I agree. I also had some serious concerns about our not hiring a polished D1 defensive coordinator, but I guess I'm not quite ready to crucify the guy after just one game. At times it looked like our back seven was more like a back two. I kept wondering where our LB's and DB's were hiding. I sure hope that Mendoza is a quick learner because that was about as bad as I've seen. Our offense creates some unique issues for our defense to deal with and we clearly were not up to the task. On a slightly positive note, our lines on both sides of the ball (particularly our DL) didn't appear to play too badly. Plenty of mistakes by the OL, but overall not too bad for a bunch of young guys. Our receivers also showed some potential so I guess we at least have something to build upon. On the other hand, it's unfortunate that our best player continues to be our punter.

Oh well, we may soon find out that there are 85 copies of that gas pump key and this one may never stick in the record books. Certainly not out of the question.

Yeah, the "NS" and cold look to the place kind of gave it away. By the looks of the crowd though, it could of been the 25th overtime of our FIU game last year had it been a daylight game.

I would of loved to have played Miami. Excellent national exposure in Miami's first game at Joe Robbie. No telling how well our new offense will be functioning a year from now. Could of been a winnable game with some possible Florida recruiting ramifications. Plenty of WR talent running around that state.

I think that they all (football) have been broadcast out of Conroe the last two years as well as most of the B-ball games. I was kind of afraid that might end since MM was a major advertiser for those broadcasts. I spend about 1/3 of my time in the Lake Conroe area so I'm very happy that it's continuing. I just wish they would tell us which one of the twelve football games isn't being broadcast. Hopefully it's Oky U since I plan on being in Norman for that one.

Congrats to DM. I suspect that he'll show a little more poise back in the pocket when he (hopefully) doesn't have twenty guys bullrushing the backfield this year. We also might benefit by the fact that he and the returning receivers are more familiar with each others movements than they are at this point with GV. Don't want a two QB system by any means, but I hope we are able to get a pretty good look at GV this year as a backup. Without injury of course!

Yeah, to tell you the truth anyone that would use our new head coaches name as a handle is pretty damn questionable to me unless his name is Todd or Riley. Let's give it some time before we speculate on who will and won't be our QB this year OR next. Hell, practice just started! Let's wait and see!!

I agree wholeheartedly. I think Scott was one of the most underappreciated players ever to come through Denton. His play may not of been spectacular in appearance, but with the offense we were running he did about as good of a job as he possibly could. He fought through some major injuries and almost ran that offense to perfection.

I believe that just like most Texas towns back then all the main highways went straight through the center of town by the town square, but I have no idea what kind of road would of been just west of Fouts.

I sure like seeing our name up there between Ohio State and Mississippi for the four star DE prospect from Glendale. My how things are beginning to change around here!

As long as the DL stays healthy, I'm VERY excited about our defense and special teams. As far as the offense is concerned, I don't know if we're going to average 5 TD's a game or 5 picks a game. As you say, it is a total mystery to me also.

We probably haven't actively recruited them because their D1 talent is few and far between. They do well in 4a by continually slipping into that classification and avoiding the MUCH more intense competition in ALL sports in 5a, but their elite individual athletes in most sports are pretty much limited in number. I'm sure that both TD, JJ, and the rest of the crew will keep an eye out for any potential prospects.

Averaging slightly over one touchdown per game kind of tells the story . Here's to hoping we average WAY over 1 touchdown per quarter beginning this September .
