  1. Apologies if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but one of Evan's former teammates is in the AFL now as well Nashville roster
  2. They have a half-stadium already. They're just getting around to putting up the other half. Not kidding.
  3. They didn't choose any of my ideas. Short-sighted bastards.
  4. "Palmer looking to Hendricks for the sign......here comes the 2-2 to Spencer.....it's a fly ball to deep right center, Blair's on his horse, it's way back....and you can tell it goodbye" might have been a call from a Baltimore-Texas game in '74 or so for NFL, as a kid I always liked Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen on NBC doing the AFC game of the week, usually involving the Raiders, Dolphins, or Steelers.
  5. One thing for Bobcat fans to remember is that in 1-A, the Barrick Nealy-s of the NCAA world will not be transferring there anymore. They will be lighting up 1-AA at SFA or SHSU or somesuch.
  6. perhaps y'all can post what businesses donate stuff so that we can send some business their way in return. Wish I could go, but I will be on a boogie board somewhere near the beach in Port Aransas this weekend.
  7. No shirt needed Name: Curtis, or usually just Curt Occupation: Securities Banker, Spec Forces weatherman (yes, really, just Google 'AFSOC'), and HS football official Known to HS coaches as: Homer, Cyclops, Stevie Wonder, Rain Man, various expletives Known to himself as: The Striped Avenger, The Great Equalizer, Dealer of Fate Currently scraping up a down payment to buy a house. Not that it has anything to do with the outcome of the GMG Bowl. Just sayin'.
  8. Not necessarily. Personal Fouls and Unsportsmanlike Conduct are not reviewable.
  9. How'd you like to have Denton Guyer's district schedule in your first year of varsity football ? Only 11 State Championships between them.
  10. A few humble suggestions. I renounce all ownership rights to said suggestions, consider them in the Public Domain as a service to a conference-mate in need. 11. Seems to be the most important game in several years. See ya there
  12. Rick, it was done correctly. The situation was offsetting penalties after a change of possession. If both penalties had been enforced, the down would have been replayed, meaning LSU still has possession. If, however, NT decided to decline the penalty against LSU, there is now only one penalty left, the illegal block during the return against NT. Since there is no incentive for LSU to decline this penalty, they will accept and the NT penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul, and North Texas keeps the ball. It's not an uncommon situation, the coach of the team that ends up in possession at the end of the play has to make a decision as to whether or not keeping possession "way back there" is preferable to a do-over with the other team having the ball. Note that in the Ark St game, there were offsetting penalties during Quinn's TD punt return. DD decided to accept the penalty against ASU (ASU will of course accept the penalty against NT) and make ASU punt again. He could have chosen to decline here as well, giving NT the ball deep in their own end.
  13. I got to know quite a few Tongans when I worked at DFW back in the day. If you'll notice, very few of them sign with the BcS schools in this area not even UT/aTm/TT or OU They usually go to the West Coast, where most of the Euless Polynesian families migrated from in the 1980's. Many came from Salt Lake City and the Bay Area, you will see Utah and BYU able to recruit quite a few from Trinity almost every year. It's a family/cultural thing.
  14. He probably didn't like being slapped around
  15. NT came out shooting circus 3's missing badly on the 1st 3 possessions. UNO recognized this and immediately sagged on Simpson, making him get rid of the ball a lot early on. Lackadaisical play let a hustling UNO squad run up a double-digit lead. Finally, late in the 1st half we started attacking their zone and whittled the deficit to 6 at the half. UNO started the 2nd with lights-out shooting and stretched it out to 16 at one point, before a furious rally finally gave the Mean Green the lead late. The Game of Inches then favored UNO greatly at the end, as we had TWO tap-ins missed with about 10 seconds left. This forced us to foul UNO, but with only 4 team fouls in the second half, we had to do it 3 times in a row to get them on the line, allowing them to run off about 4-5 extra seconds. Even then, the UNO shooter missed the front end of a one-and-one, but with Simpson having perfect rebound position, the ball took an extra roll around the rim before popping out after he finally came down. After fouling the UNO player that ended up with the loose ball, he hit both this time to stretch it to 3. Instead of taking the last time out to set up a play with 2 seconds left, we immediately inbounded short and dribbled upcourt, and were forced to put up a desperation airball from behind half-court. Observations: 1. Pit Crew non-existent tonight. It was my first game this year, so was this an anomaly ? Talons were weak this evening, too. 2. This team is capable of playing some really ugly "street" basketball. 3. Cheerleader count: 4 They were trying hard, though. 4. This year's version of The Basketball Mini-Brigade is the best sounding I've heard in awhile. The pre-game selections were really sharp, especially the tropical-sounding one. Note: where's the drummer ? 5. The Mean Green should have completely hammered the Privateers in the paint, but it just didn't happen. Simpson missed an easy dunk that was a serious powerdown in the 2nd half.
  16. Sirius also has Radio Margaritaville, which is every bit as good as its name implies.
  17. W. W. D. D. ? (What would Da do)
  18. The basic problem is that coaches do not want to give up control of site. Specifically, they want the ability to try and get an inner-city opponent with lots of speed on a grass field instead of turf, or a passing opponent outdoors in November/December, etc. They also want to control travel as much as they can (can't blame 'em). I wish Marshall hadn't chosen Tyler as a site......I wish they'd chosen Marshall. That would make urban/suburban coaches think twice about trying to bully rural coaches into accepting stadiums in their backyard as "neutral" sites.
  19. Sorry for the wet blanket, but I don't see any positives in a safety setting records for # of tackles. Congrats to Weathers anyway, if he hadn't stepped up things could've been much worse.
  20. Isn't Nealy another 1-A transfer moving around in search of playing time ? This has become modus operandi for many 1-AA football teams (especially in Southland) thanks to NCAA transfer rules. You'd hope TSU would pack the place for a National playoff quarterfinal.
  21. I'm in agreement that RV criticism is unfounded and very short-sighted (blame anyone ! blame everyone!). My only question for RV would be: When is Air Force gonna come here ? If it's being saved for a stadium debut, well OK, but otherwise they need to come on with it. We don't need to be doing unreturned games with non-BCS teams. Other than that, with the exception of a sub-par 2005 football season, we're on the right path, which I believe takes longer than 3-4 years to achieve.
