do more for us if given the opportunities that DT has been given in games. We could be wrong and Osborn could be worse, as he is apparently in practice, but the risk seems worth running at this point in the season.
  7. OJ Mayo, if he can stay on the court and out of trouble, is the best shooting guard we have had since Michael Finley in 04-05. We haven't been able to really fill that hole since he left even though we won a championship. Our starting shooting guard in the 06 Finals was Adrian Griffin and it was Barea and Stevenson in 11. Collison is better than the shell of Jason Kidd we have had for the past few years. I love Kidd and will forever be grateful that he helped get us the only professional title in my life as a sports fan, but he needs to hang it up. Not really worth what he got in NY. Kaman is the best scoring center we have had in the Dirk years. He is no where near as good as Chandler overall or defensively, but he is a better scorer. Excited to see him play soon because we may not have him long. We have some decent pieces on this team, so it will be interesting to see how everybody plays together. Or we could suck and get TM. Either way the team is going to look very different again a year from now.
  8. Very interesting. Hard to see it as a typo if Y'Barbo is at center AND Feeley is at left guard. Guess we'll see, but hopefully Fort is good to go.
  9. This. The current Sun Belt is pretty comparable to the teams that will be in next year's CUSA.
  10. Well, putting things in perspective, it is most important in the long run that he was able to get his degree. Now we have to give him a shot right? Hopefully we can at least get a big lead in the South Alabama game, but as slow as we have been starting I wouldn't expect it. A lot of us, myself included, complain about DT's football playing ability but in all honesty this season has had to have been extremely tough on Osborn. Seeing the guy in front of you struggle and show no signs of improvement for 2 years while never being given the chance to show what you can do is extremely tough. I think he'll find a place next year and hopefully he'll get a shot.
  11. Since we all know about our team and all of our talented players I thought I'd give you one to watch for East Central. They have a 6'4" guard/forward in Braxton Reeves who was district MVP last year in 4-5A for North Crowley. I was surprised that he ended up there but he didn't do much until his senior year at that basketball powerhouse so I guess that's why. Anyways, he's a good player to look out for as one of their 15 newcomers.
  12. Good stuff. Will be interesting to see if this happens.
  13. Exactly. They pretty much can't help it, unless they take a knee the entire fourth quarter.
  14. Yup, I forgot about Lancaster and Schrapps. Lancaster brings some more speed to the table, which we desperately need. Hope his recovery is going well.
  15. Yeah, with Delgado (anyone know if he's good to play yet?) and Bynes leaving after this year I want to see what receivers will step up between Harris, Pleasant, Darnell Smith, and Chaz Sampson. Smith looked good on those big plays saturday, although he might have gotten away with a push off (shhhh). On a related note, looking at next year's receiving corps the question is who will claim the other two starting spots along with Chancellor. It's probably between the aforementioned players as well as Darius Terrell, Darvin Kidsy, and anyone else we bring in. We have a lot of bodies, it's just a matter of who can play and make a difference for Brock Berglund. Wait what?
  16. Has Fred Scott as a fullback. I wonder if we will try to use him there seeing that we are stacked at linebacker and we are using a fullback more and more in our offense.
  17. Don't forget that Kenny Buyers is also a redshirt freshman at db who has received some playing time.
  18. 1.The unbiased truth is a lot of the blame is on Dodge for the JUCO players he brought in. A couple other contributing reasons are players transferring (although every team suffers from this) and last years implement of the 25 rule which prohibits you from signing more than 25 players a recruiting class, which does include transfers from D-1 and JUCO believe it or not. The main reason honestly was Dodge's JUCO overload. 2. Yeah other schools have this problem to a degree, but usually are not more than 5 under the 85 allotment. Schools like Alabama utilize the grayshirt with regularity to prevent from reaching the 85 maximum. Even when coaches are over the 85 allotment after signing day they usually say "the numbers will sort themselves out by spring" as players who are buried often transfer after or during spring and what's left can be dealt with by grayshirting a few freshman. 3. It is affecting our team a little from a depth perspective, but mostly because we have such a lack of a senior class. We only have about 11 seniors on scholarship and a good amount of those came here on scholarship and only 3 (Phillips, Cantly, and Feeley) are from the 2008 class that should have provided us with more than 3 players making it from signing day through their redshirt senior seasons. You can only go as far as your seniors take you, so it will be interesting to see how we do next year with a decent senior class. 4. Because you can only sign 25 scholarship athletes per class, which will include transfers like Berglund, you can't make up the deficit in one class. It shouldn't be long now until we are caught up as long as Mac keeps emphasizing the signing of high school kids and redshirting.
  19. According to Vito he had a Louisiana Tech offer as well that is not listed on rivals, ESPN, or 247 apparently. I would expect a few more offers for him before signing day. His good senior season aside I don't think he is ready to come in and take the reigns as a true freshman, especially with Berglund licking his chops at the opportunity to beat out an un-improving Derek Thompson. There are very few quarterbacks in the country that are capable of starting as a true freshman and they usually spend the summer before their senior year competing in the elite 11 and committing to a BCS contending school. Coach Mac, along with myself, believes in heavily utilizing redshirts and quarterback is one of the positions in most need of a redshirt their first year on campus. He is looking like a great pickup with a lot of potential but he will be best served redshirting next year.
  20. Starson, the d-end I believe you are referring to, came to their campus at about 215 and with no other offers. Since then he has gained what looks like about 40 lbs and is looking like a potential NFL prospect. Not everyone turns out like this but this is one of the reasons I am ecstatic about all the players we are redshirting. Having five years at a program can do wonders for a player's development.
  21. Exactly. I would actually be surprised and disappointed if Berglund doesn't beat out DT for these reasons.
  22. Exactly! I started a thread (probably not worthy of a thread) about how all QBs have bad days throwing the ball, but players don't have bad days athletically unless they are injured. Even if Berglund comes in here and lights it up he isn't going to be top form every quarter of every game throwing the ball, but at the same time he is going to be just as athletically gifted as a game where he would be throwing lights out. Don't be scared off by Berglund's past. He isn't a bad guy and he's very committed to this football team, not to mention he loves it here. We'll see what happens but I can't see the coaches not giving him a chance, especially Chico who knows first hand how DT's lack of abilities constricts the playbook.
