  1. 1. That number is deceiving because another couple thousand at least live within a mile of campus in student apartments. 2. There must be something missing from that number, because I am about 99% sure our number is at least 6500. I'm going to try and find where I saw that number... EDIT: My count of the actual dorm numbers comes out to just around the number reported. Weird. For what it's worth, they are planning to build some new dorms in the near future as demand grows...
  2. A big plus will be that UNT vs. UALR will be the last conference game of the year...of anyone. All of the other standings will be final. We will know exactly what we need to accomplish in LR.
  3. Here is the UALR Press Release: UALR Athletics
  4. I think this is good thing. It allows us to focus on WKU, and we will be fresh on Saturday. WKU won't be so lucky as the play MTSU tomorrow. It will also make the layoff before the SBC tourney a couple days less. We looked pretty rusty in that first game last year.
  5. I guess the camera didn't really freeze...it just went offline for awhile to do some acid.
  6. That is what Houston may have said, but I would bet money on the reason behind that RS in 2006 being Kevin Kolb who was a senior at the time. It would be pretty easy to make something like that up. I am not saying they did, but I think there is reason to be skeptical. "Documentation" is only as good as the integrity of those who purport it.
  7. Case Keenum voluntarily took a RS his freshman year in 2006....
  8. The North Texas Softball team starts play tomorrow (Feb. 10) with a tournament in Arizona where they will play 6 games in 4 days (including 3 matchups vs. Pac 10 schools). They also have a lot of big name schools coming to Denton. I got to know a couple of the team members over the years, and it really means a lot to them when they have good fan support. I know it is not baseball, but it is the closest thing we have, and they are actually pretty good. They were picked to finish 4th in the SBC, behind ULL and FIU, and were basically tied for third with Troy (only 1 vote behind). The program as a whole is still very young, and is really starting to take off. I'm going to post a couple links underneath this, as well as the dates for all of the big home games. Please try and make it out and support the team if you live around the Denton area. These games are actually really fun, and the facility is pretty nice. Links: 1. Arizona Tournament Preview Video 2. Sun Belt Preseason Poll 3. Full Softball Schedule Notable Home Games: 1. Nebraska: Friday, February 18. 3:00pm 2. Oklahoma: Wednesday, March 2. 6:00pm 3. UTEP: Friday, March 4. 3:00pm 4. Louisiana Tech: Friday, March 4. 5:30pm 5. Mississippi: Saturday, March 5. 3:00pm 6. Louisiana-Lafayette: Saturday, March 12. 2:00pm (DH) AND Sunday, March 13. 11:00am. - ULL is a perennial SBC power, and is usually ranked in the top 25. 7. Baylor: Wednesday, March 16. 4:00pm. (DH) - UNT swept Baylor in a DH in Waco last year when the Bears were ranked #24. 8. Missouri: Wednesday, March 30. 4:00pm. (DH) Hopefully a lot of you can make it out to some games. In addition to knocking off #24 Baylor twice last year, UNT also beat #15 Texas here in Denton as well. These are fun games, and makes for an ok substitute for baseball right now. Go Mean Green!
  9. Storm Troopers may be the answer to protect the stadium. Here is what the plan could look like. 17 storm troopers between the stadium and Denia. 4 Storm Troopers guarding the club level, and 1 storm trooper protecting the office of "Ricky the Hut" (RV).
  10. He may be able to give Konockus Sashington a run for his money for the "best name on the team" title.
  11. There is lots of talk on this board about making sure Johnny Jones sticks around, but North Texas also needs to do everything they can to keep golf coach Brad Stracke around. The guy is an unbelieveable recruiter, and basically took us from Sun Belt mediocrity to back in the national rankings in one season. Now in year three he has us knocking on the door of the top 25.
  12. Mean Green Sports Only 6 players are mentioned with regard to medical redshirts...I thought we had many more injuries than that which would have qualified.
  13. I'm very happy that UNT honored the scholarship. If they said they were going to do it, they need to follow through, and they did. I'm also very happy because I really wanted this kid to be in green. His 40-yard time of 4.59 could be better, but he is 6'4" 210. We need some taller receivers, and Marcus Smith is a good start.
  14. I know your Media Relations Director really well. Good to see all the Mean Green influence over at the Allen Wranglers!
  15. John Weber sits in his living room in the Denia neighborhood of Denton, and opens a guidbook to editorial writing...he reads, and reads, and reads. Then he reaches the rule that would finally take him to the next level... Editorial Writing Rule #364: If it is impossible to gain credibility on the merits of your argument, only one viable option remains. Turn you letter into a Star Wars metaphor. John Weber: (yells triumphantly) "Yes, YEEESSS, that will do it (evil laugh). Those UNT folks will finally know that I mean business. Oh, crap." (Weber quickly becomes quiet and looks toward the TV concernedly) "Did I remember to DVR Star Trek?" (Curtains Close and Fade to Black)
  16. There are only a couple of these reports left before all of the numbers go final. The top crowd of the weekend was 4352 for North Texas vs. Florida Atlantic here in Denton. Western Kentucky is still in the overall lead, but the lead has been shrunk considerably over the last few weeks. North Texas is now trailing WKU by just under 700/game. Middle Tennessee is also making another run at the #2 spot, trailing North Texas by only 26/game. The overall SBC average is 2626. For conference play, North Texas remains in the lead after this weekend. UALR, Arkansas State, and UL-Lafayette are all within 200/game of North Texas. It is going to be a battle for the top spot. 6 teams for both overall attendance, and conference attendance are averaging over 3000 fans per game. That is not too bad. The away attendance is shown, but means little at this point. For what it's worth, ULM is closing in on FIU. The average attendance for a SBC conference game is 2696 (70 more than the overall average). WKU currently sits in 5th place in conference attendance, but it will be interesting to see what kind of crowd they draw for North Texas on ESPN2 this Saturday... Also, here are the current top 10 crowds of the year: 1. Western Kentucky (Louisville) - 7326 2. North Texas (Texas Tech) - 7105 3. Middle Tennessee (Vanderbilt) - 6820 4. Denver (FIU) - 6244 5. Western Kentucky (South Carolina) - 6012 6. Louisiana-Lafayette (ULM) - 5624 7. Denver (CS-Northridge) - 5450 8. South Alabama (FIU) - 5431 9. UALR (Arkansas State) - 5218 10. North Texas (Arkansas State) - 4856
  17. Thats not what I was getting at...I know the SBC has a guaranteed spot in those two games, and the third is a backup spot, but I thought I saw somewhere where the particular teams that go are not guaranteed. The SBC #1, is guaranteed a spot in one of them, but after that team chooses which invite to take, I thought it was up to the bowl games themselves to take their pick of the remaining bowl eligible SBC teams, and not necessarily just go down the line of the final conference standings. Like last year, if we had been bowl eligible as well, surely the Detroit game would have chosen us over FIU...the mobile bowl may be guaranteed for the SBC #2. I figured someone on here knew for sure.
  18. If I remember right, the Sun Belt champion is the only one that is guaranteed a bowl game. After that, the other bowl tie-ins get their pick of the Bowl Eligible teams in the Sun Belt. Someone please tell me if I am wrong on that. (it may just be the third bowl tie in that gets their choice). IF that is the case though, depending on who the eligible teams are, 6-6 may be good enough to get to a bowl game. We travel decent, and we have a hungry fan base, so if the pizza/car bowl in Detroit is looking for a team, I imagine we would get picked over FIU, FAU, ULM, ULL, etc. I'm with UNTCrazy727, its the Sun Belt. Yes we have some good teams, but we played close with almost everyone last year, even with a terrible string injuries. We have a new stadium thats going to be rowdy as heck, with an unbelievable new home field advantage. Even with the players we lost, I think all of our OOC games are winnable except for Alabama. Most importantly though, we have a coaching staff that knows what they are doing. Just because Coach Mccarney does not think we look like a bowl team yet, and it seems like he is doing a full rebuild does not mean that he isn't going to go out there and try and win every freakin game we play...even Alabama. I know we aren't going to win them all, but if he can get those players as excited as he has me, we are going to win some games that we aren't supposed to this year! Go Mean Green!
  19. If the tourney started today, we would have Troy in the first round with MTSU waiting in the quarterfinal.
  20. It's looking like we may need to steal one in Jonesboro and Bowling Green as well...
  21. The tiebreaker will be head-to-head record between the teams. After tonight, the result would be: 1. North Texas - (2-1) 2. Louisiana-Lafayette - (2-2) 3. Arkansas Little Rock - (1-2) The order you have them in already is correct.
