  1. Aside from throwing the football there is nothing on the football field that White is capable of that Fonzale Davis and Willie Ivery are not IMO.
  2. Yeah, they've had some really solid basketball teams over the years. As far as football is concerned, they've been very impressive on the recruiting front and they have played very well this year on the field. The east could anyone's next year with MUTS, ODU, Marshall, and maybe even WKU all having a shot. Throw in potentially FAU who is having a quietly solid season and it could be a real competitive division.
  3. I think he'd have to do a little more than just be error free. He needs to make big plays if we are going to get an upset, i.e. at ECU or against an SEC team on the road.
  4. We have plenty of momentum going in recruiting right now and we have had a lot of visitors, juniors and seniors, at our home games this year. And we've won all of our home games so that helps. As for the Carthage boys, we lead for Tee Goree, the 6'2" receiver with 22 tds, and he will be announcing his commitment a week from tomorrow. We are in good shape for him and his 6'4" teammate and they would be absolute icing on the cake for our terrific receiver class. Also, we will be able to sign up to 27 kids this year. This includes Oregon transfer Anthony Wallace. Since we only signed 23, 2 signees short of the 25 "limit," last year we can sign 2 more than the 25 "limit" as long as at least 2 signees enroll for this spring. That would be Wallace and early high school graduate Connor Means. We only have about 23-24 scholarship spots open currently but in the event that a few kids quit or transfer we could sign up to 27. Finally, with regards to the DeSoto boys, Nick Orr is a soft verbal to TCU and if they finish the season 4-8 and are sitting at home while we go to a conference championship and bowl game, we may have a good chance to snag another Orr.
  5. Our offense needs to step up or they may have a point. But I don't think either blow us out. Our defense is too good.
  6. As cool as that'd be, it's not enough of a foregone conclusion that that'll happen. We need some help to host the conference title game. I think our players and seniors should and will treat it like their last home game. But you know that.
  7. Exactly. Do we need to re-pin the 5 verbal commits' threads to remind us? Actually no, please don't do that. Well, we have one spot left in this signing class and we don't have a true post. If we get Jalen Jones that would just confirm to me that Benford wants to play small ball. It seems to me like Benford doesn't mind being short-handed at the two post positions. He wants to spread the floor and basically play hot potato around the perimeter until someone has an open shot, often a three. As long as Benny is here we'll probably see three and four guard lineups all for probably the majority of every game.
  8. Found this article on the Bellazin thread on that SMU message board. Blast from the past. Check out the recruits mentioned in this article. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2010/01/recruiting-update-3.html/
  9. No, we can clinch Saturday. We would need us to win and Rice and Tulane to lose. That would put Tulane at three losses with one game to go. They wouldn't be able to catch us so the tie-breaker would be irrelevant. Then Rice with 2 losses and us at 1 going into the last week would be insurmountable for them as well, since we would hold the tie-breaker and all they would be able to do would be tie-us. Highly unlikely, but mathematically we can clinch Saturday.
  10. I'm sorry thankskilling, but Birdemic was the worst movie/bird movie of all time. Great CGI in this scene though. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LrxZblVUkMU
  11. Junior cornerback from Whitehouse. We've already offered him, as has Louisiana Tech. Visited for the UTEP game. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1431110/ http://247sports.com/Player/Nate-Brooks-33756 http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Nate-Brooks-154622 http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7308471 http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187867/nate-brooks
  12. From Carthage. Been talked about in teammate Tee Goree's thread. Rutherford visited with Goree for the UTEP game. Rutherford is 6'4" 180 lbs and has 48 catches this year to go along with 749 yards receiving and 12 touchdown catches. Has a UNT and ULM offer. http://247sports.com/Player/Okeeron-Rutherford-31825 http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Okeeron-Rutherford-153916 http://www.scout.com/a.z?s=143&p=8&c=1&nid=6605643
  13. Bellazin has been maybe the most unsung hero on the whole team all year, along with the defensive line as a whole. He has played like a first-team all-conference defensive end and he's leading the conference in sacks. Really having a great senior season.
  14. I feel like Tulane was the turning point and MTSU was the confirmation that a turning point had occurred. I personally think Rice was the defining game though. Between the punt return, the jerseys, the stage, and the stand we showed that we were ready to take the next step that we have been building up for all year and ever since Mac has been here.
  15. I thought point differential was irrelevant. I think they just factor in your wins, losses, and strength of schedule. I could be wrong. I thought they factored in point differential in the past
  16. The day after conference championship game Saturday the bowls are officially announced.
  17. Yup. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Max-Martial-155845 I wonder if he's planning on enrolling next semester since he's taking the visits before this semester ends.
  18. If we can finish up the season the way we are all hoping, coupled with a good showing or maybe even a win in Austin, we will see more people than the Houston game in 2011 IMO.
  19. Says on 247 that Martial is visiting Idaho on 12/09 http://247sports.com/Player/Max-Martial-9501
  20. Southern Miss down 27-0 at half against FAU. I keep telling myself that they'll be a tough division foe for us down the road, but I don't know when. They really might go winless again. 2 straight winless seasons would be a really deep hole to dig themselves out of.
  21. Like, for the season? I think we're all figuring he's out for this week and maybe next.
  22. Yup, for better or worse. Hope we get some good news.
  23. Yup, exactly what got me thinking that. Watching the highlights I could find of him he does have a pretty slender frame. But he could still easily put on weight, but just by looking at him right now I don't think he'll ever get Marcus Smith big. But that's okay. When I think of what we could do with Rutherford I think of Cornelius Ingram, a receiver/tight end who played with Florida during the Tebow days. Ingram had a slender frame but he bulked up and became a matchup nightmare playing tight end. Ingram was a little bigger coming out of high school than Rutherford and he was an absolute natural pass-catcher. Ingram came into Florida under 210 lbs and played his junior and senior year in the high 230s. We wouldn't need Rutherford to be that good or big, but if we could get him in the high 210s and hopefully 220s he could add a similar wrinkle to our offense.
  24. The other catch is they can't be a full-time student, so they have to take less than 12 hours their first semester. Once they, or any student athlete or not, becomes a full-time student their 5-year eligibility clock begins, which includes one redshirt year. That much I am sure of. However, I'm not sure if they can enroll at the university that they are "grayshirting" at or if it has to be a community college. Either way, they also can't practice with the team. Once they join the team they have the 5 seasons to play in 4, they still get their redshirt.
