  1. Since we might be looking for a potential juco replacement for Power at TE, I hope we consider going after this guy. Plays at Scottsdale C.C. where Brock Berglund played for one scrimmage before transferring here. Listed at 6'4" and (depending on the source) between 245 and 263 lbs. Very well put together, looks like a defensive end but runs very fluidly and looks natural catching the ball. According to the team website he is a freshman, and according to rivals and his highlights he is coming out of juco in may. If these sources are correct then he should have three years to play three seasons once he arrives at a university for the start of fall practice. Lists one offer on rivals from Arkansas, but that's it surprisingly. Don't know if any other schools have offered or are going to but he is a BCS caliber player. I don't know how much of a relationship Berglund built with him in their short time there together but it'd be pretty sweet if Brock could help sway him to UNT. 2. As a lifelong Tennessee fan, I have no idea what will happen. The fan base is going crazy clamoring for Gruden, and I would like that as well. My darkhorse candidate is Willie Taggart from WKU. Not the name the UT faithful want to hear but the guy can flat out recruit and he isn't a bad coach either.
  3. A solid returning offensive line to go along with Jimmerson, Byrd, and Pegram should relieve pressure on the pass game. Hope the passing game can do the same for them, as they weren't able to this year.
  4. Sorry for being a buzzkill, but that article is from 2011. Kelvin Downs was a senior last year and is now at Arky State.
  5. The defensive coordinator, Ronnie Jones, relies heavily on the blitz and even more heavily on having stud cornerbacks. Our defense has stacked up among the best in the state in recent years. Jones was a head coach at West Texas A&M for a while and was a special teams coach for the Arizona Cardinals, so he has built quite the resume, especially for a high school DC. Wouldn't expect to see either of them on the college level anytime soon, but that's not to say they aren't qualified (double negative).
  6. Thanks Mr. Trussell, that's means a lot. I think the biggest reason we were able to turn things around and build something special was because we were there day in and day out, working together towards our goal. If the 2011 recruiting class, Connor's recruiting class, and the classes after that can do that, Coach Mac will make sure the same success will happen at UNT. The biggest reason UNT struggled recently is because so many players have left the program. If the recruits Coach Mac has brought in are able to stick with the program and get the most out of their abilities we will see this thing start to turn around.
  7. We'll be fine. We aren't UT so we're going to have to get some late bloomers and guys who have been overlooked in the recruiting process.
  8. Stunned and disappointed for me. If he isn't better than DT then I don't see how this team can improve very much with no improvement at the most important position.
  9. As one of the players for Arlington Martin during that transition, I completely see the similarities. I can't believe I never made the connections. Also, Coach Wintrich and Coach Gonzo appear to be from the same school of thought. When Coach Wager came in, we got a new weightroom and a strength and conditioning coordinator to kick everyone's butt. Looks like we have a good one at the helm in Denton as well. Good stuff Mr. Trussell.
  10. You also have to take into account the fact the he faces cover freaking zero nearly every game. Tired of excuses, football is a game of results and we aren't getting any. I'll admit, I'm relatively new to this fan base but I did watch Scott Hall play while I was growing up and, sadly, I watched all of the Dodge era. Please, great people of this fan base, don't subject yourself to feeling that DT is an adequate division-1 quarterback. He's a good guy but it would be for the best of the team if Berglund were able to prove he is a better player and win the job. Also, if this happens don't feel bad for DT. He's going to leave here with plenty of memories and free schooling well into his master's degree.
  11. All of our starting defensive backs will return next year, not to mention the hopeful return of Freddie Warner.
  12. I think that safety would make sure Cyril didn't have any knees left after he hit him. This is why I don't like giving the ball to big lineman to run it in on short plays. Defensive players are ruthless and they aim at your knees with everything they have. Did you see what happened to Lattimore?
  13. Don't forget to take into account that we no longer have Siddons committed since we pulled his scholly.
  14. I should've been more clear. No ADDITIONAL schollies. If all 5 sign then we will have no schollies open for anyone else. You just reiterated what I said. Would it be that much more difficult to read between the lines? Sorry, I'm in a grumpy mood with our basketball fan base right now. My point was, if Norris doesn't prove to be worth the scholarship I wonder if the coaches are open to pulling it. I'm not suggesting this, just throwing it out there as a possibility. If he along with the 4 commits sign then we will have no scholarships open to get anybody else out of this recruiting class.
  15. TJ Taylor spends a lot of his time out on the three-point arc. He is a pretty complete scorer yes, but I think on our roster he will have a lot of spot up opportunities on threes or pump fake drives to the hoop. His 3-point percentage wasn't great but he's streaky, not to mention he shot a lot of threes and might have gotten a little trigger happy at times. Not saying that won't happen once he starts playing here either. As for Wesley, I wouldn't be surprised to see him play some power forward up here, mainly by necessity if TM doesn't come back. TM is probably gone, Franklin, Niko, Patton, Holmen, basically every post we have except Coleman. Coleman will start at the 5 for us next year unless something drastic changes, but the competition at the 4 is wide open and is basically between all of our commits. People are acting like we are going to the Big East. CUSA is a nice step up from the Sun Belt, but 6'7" with his athleticism and skills, Wesley will be able to hold his own at the 4. I agree he is undersized for a 4 and his long term role with us is the 3, but he wouldn't be the only 6'7" power forward in that conference. As for Norris, I agree. With Walton's scholarship no longer open for next year in this class (as he will be redshirting and playing next year) I wonder if Norris is still being evaluated. If all 5 of our current commits sign (which to my knowledge Wesley and Friar have) then we will have no schollies open even if TM declares, since we have 4 graduating seniors.
  16. They think he fills a need in our current recruiting class?
  17. Considering they're all post players by nature except maybe Wesley, don't get your panties in a wad. Wesley has a really sweet outside stroke, which you can't really fix someone's shooting form at this stage in their life. He looks like our best recruit, hands down. As for shooters, yeah we could really use another one but at least we have TJ Taylor stepping in next year to help fill that void. Also, not so sure I want Soma Edo in this class. He is basically unrivaled athletically but the truth is he is a 6'5" post player and I know he's being recruited as a small forward but that's a hard transition to make if you haven't been training for it for years like Wesley has. I do agree that we could use another shooter but we have capable guys on our roster, give it time.
  18. You are correct. As for Hood, I don't know why he was granted a waiver to play this year. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8118407/former-mississippi-state-bulldogs-star-rodney-hood-transfer-duke-blue-devils
  19. Tonight's loss really disgusts me just as much as any of you. I've been guilty of hyping this team up to my fellow students, friends, and family. Here is my "it's not that bad thread," which is honestly just as much for me as it is for you. During the first week of the football season the MUTS football team lost to FCS (D-1AA) Mcneese State, who hasn't even turned out to be a very good team even by FBS standards. Their fans were calling for their coach, Rick Stockstill's head on a platter. Since then they are 6-2 with a blowout win at Georgia Tech and are in position to make a bowl game and control their destiny to win the conference outright. I know a loss to a D-2 school is much more embarrassing than a loss to an FCS school, but there is no reason this year can't be a tale of two seasons for us either. I'm gonna try to wake up and find out this is a bad nightmare, but if that doesn't work I'm going to wake up in the morning with a sick feeling in my stomach but still root like hell for us on Wednesday against Lamar.
  20. Yes, rebounding is terribly disappointing. Out-rebounded by not one, but two Division II schools.
  21. That is exactly what I meant. I said for our 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes, not rosters. Thank you for clearing that one up and actually reading.
