Mean Green’s Hines Named Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

DENTON (1/17/06) -- North Texas senior guard Isaac Hines (Dallas, Texas) was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Mean Green to back-to-back league victories, including a win over SBC West Division defending champion Denver.

Hines’ effort has helped North Texas tie its best start ever in league play with a 3-1 record. Hines scored in double figures both games, including a career-high 19 points against Florida International, and averaged 17.5 points per game on a .600 field goal percentage. He came back to score a team-high 16 points against Denver, which also topped his career high prior to the FIU game.

Ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference in three-point field goal percentage, Hines made 7-of-11 three’s on the week for a .636 percentage and was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line. Also ranked fifth in the Sun Belt in steals, he moved into a tie for the 10th most steals in school history as he picked up his 90th career steal during the week. Hines also averaged four rebounds, two assists and one steal per game for the two outings.

As a junior, Hines became the first player in school history to lead North Texas in steals, rebounds and assists during the same season. Hines was named Preseason Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference prior to the start of this year.

      SB at Charlotte (5/3-5/24)

      It all comes down to this. The softball ladies are a game behind FAU and Charlotte for first place in the conference. The Mean Green already own the tiebreaker 2-1 with FAU, so winning two of three in Charlotte this weekend would also be huge in that it would give the ladies the tiebreaker over both teams in case there is a three-way tie at 19-8. The biggest reason to try to take two of three in Charlotte is that second and third place in the conference is the difference between having to win just two games in two days to make it to the NCAA Tournament, or four games in four days. We can't finish lower than third. Fourth place Tulsa is 3 games behind UNT, and we swept them earlier in the year. Tulsa plays at FAU this weekend. Charlotte will be a tough out. Last year by way of playing one fewer conference game due to a rainout, they finished with one loss fewer than UNT and won the regular season title. However, we took two of three at home to the 49ers before beating them again in the conference tournament. They still made it to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large. This year, Charlotte has taken 2 of 3 at USF and vs. Wichita State while sweeping the likes of UAB and Tulsa, and are on an 11-game win streak overall. Standings going into the final weekend. The conference tournament is May 8-11 in Wichita. If we make it to the final on Saturday at 11 am, be prepared to drop everything and head up to Kansas to support! SCHOOL CONF CPCT. OVERALL PCT.
