  1. He keeps coming back to "wasting away fees in other areas"... Just a couple thoughts: UNT has excellent resources because of these fees. I personally don't think we should hack at them to move our budget in favor of athletics. I want to take what we currently are, and add a well-funded athletics department into the mix. It has been studied and proven that the perceived value of our degrees goes hand-in-hand with athletic success and commitment. If the students embrace the athletics fee (NOT STADIUM FEE, (@U*%@AAHHHHH#(*$@#%)), then I am gladly donating 800 and more. That is what this stadium is about: UNT pride, alumni interaction, and support. Our four year title run while we had Fouts does not overshadow the fact that Fouts is a dump that needs to be replaced, as evidenced by it not being in compliance with the American Disabilities laws/codes, and cracks and leaks in the infrastructure. Every facility is eventually going to need to be refurbished/replaced at some point. It is Fout's time. How would the biology department liked it if the university told them their equipment isn't getting replaced until no one is failing? It wouldn't surprise me if this guy's GF is the green brigader who has commented a few times on the NT Daily editorials. They are very passionate about this, and IMO don't come across as the type that will give a rats about UNT after they have their degrees. Graduate. Be a band director. Have a high school band march in your hometown stadium that is better than Fouts....and be proud?
  2. 1 FBS win in 18 tries is not terrible? If we go winless through his third year, 1 FBS win in 36 games is not terrible?
  3. I've heard of being blindsided. I realize what you're saying, I just thinking playing keep away is a much fairer idea than running a specific route across the middle and jumping for a ball when you know a LB is coming from the opposing direction, ready to tear your head off. I can certainly see how it sounded like I was down-playing what a QB has to face, so touche. But what do I know? I've never played a down of organized, full contact football in my life, so I have to concede to those with experience/in the know.
  4. I love counterpoint. Let me throw in my two cents: Several coaches out there were hired at the same time Dodge was, and are fairing much better. Take a look @ Stanford, for example. Salary is moot. He's here. We got him. Doing his job? that's what we're debating. Dodge has chosen to bench players that performed much better than what we're seeing, in favor of these fresh/sophs. I love these young men to death for what they do, so let's realize that it was Dodge's decision to bench players that have a few skins on the wall in favor of youth. And it is showing. After what I have seen thus far, I am wondering if the best players really are on the field? My expectations? I used to think that coaches needed at least 3 years to build, and I like to think that should still be the case. But, as I've said before, it's becoming such a weak leg to stand on now-a-days because coaches are getting it done in a spiff across the country. Not even the wishbone-to-spread system apology works so much anymore: Todd Graham did wonders at Rice, freakin' Rice! and made them bowl worthy immediately! I'm not a Dickey apologist or a Dodge hater. I just hope people around here start seeing through the mess and realize how flawed a lot of these arguments have become. Facilities are moot. We've won here before, we can do it again. Salary is moot. We've got the one we wanted. Is the man doing his job? The Buick, love him or hate him, had some skins on the wall under the same or less circumstances. It was good to see Lance getting some time last week. And also taking at least a couple shots downfield at Roberson. Need more, please, kthanxbuhbye.
  5. You give the Fins staff too much credit. Cobbs has wowed on several occasions (mostly preseason, but still) and they have found ways to stiff him time and again. It still gets under my skin the way they handled the depth chart in general when Ricky first came back.
  6. A few groups that have been mentioned already in this thread are not necessarily against the stadium, but rather just apathetic. There's a difference when it comes to voter turnout.
  7. Totally makes sense. Being asked to take the shotgun, throw the ball away while dodging lumbering lineman is MUCH more tolling and dangerous than asking him to run in routes across the middle in the face of on-coming, blazing missiles linebackers.
  8. I think you're just trying to have fun with the board by ruffling feathers.
  9. We actually took a couple long shots towards Roberson, which is more than I can remember from the games leading into tonight.
  10. I don't know if they don't have speed. I think it's more about the play calling not utilizing them downfield. I see Roberson run down the sidelines a few times, with a DB he could easily out-jump for the ball...and Vizza doesn't even look his way?
  11. ..but when compared to what UTSA, UTA, WKU, Texas State, where does it stand? What is our expectation here? (Rhetoric, but feel free to chime in anyways)
  12. Big, do you have any scoop on the general psych of the team? I hope their spirits are high and they go out there tomorrow and play their hearts out.
  13. Tobi needs free beer for a year. And I like how he respectfully disagreed with CFacts: difference in perceived potential. Check has always been under the umbrella of "This is what we have always been and always will be" or at least that is the tone I am getting. Just because we have been something for 60 years does not mean we should never try to change it. Embracing apathy would be horrible.
  14. Many of the comments were a pleasant surprise. Dare I say some people here are arguing for the sake of arguing against those that are just arguing for the sake of arguing?
  15. We've been out of most games halfway through the second quarter. This is not a conditioning issue.
  16. El Paso has the highest number of heart clinics/cardiologists per capita of anywhere in the States. And they are some of the finest ones out there. Stupid Mexican food. Stupid racism. Why is it questionable for someone to report a culture? Why do I read posts like yours every time Hispanic culture is brought up, but I don't ever read the same when a report mentions "Czech" or "Deutsch" (sp) or "German"? Are the Hispanics thin-skinned? They are proud, for sure. Or maybe we are cultivated to be afraid of being racist to Mexixans. Or maybe you were being sarcastic, and my sarcastiradar is malfunctioning.
  17. Kinda tired of hearing we don't have speed. All these kids Dodge brought in are from a measurement standpoint as big/fast as UNT has ever been blessed with. The problem is that someone ain't putting them in a position to be game-time fast and show off any semblence of football instinct. Those '02 kids were ballers, regardless of their 40s, and regardless of their weight. And that's what our current kids need to be shown. And I don't think you can put the blame on their shoulders anymore. How many times can you question a kid's heart before they question your sanity?
  18. Less time for the Evil Empire opposition to gather their thoughts.
  19. I like to think the stadium fee will pass, and that is the bigger picture than Dodge. With an athletic budget fueled by the 7 dollar/hour increase, we can budget for a future in FBS football. It is modest, but enough that I feel comfortable that doomsday will be avoided, and we can afford whatever happens the next 1 - 2 seasons. We are UNT. We were here before Dodge, and we'll be here after him.
  20. I could never vote against Ninja Gaiden.
