  1. Haha thanks Mr. Trussell. That's what I'm going for.
  2. Huge week in the Belt will be kicked off tonight at 7 on ESPN2, very similar to last week, with two 1 loss teams in Arky State and LaLa. Just like our game will be vs MUTS this week, the game between Arky State and LaLa will put one of the preseason favorites at 2 conference losses and in need of help to win the conference, while another will go to 3-1 and put themselves right in the thick of the conference race. I have LaLa at home in this one over a down Arky State team. Should be a very interesting game. As for the rest of the conference, this is a huge week. Here are my personal predictions: Blowout of the Week: UL Monroe over South Alabama - Just too much firepower on the side of ULM and an underrated defense that has played very well of late, save for the first half against WKU last week. South Alabama had a good showing against FAU to pick up a conference win, but I just don't see their secondary keeping up with Browning and co. for too long. Upset of the Week: FIU over WKU - Somewhat a hunch, but with Medlock back under center for FIU they are a completely different team. WKU might be the best team from top to bottom in this conference, but they aren't built for a shootout which this game may become. If this game becomes a shootout in Miami the advantage tilts toward FIU. Close Games: Troy over FAU - Should be a lot closer than some think as I think FAU can slow down that Troy passing attack. FAU held Browning to 147 passing yards and probably would've held DT to less when we played them if they didn't have 8 or 9 in the box. Unlike the FIU pick, even if FAU is able to ugly this game up at home Troy still can win, just like they won an ugly game against us in Denton. Pulling for FAU, but Troy should be able to add to FAU's miserable season UNT over MUTS - How can I pick against us after our most recent half of football? I was born and lived in the Murfreesboro area until I was seven, so yo can't call this a homer pick. Okay maybe you can but if we can slow down that rushing attack and make Logan Kilgore have to beat us we should win, but Amos is a receiver we will have to keep tabs on and don't be surprised if he makes some plays. They still can run the ball without Cunningham but his absence does hurt their big play ability. I'd like to see Jim Jim get more touches on offense for us with his big play ability. They are a much better team now, but with basically the same line back for us that paved the way for 464 rushing yards against them last year I look for us to control the clock and eat up yards on the ground all day. I don't expect a blowout, because our style of play doesn't much call for that, but more of a sound victory.
  3. That's because McDermott isn't even in the top 20 of this top 100 ranking on ESPN that they're going off of (after 20 is reserved for insiders). McDermott is a heck of a College Basketball player but he doesn't translate as well to the next level as TM. McDermott is 6'7" maybe 6'8", but either way is undersized for an NBA 4, and may struggle keeping up with athletic wings that play 3 at the NBA. He is a stud player for college, but I would call him a consensus All-American before I call him a lottery pick, much less a top 10 pick.
  4. I was thinking he was referring to the LSU game, but still the K-State game was a little too far back to use as a predictor of how the rest of our season will go. That game was before the Troy game after all, and I don't think we want that game to be an indication of how our season will go. It is cool to see K-State be so successful and the fact that we played them so close is something to hang our hat on. College Football is about what have you done for me lately, and lately we just dominated a good team but if we go out and stink it up against MUTS, then the LaLa win will be soon forgotten. Once the season is over then we can reflect on our good performances, but for now we have to focus on the now and capitalizing on this chance to compete for the conference title and make a bowl. That is just my opinion.
  5. Hey! Easy, I was born in Tennessee.
  6. Yeah, I don't think it's realistic to see Harris returning punts this year, I just wanted to create a little banter. But I personally am against using one of your top two offensive playmakers on punt returns unless it is necessary, for more than just health concerns. I think a player who isn't guaranteed to get the ball on the upcoming offensive possession might be more inclined to try and make a play with the punt. This could also be a dangerous mentality though. I never returned punts so I don't know personally, but the fact is Chancellor is not helping us win the field position battle so either mentality or personnel has to change or this could come back to haunt us.
  7. That moral victory way back on September 1st is no longer in play at all when evaluating this team. If we go 4-1 and split the last two games at the end there is a good chance we make it along with ULM and WKU. Troy and LaLa are harder to predict, but I'd like to smash a huge dent Saturday in MUTS' chance to reach a bowl game.
  8. Are you sure? Teams have done this in the past, but usually they aren't barely getting six wins by the skin of their teeth. An example is the 08 Tech team with Crabtree and Harrell. They played Eastern Washington and UMass but what you said makes sense, because even with one of those not counting they were fine bowl position wise.
  9. No, it does count towards our total since FCS, formerly referred to as Division 1-AA, is still Division 1. If TSU were Division II, which some have mistakingly called them on this board, then it would not count.
  10. The truth is we haven't had very many true freshman make impacts. Busby and Davis are really the only two that have seen significant playing time while filling in at safety for Lairamie Lee. Lajaylin Smith and Jamal Marshall have played on special teams and Carlos Harris has played minimally. Coach Mac is redshirting everyone else, which is a lot. Harris has already burned his redshirt so no point in keeping him on the bench now. I really want to see what he can do with the ball in the open field, maybe give him some looks at fielding punts? Tough job for a true freshman but he is a speedy guy so he has a chance at that position.
  11. The pressure that we got in the second half from our four down lineman on passing plays was possibly my favorite thing we did well against LaLa.
  12. Hard to see us not pulling out at least two more, but it might be difficult to play like we did last week every game but you never know. We proved we have the capability. I know we have to move on with MUTS looming this week but we DOMINATED LaLa in nearly every aspect during that second half, as evidenced by the Total yardage, time of possession, and score. If we can play like we did last week with some consistency we may very well have a special team and a special season on our hands. Let's make it a reality.
  13. I also think that Coach Mac wants to be balanced. We run a lot because we have a good rushing attack. The truth is our quarterback doesn't have the ability to make throws to stretch out a defense on his own, he needs a solid run game to set up the pass but there's nothing wrong with that. Did you guys see how much room there was on the first Jimmerson screen touchdown? Chico dialed up a good one there. Also, while this opinion of mine won't be very popular I'm sticking to it, I don't think the step up from the current sun belt to next year's C-USA is gonna be all that huge talent wise. The teams that are competitive in the belt this year are capable of competing in the C-USA, including us. I am not undermining how big a deal this is and how much more the C-USA can do for us as a conference money-wise and competition-wise in all sports, but it's not like we're moving into the Big-12. If we can be in the Sun Belt title hunt for the rest of the year there is no reason we shouldn't finish ahead of teams in our division next year like Rice, UTEP, and UTSA and compete with teams like La Tech and Tulsa for the division title. I think we are capable of both and it will be interesting to see how this season turns out as we leave the Belt, hopefully on a high note.
  14. And the fact that a lot of us our college football fans, as well as UNT fans more specifically. West Virginia has been one of the most interesting stories in college football this year and what has happened these past two weeks has been pretty crazy.
  15. WKU really doesn't scare after this and watching their game with Troy. They are pretty loaded from top to bottom but they don't have a game changer on offense like Rainey, and Jakes is not a quarterback that makes a defensive coordinator worry much, other than his running ability. Andrews is a good back but I see us being able to keep him in check as long as Jakes doesn't play out of his mind. That game should come down to our offense being able to step up. As for ULM, Browning is probably the player of the year in the Belt so far, so containing him will be a challenge. There is no reason we can't beat them too, but it won't be easy. No game from here on out will be easy, save for maybe USA who just beat Florida Atlantic.
  16. If we drop 2 before the WKU game we will probably be out of bowl contention
  17. Their defense isn't that good, but Browning has already thrown two picks.
  18. For those worried about his listed 5.14 listed 40 time on espn, 7 carries for 175 yards is impressive. He is a smooth runner who can scramble for a first down when we need it and will be able to run some read options plays too. Maybe he's more of a pocket passer, but he still will be a running threat for us.
  19. Apparently we have a stud right now in Travis Tamez who just graduated from Mesquite Horn and was Second Team all-state last year (Grogan was first team). He isn't listed on the roster, so I don't know what his status is for next year. I don't see the harm in offering Grogan, but I'm a former teammate of his so call me biased.
  20. People say schools want to take us down before we leave for C-USA, well apparently they are doing the same to FIU, just a little more successfully.
  21. Field goal good, 38-37 troy. 11 seconds left
  22. FIU forced a punt, now have the ball at their own 49 with 3:05 to go
  23. 37-35. Don't blow this FIU!
  24. Last night had field goals from 33, 42, 52, 52, and 56. If nobody else offers him I don't see why we shouldn't at least offer him a walk-on spot. Doubt that happens, but he could challenge Zach Paul and Travis Tamez to be Olen's predecessor.
