  1. I did both last night. It doesn't give you the chance to update Mean Green Club until after you have selected to purchase the tickets. Then it also gives you the options to add Mean Green Club donation and select parking area, as well as add Jr. Mean Green Club memberships.
  2. You are right! Forgot to do that right away.
  3. No - the selection show was during the week before spring break. The game fell on the Friday right before the beginning of spring break last time.
  4. Wow - from the sounds of some of these replies, I guess DFW is a ghost town during Thanksgiving weekend! I'm hoping that out-of-town visitors to my house will actually swell our family's attendance at the game by at least double.
  5. Ditto. Glad a decision has been made and we can move past this season. I'm looking forward to a successful recruiting season followed by a strong, competitive team next fall. Go Mean Green!
  6. Sanity on the board at the end of a losing season? I didn't think it was possible. Nice job!
  7. I think that Dodge's prospects have gotten better at remaining the HC at UNT for another year since Playmaker is so sure that he won't be back.
  8. Saw something today on the electronic billboard by the SuperPit about the game ball being delivered by skydivers. Anybody else see that?

  11. The reason I was so frustrated by last night's loss is because we SHOULD have won. That is at least a better sign than last year, when we probably didn't even deserve to win the one game that we did pull out. I hated the ending of the game yesterday -- but it wasn't the end of the world and is not a sign that we will never be better, quite the opposite.
  12. Actually, this was for the 2nd bowl berth in a row. However, it is important to note that this game was 19,000 more than the same opponent drew two years previous. It really is more about what our team is doing than about who the opponents are, for the most part.
  13. Just saw that it was being rebroadcast as I was flipping through the on-screen guide. Good chance for those who missed it to get the game recorded. Actually just finished watching the 1st part of the game on my DVR from yesterday with my brother-in-law who missed out on watching it.
  14. Actually, I'm taking credit for the win. You see, yesterday was my mother-in-law's birthday. Sept. 12 was my dad's birthday - so a win then is assured. Sept. 19 is my cousin's birthday - so we are good. Sept. 26 is my niece's birthday - good again. Oct. 3 is an open week (good thing - no relatives with birthdays that day - bullet dodged!) Oct. 10 is my sister's birthday. By then, the team should be able to hold their own - which is good since I don't have any other relatives' birthdays for a while to help them out for the rest of the season! Just for added measure, I will continue to wear the new UA shirt I just bought each game day and fly the new Mean Green car flag that I purchased for this year.
  15. I thought the colors and mascot were all developed by marketing people. Not sure there was ever a student led effort to pick those.
  16. UNT actually requires freshmen to live on campus (though not too sure how strongly this is enforced). From the current undergraduate catalog: "Housing All unmarried undergraduate students who have graduated from high school the semester prior to enrolling at UNT, who have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of university work (pre-college hours not included) and who enroll for 12 or more hours are required to reside in university-operated residence halls under a contractual room and board plan as long as space is available. Exemption may be granted by the director of housing in accordance with an established policy statement, which is available from the Department of Housing and Residence Life. "
  17. Thanks for those numbers - I had been trying to find those. Another note on the "normal" flu. Most deaths caused by the seasonal flu viruses are in the very young, very old, or people who are very sick. The concern with a 1918-type pandemic is that the deaths occur in ALL kinds of people (even those who were otherwise healthy). That is why the public health response is so aggressive right now.
  18. That's the great thing about these kinds of public health efforts. If they succeed, very few people get sick and then everyone complains that it was overkill. If they don't do this, then lots of people could get sick and all we would hear is complaints about how the government didn't do enough to prevent it. I prefer scenario #1.
  19. There are a couple of reasons why this is the response that public health officials are recommending for what seems to be a small number of cases. First - this particular strain appears to spread very easily, which means one case quickly becomes hundreds of cases if you have large numbers of people in close proximity to one another. Second - this strain is likely to cause a more serious disease than the normal seasonal flu strains. The last major pandemic of flu of this strain type (H1N1) was in 1918-1919. 500,000 people in the U.S. alone died due to that pandemic. The goal of these measures is to prevent the flu strain from having the chance to spread to large numbers of people, thus containing the outbreak.
  20. FWISD just announced they are closing until May 8.
  21. Introduced to the Legislature in January. We cannot control how quickly they decide to act on the legislation -- but the session ends in May.
  22. So I guess the $25,000,000 investment in research initiatives last year under the direction of Dr. Bataille is nothing? http://www.unt.edu/untresearch/2008-2009/initiatives.htm As well, there has been a tremendous effort to increase the support services for obtaining grants -- and grant dollars are number one on the list of things we need to address in order to reach Tier 1 status.
  23. I just saw the ad -- thought it was pretty cool since it was more of a spoof version than an attempt to remake a classic.
