Anyone can and should join. I hate the notion of withholding your financial support until, in this case, the Athletic Dept., measures up to some standard. Am I happy with the state of NT football ? Of course not. But what would happen to the Athletic program if every Mean Green member took Travis' stance ? We would need to shut down tomorrow. The only way we are going to get out of this situation is to work together. Rick is not happy with the results on the field. He's a very samrt guy. We don't need to "send him a message." Withholding much needed money would be like not feeding your kids because they stayed out too late or didn't pick up their room. If we do get to hire another coach, will he be more impressed with how many Mean Green members we have, or how many guys will fork over their money when we do this or that. If you expect every thing or everyone to please you, you should not be a Mean Green fan. Support the program because you want it to succeed, not as a reward. Most of us are not able to coach football. Most can't stripe the field or clean up after a game. What we CAN do is pay the freight for those that can do these jobs. I'm inclined to agree with you John Denver, however, doesn't a loss to Sam Houston (by SMU) make our win over SMU less significant ? I think I'd like to be the team that beat the team that beat TCU or Southern Miss. By the way, I would like to make the game next year at Ford Field another home game for North Texas. A huge attendance by NT would do 2 things. First, it would help the Mean Green with a home team feel and secondly, it would demonstrate just how important a NT/SMU/TCU yearly series could be. I don't usually get to go to the Mean Green Village on gameday. Saturday is just another day of work for me. But yesterday I got there at 4. It was super. Lots of fans wearing GREEN. The whole thing had a bigtime college feel to it. I was proud. When I would pass other Mean Green fans, there was a "hey" or a "Go Mean Green" or just a nod. I'd like to think this was typical of the pre game activities. I just got off the Mustang board (ponyfan) and they are hot. They are putting the loss into perspective not by saying that the Mean Green was the better team, but that they (SMU) is so inadapt that even NTSU (!) can beat them. However, when they do say something about the North Texas fans, the comments all seem to use words like gracious and classy.
