  1. "... he speaks so well. He's so well spoken. He speaks so well. 'Speaks so well' is not a compliment!!! 'Speaks so well' is something you say about retarded people who can talk!"
  2. "Promoting the pride, spirit and positive image of the University of North Texas since 1974." Why have I never heard of these North Texas 40? How involved (if at all?) were they in promotion of the referendum?
  3. FFWing..."aaand there they go up to FBS!!!" "Who's next? Dallas Baptist...bring it biatches!"
  4. awesome. The time. the simplicity. the...just, everything. Thank you.' sigh.
  5. Any BCS school comparison is not really the same. A lot of these places are influenced by gobs and gobs of money, either the greed for a piece of the BCS pie or a big time donor who has a large voice ($). We don't have the luxury of either. We won't be getting into a BCS bowl anytime soon, and there isn't some huge contributor looming over RV's head to give them what he wants. Jim was the closest to that and we had some friction regarding the Dickey situation, but ultimately RV made the fire/hire call under his own terms. But after that, isn't everything relative? We don't have the big-time money for big-time names...so what? We passed over Jim Harbaugh for a high school legend. And you know what, I fell for it! I loved Dodge and the enthusiasm he brought. He is not being asked to compete with Clemson or Michigan. He is being asked to compete with FIU, ArkState, FAU, and Troy. FIU, if you recall, got their lone win against us last year. And apparently, in year two, we can't be competitive with ANYONE on our slate. This isn't the SEC or the WAC or CUSA. To be competitive in the Belt, you need a few game breakers and respectable line play. Don't we have that? I will say this: our O-Line has been great this year. LSU didn't touch Vizza. K-State didn't sack and got a couple hurries...I know we've got the safe game going: shotgun formation with quick outs. But I still think some credit is due and notice we're getting around 4 ypr? Correct me if I'm wrong. And amazingly, God Dodge and his Jesus walk-on-water offensive mind is having trouble scoring more than 20 points regularly. We've gotten SO GOOD, we can fly between the 20s for over 400 yards/game and NOT score 20. Hallelujah, thank you Savior. A cherry on top: our most prized recruit this year is not a player, he's our DC. But he's been caught in shouting matches with Dodge. And his defense is WORSE than last year's high school theatrical production. Am I alone in thinking "WTF is going on around here?" Harbaugh is winning games at STANFORD. Todd Graham got Rice to a bowl in his first year. HIS FIRST YEAR. And they were wishbone before his spread. Price got UTEP to a Bowl game for the first time in 16 years HIS FIRST YEAR It is realistic to give him 3 years. It is NOT unrealistic to expect improvement from game 1 to game 18. But somehow, we have gone from laying a turd in the 2007 finale to a win less FIU, to downright embarrassing ourselves and pissing off my fellow UNT office alums after a humiliating loss to them this go-round. I'm so torn on all of this. FIU is rolling right now, I know. The Belt is building. Price inherited (really tiring of that word) a squad built of 5th year players from Nord's regime. And I want Dodge to succeed so badly. But not for Dodge. Not for his son. I want UNT to win. And barely escaping a transitional WKU last year, in addition to a LaMo win that would never have materialized had the game been 5 minutes longer...this just isn't going in the direction conducive to a positive outcome. Players that have earned and deserve better, worked their butts off, are being benched. We have an incredible O-line coach, who could very well be looking for another job so he can coach audibles. I don't like the "cupboard was bare" argument. I don't like the idea of knocking on Dickey's players, because they work their tails off. They always ALWAYS looked better than this. And blaming our results totally on youth is patronizing me. Dodge came here to win right? So he puts the best players on the field right? right? These two classes he has assembled drew high praise from everyone. Faster. Bigger. Athletic. State champions. They are working their butts off, and someone is not putting them in a position to win. It is not fair to them. And we hear nothing. Dodge doesn't let his players speak much except "things are going great" and "we're just playing to what the defense gives us". His assistants aren't allowed to speak. Aside from not telling anyone to "f off", this doesn't seem much different than the bunker mentality Dickey's teams had. Todd is alienating himself from everybody outside his office. So it is only accelerating any negative perceptions that are building. What's his football plan now? Has he tweaked anything? I don't see tight-end "tornado" packages, but maybe I've missed them. Why doesn't he elaborate on anything? Wade Phillips could admit being out coached. It's a perfect sign of adult responsibility. And Dallas-dome loves him for admitting his mistakes, because you have to think he acknowledges them and wants to learn to be better. UTEP humiliated UCF a couple weeks ago. You know what O'Leary had to say? it wasn't "our players need to learn to stop the explosive plays." It was "We were severely out-coached." whoa. slow down. end rant. my bad. *deep breath* I already know the counter-point I'm going to hear. And I have two specific posters in mind who will be first to voice it. I just think we need to agree to disagree: my opinion: 4 - 5 years is TOO LONG to wait for improvement. It is evident across every level of football - BCS teams, non-AQ teams, NFL, high school teams - that improvement, scoreboard improvement, should be expected from game 1 to game 18. Let's see how this boat sails on, my friends.
  6. So who's job is it to get the paper work in on time?
  7. Regarding Mandy, her choice of colors is only the cherry on top of a scoop of complaints. JJ has never given us reason to question his loyalty. he can wear orange out there and let Riley play wing for all I care.
  8. I went there for the first time a couple weeks ago. Very cool little place. Although, the warm paint colors coupled with my age relative to others... I felt like David Wooderson hanging at the Emporium, "alright alright alright"
  9. Show me how many schools are willing to wait that long anymore. You're reasons seem fair, but realistically many programs don't agree with that anymore. On the other side, how many schools dumped their coach after only 3 years and did fine with their next hire? Ya'll act like the UNT world will end if he is gone early. Again, I'm not calling for his head. Just pointing out how times have changed.
  10. Book drama at Sam's Club! HORRORSIRENHORRORSIRENHORROR This bookworm bullshight needs to stop. Somebody find a man in a blue vest.
  11. Or worse yet, Krammie, members of the Coalition for the Liberation of Itinerant Treedwellers. The implications are disastrous.
  12. Rich got the QB he needs for next year. I anticipate Michigan to be rolling in '09.
  13. It was purely hypothetical. and I mean hy-po-the-tic-al.
  14. Nice to have the cliff notes of the last 3 months. And all things considered, I trust Deloach more than anyone on this staff. To put the blame on him for bad performances is understandable, but there has to be more going on that we don't know about.
  15. I saw on the opposition group that the total number of "not attending" was greater than those that joined.
  16. How about a guarantee that our head coach have some college head coach skins on the wall? I think that is something within our control. 2 years is a real chance. 1 offseason was good enough for Rice's wishbone-spread changeover. After 16 games, is it too much to ask for signs of being competitive? I.e., holding a Belt opponent to under 50, or being competitive past the half? This argument is old and will only end in another dead end. Dodge apologists see things that cannot be quantified. "Realists" (I guess I am under that category?) are being unrealistic. Good Lord I can't wait for some wins!
  17. May I make a polite suggestion? Your tone, completely unintentional, is condescending. Calling people an idiot online is not going to win over their favor. And, BTW, I worry about negativity on THIS board. People - though a small minority - can come here looking for information and the labels can turn them off in a hurry. Also, throwing "facts" this and "facts" that does not seem to be working. It is their perception that we are having to address. Numbers can be spun different ways, so it is important to use them in a manner which supports your opinion. The passionate ones have already voted. Lets spend the rest of this week trying to make sure we address the casual voter that is looking for information, and respect what they are trying to find.
  18. To put another spin on his argument: If they have such a problem with how the fees are getting distributed, why is this an issue now? I think they are in agreement that Fouts is old, just in disagreement with how it is being asked of the students to fix the problem. But why should the athletics continue to suffer (because they are one of the worst funded FBS athletics in the country) just because they disagree with other departments? There are ways to address this. Vote yes for the athletics referendum, and then address the appropriate people about how the other fees are assessed.
  19. He keeps coming back to "wasting away fees in other areas"... Just a couple thoughts: UNT has excellent resources because of these fees. I personally don't think we should hack at them to move our budget in favor of athletics. I want to take what we currently are, and add a well-funded athletics department into the mix. It has been studied and proven that the perceived value of our degrees goes hand-in-hand with athletic success and commitment. If the students embrace the athletics fee (NOT STADIUM FEE, (@U*%@AAHHHHH#(*$@#%)), then I am gladly donating 800 and more. That is what this stadium is about: UNT pride, alumni interaction, and support. Our four year title run while we had Fouts does not overshadow the fact that Fouts is a dump that needs to be replaced, as evidenced by it not being in compliance with the American Disabilities laws/codes, and cracks and leaks in the infrastructure. Every facility is eventually going to need to be refurbished/replaced at some point. It is Fout's time. How would the biology department liked it if the university told them their equipment isn't getting replaced until no one is failing? It wouldn't surprise me if this guy's GF is the green brigader who has commented a few times on the NT Daily editorials. They are very passionate about this, and IMO don't come across as the type that will give a rats about UNT after they have their degrees. Graduate. Be a band director. Have a high school band march in your hometown stadium that is better than Fouts....and be proud?
  20. 1 FBS win in 18 tries is not terrible? If we go winless through his third year, 1 FBS win in 36 games is not terrible?
