  1. Excited about Fine. Please stay healthy and practice sliding drills in practice every day- please do not lower your head and take on anyone. Still not totally on board with burning Fine's redshirt- he is someone that would have really benefitted from a year in a college program. Disappointed in the receivers- seemed like they could not get open/separation against SMU and BC. So much for a pass based offense...
  2. Agree. Let's compare this to our friends down the road- 2 million for a Clemson OC, or 725K for a UNC OC. BIG difference. Much deeper pockets, but they certainly stepped up to a much higher level. I'm a little surprised we got Littrel at that price, but I don't really think he was on any lower tier P5 or higher level G5 HC radar. I had never heard of our last two HC hires- McCarney or Littrel.
  3. A little disappointed in the salary- I was hoping that we would finally pay a coach 7 figures. If Littrel has 2-3 winning seasons here, he is on the fast track to really big money. If he goes 6-6 next year, we need to bump his salary up to 7 figures. Our program is a mess, and I don't think he will be able to post a winning record until year 3.
  4. I am very disappointed in Canales. He mailed this one in. Offense could not score a touchdown. I am now completely convinced that Canales was part of the problem and very happy that RV let him know early on that he was not a HC candidate. I can understand playing Minimac- he is a "leader" and team captain. But Greer? Come on Chico
  5. Agree D Smith is the best we have. He has three significant issues: 1) decision making 2) ball security and 3) throwing accuracy. He has a good arm, but really struggles with short passes. I don't think we will win more then 2-3 games next year with new HC and Da Smith as QB.
  6. Since the froggies have no chance of making the CFP, what effect does this have on the Meachum/Cumbie for HC push?
  7. Exactly...a slow start that lasted 60 minutes. We NEVER got started. Trash points in the 4th quarter against the 2nd/3rd team DON'T count. Canales is starting to sound like Mac- we are not big enough, strong enough, or fast enough to compete. What a disaster. I will say that on TV we looked slower and smaller then La Tech. Just can't believe how terrible our defense looks given the fact that we had a DEFENSIVE head coach the lsat 5 years.
  8. Probably the worst game North Texas game I have ever watched- completely non-competitive- we looked terrible on both sides of the ball. Chico is part of the problem now and has been for the last 6 years. He should not even be considered for a interview. Cosh needs to find a new career.
  9. Agree. Chico shares some of the responsibility for the situation that we are in. I just can't get real excited about beating 1-6 UTKFC team. I certainly appreciate what he is doing, but I agree he won't be a OC in FBS next year.
  10. Good question. I think we would be in about the same position. I don't think talent level and recruiting would have been much better. I think we still would have won the HOD bowl in 2013, since these were all Dodge recruits and guys that he was with in 2010 when he took over for Dodge
  11. I agree with going the "up and coming" coordinator route....higher risk=higher reward. I just don't think were are going to be able to get someone with prior Power 5 head coaching experience, especially on with Texas ties, which I am beginning to think is critical
  12. Agree- I always liked Mac, and when he said this I was really surprised and though that it was the beginning of the end for him. I think he knew when he said this that HE had not been able to recruit enough talent, so his days at North Texas were numbered. It's all on you Mac. Unfortunately, with the success of local programs like TCU, Baylor and ? SMU, it will be more difficult then ever to recruit to North Texas. We used to win a precious few of those recruiting battles, but I don't think we will for a long time.
  13. Agree. Linebackers looked terrible today- Anthony Wallace seems like he could never get off a block. Our defense looked terrible in the first half. They were better in the second, but still way too many misses tackles.
  14. As the first poster said, I am hoping to not get "double up on." I never thought that I would be saying that about a conference game. We are just not competitive and our defense is terrible. Unfortunately this year is going to set us back at least 3-4 years. I'm just hoping we will have another winning season before 2020
  15. Mac is such a class act- I will always be a fan of his. I really wish it had worked out for him. I will really miss his enthusiasm and love for North Texas. UNT is a better place because of him. Mac for AD?
  16. Mac- you did some good things while you were here. I appreciate the passion and enthusiasm you had for UNT. You were a great ambassador of the university. As others have already pointed out, it takes much more then that. I wish you the best- enjoy Florida.
  17. Wow...really surprises me that they lost to JMU- they way they played Baylor and TCU I thought they were going to win 7-8 games this year. I also though that Rice would play Baylor a little closer
  18. I was wondering the same thing Euless Wow...5th year out of high school- I didn't realize that. So even if he never sees the field this year it counts toward his remaining eligibility?
  19. Morris has got these guys playing well. SMU played well against Baylor and TCU. If we did the same against Iowa and Tennessee, I'm sure we would all be ecstatic
  20. McNulty was average today- he actually looked above average on a few drives, but his overall play was very average. The plays were definitely called to McNulty's skill set: quick 5-10 yard routes, and once Rice shut these down, McNulty struggled. Remember, McNulty was playing against a below average Rice secondary. The interception was not on McNulty, that one was on Harris. I think Macs assessment of McNulty's performance today guarantees that he will start the next 4-6 games. It is going to be a long season- I only see 2-3 winnable games: Portland State, UTSA, UTEP
  21. 37% was the number that Quartero was quoted as saying in the article. I think it was a total % of the 105 roster spots not of the 85 scholarships, but I am not sure
  22. Agree- nice article. I don't think those numbers are such a great thing and I don't think NT should be considered "Walk On U". Wow...37% of the roster is walk ons. Of course Mac points out that these walk-on guys are not just filling holes created by bad recruiting.
  23. I love that bit. Smatresk was obviously prepared with a thoughtful gift for the three of them. Smatresk is great- I really like him. Go Mean Green
  24. Plano Sr. High- class of 1991. I graduated with the great Mitch Maher. I even caught a few of his passes while at Vines HS
  25. Damn...I new this was coming. I am a big Jub-Jub homer. He is one of the best play by play guys. I have been listening to him on KNTU for a long time, and I heard the "do you believe in the mean green" call live on the radio. He will be missed
