  1. I think a wide open offense at NT is long overdue and the guys most suited to that are Dodge and Dykes. It may take a couple of years to recruit the guys we need, but I think we need to go to the air to try and put us on the big-time map. Screw the power game. Leave that to the Texas and Oklahomas of the world. Also, while we're making changes and whether it's popular or not, I personally wish we would just go back to being "The Mean Green" on defense only (ala Doomsday, Steel Curtain, Orange Crush etc.). What's wrong with the Eagles? It's our national symbol and with a wide open offense "The Soaring Eagles" sounds pretty good to me.
  2. What's the deal with Florida International? They're a football newbie and have played the ACC, Big East, and MAC to the wire in all three games this season. They're managing to pull in a nice paycheck and play some good football all at the same time. Too bad we can't compete as well in OOC games as they seem to be doing. Regardless of the rest of the SBC scores today, it looks like we may have a rough go of it in The Belt this year.
  3. How the hell did Arky State beat Army? Army has now outplayed two Big 12 teams in back to back weeks.
  4. Maybe I can understand our 119 since they don't yet reflect the fact that we have HOPEFULLY been "Woodyized" , but Tulsa at 106 is ridiculous. They're a pretty good football team and we better be ready next Saturday.
  5. I hope this game finally convinced the coaching staff that Woody is the man. I think that we should try and develop Meager into a backup WR as well as third team QB. Meager has good speed and good hands, and with Woody's tendency to run with the ball, Meager would make a nice third option under center. It's high time we settle the QB controversy and get down to business. Rotating quarterbacks is just not the way to go for this team. With their differing styles, it just creates too much confusion for the entire offense.
  6. "The alumni wanted coach Ray Morrison's head after the Mustangs lost the first game in school history – at TCU in 1915. That 146-3 loss to Rice a year later went over badly." How could the "alumni" of SMU have wanted Morrison's head in 1915 when that was the first year of classes at SMU? Hmmm. Also, it sounds like the BS excuse gang is starting to come out in force for the punies. None of that is going to work because we plain and simply kicked their butts. Good job Mean Green. Let's get a little revenge again next week in Tulsa!
  7. Try The Word. I also had problems with KNTU. Let's do it Green!! http://www.thewordfm.com/?DB_OEM_ID=1800
  8. Nice find. Nice to see that no school in the final eight member SWC other than UT-Austin and Houston have more than us. I always knew that Houston had a good golf program, but I had no idea that they had won 16 men's golf championships. I was also surprised to see that Houston had no track championships other than one cross country title.
  9. I hope JT now realizes how much respect he has lost over the past year and decides to work his tail off getting ready for this season. He obviously has the talent, and the potential big-time dollars riding on his performance over the next two seasons should be an adequate motivating factor. Also, not having Weathers on that list is a joke. He was a force from day one last season.
  10. Nice post Green! I say give 'em a double dose of what we gave Baylor last time they were in town. I lived in University Park for a few years, so I'm very familiar with the BS attitudes of a school which is basically full of non-Texans and HP grads. who are trying to hide out from the real world in the "bubble" of the Park Cities. If we can't get up for the Punies then we can't get up for anyone. Regardless of what happens in Austin, let's kick some butt in front of a packed MeanGreen dominated house this fall. It's time to knock them off their hilltop and teach the uppity fools some manners!
  11. Rivals ASU recruiting rankings for the last four years: 91st, 87th, 87th, and 65th. The 65th isn't too bad, but it seems that you are the only "analyst" who is really taking notice of these national caliber supersonic athletes. Also, if there were "a lot" of suspended players last year, why should we not expect the same this year? Do you have their academic credentials as well as your size and speed numbers? I guess we'll have to see who they have on the field six months from now.
  12. Gee, I guess the rest of us just need to hang it up. No way any school can compete with those numbers. Based on your opinion, it looks like Arky State will make up virtually the entire SBC All-Conference defensive team. Yeah right. Homer opinions can be somewhat entertaining at times.
  13. Does this mean that we cannot even compete in the Southland? With six losses, it's ridiculous that USA got slammed into a first rounder with the Gators. Also, I noticed that the dreaded WAC didn't do too badly in the seedings. Considering the number of teams in their conference, they didn't do too badly at all.
  14. And some people wear Bush colored glasses (including me at times).
  15. I like USA's chances to at least play a tough first game also. A WHOLE lot of that will depend on who they play in the first round. They really seem to play well as a team, and they have excellent defensive intensity. Gonzaga is good, but the three times that I recall seeing them play, they didn't seem all that impressive. Morrison can shoot, but his overall game seemed a bit off when I saw him a couple of weeks ago.
  16. I don't feel ya, but I certainly hear ya! I have some of the same feelings. I've generally been the eternal optimist, but I'm beginning to get worn down a bit. If we were winning some OOC games in football, I would be able to tell myself that last year was just an unusual event so far for us in this 21st century. Unfortunately, some of our Belt championships look like they were a little on the fortuitous side when you look at them in hindsight. We clearly need to either change that pattern THIS coming season, or make some serious coaching changes after this coming season. Basketball and most other sports have been pretty depressing in the Belt also. In summary, I would give DD, JJ, and TS one more season to make something happen. If it doesn't, time to say bye bye!
  17. USA is a good TEAM. Depending on seeding, they could possibly make a little noise in the tourney. Outside chance at getting TWO Belt teams in postseason. Probable NIT for WKU.
  18. Texas has a couple of question marks on offense so it might not be too bad. Of course if our 3-4 is as porous as last years 4-3, you may be right. Just hope we can put some pressure on their rookie QB, and that the ineptitude of last year's offense was a one season anomaly. Next August I'll be saying that we're going there to win, but for now I'll say that I'd be happy with a 35-10 loss.
  19. Division II ? What Division II did he mention? The WAC certainly isn't DII, and last time I checked, Southland basketball/baseball etc. plays on the same level as the Sunbelt. On the surface going back to the Southland in any sport sounds pretty bad, but some of the points (especially regional rivals) were pretty good. The Southland has some very solid baseball programs, and I too think that we would probably dominate in most sports right off the bat. We sure the hell aren't doing that now in the Belt. Pretty depressing performance to tell you the truth. I have mixed feelings about the Football WAC over the Belt, but it's something to think about. My main problem with the WAC is losing a shot at the N.O. Bowl. Travel expenses wouldn't be that far off form the Sunbelt.
  20. A pitiful season indeed. I knew the Belt losses were all a TD or less, but those stats do put things into perspective. It's pretty amazing that if we would have had S. Hall (or Andrew) at the QB positon, we probably would be going to Lafayette next week. Not that we would deserve it or to blame everything on the QB (s), But I truly believe that we would of pulled out 3-5 of those games. Oh well, I just hope that the coaching staff learned something this year. If they didn't, then it's time for them to move on. I am ready to move on to BB for the time being. Let's hope things work out well for the Fouts boys this spring.
  21. When we get the big guys in here next year, we could have something special. The guards (and Simpson) are looking great and we just need some more experienced size inside. Hope the fans start to take notice.
  22. This armchair pointguard gets tired of saying that we made a good effort and that it was a good game, but it really was. Just like the Arizona State game a few days ago, we couldn't stop one player. He shot WAY too many free throws. I guess that's just one of those things that happens on the road in this game. I'll be in the stands for U of H. They have got a transfer named Lafayette that we need to put the clamps on. Stop him and we have a chance. Don't think I can make any games before that one. Go Green!
  23. Those numbers "basically" show that we are getting 20K+ for any Saturday game that has any significant meaning at all. I certainly noticed the difference at the Tulsa and ULM games. Certainly making progress in convincing the fickle fans to come out. If we start out better than terribly next year, I'm hoping for an SMU sellout.
  24. I really hope that JT gets the weight off. I would like to see him closer to 200 lbs. so he can utilize that incredible speed. Less weight usually means less injuries. I'm also hoping that Booger can do the same (substituting 300lbs) and have another shot at the NFL. Too much weight means too many injuries. I have no doubt about that.
