DENTON, Texas (5/15/07) – North Texas head basketball coach Johnny Jones has announced the signing of three-time Louisiana All-State selection Josh White to a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday.

White, named the 10th-best player in the state of Louisiana by Rivals.com, led Baton Rouge Christian Life Academy to back-to-back 1A state titles, while earning the state’s Most Outstanding Player award by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association.

"We couldn’t be more exited that Josh has joined the Mean Green family," Jones said. "He has shown himself to be a winner at every level, and is a pure point guard with a strong sense for the game. He has an ability to make others around him better and he comes from a great program coached by Todd Foster, and a wonderful family. Josh will be a great addition to our program, and will help keep the Mean Green at the top of the Sun Belt Conference."

White (5-10, 167) led the Crusaders with an average of 25.3 points, 7.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game as a senior. In the playoffs, White helped Christian Life cruise to a 33.6 point margin of victory in the team’s six playoff wins, including a pair of 50-plus point wins.

For his efforts, the point guard has collected a host of awards, including the District 7-1A MVP in each of the last three years, and the Baton Rouge Advocate’s All-Metro Most Outstanding Player in 2006 and 2007. He has been named the MVP of the state’s Top 28 Tournament in each of the last two seasons and the overall state MVP in 2007.

"North Texas got a bona fide winner and a kid with tremendous heart and toughness," said Christian Life Academy head coach Todd Foster. "Josh has done nothing but win his entire life. In my opinion, he is the best point guard in the state of Louisiana, and he can make an immediate impact at North Texas."

Brother of former University of Oklahoma standout Quannas White, Josh averaged over 24 points per game for the duration of his career and left Christian Life as the fourth-ranked team in the state regardless of classification according to MaxPreps.com.

Twice named to the Baton Rouge Advocate’s Star of Stars squad, White has been part of two national and eight state championships in club and high school competition and was a nominee for Louisiana’s Mr. Basketball and for the McDonald’s All-America team.

He joins a Mean Green squad coming off its most successful season in program history. North Texas racked up a school-record 23 wins and earned its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 19 years after taking the Sun Belt Conference crown.

White is the fourth signee for the Mean Green, joining Tristan Thompson (6-5, 185, G, Brewster Academy), Ryan McCoy (G, 6-0, 160, Midland JC) and Adam McCoy (G, 6-4, 190, Mesa CC) as the North Texas newcomers for 2007-08
