  1. I just keep thinking that if anyone in our conference gets left out, it would be a 6-6 (4-4) Middle Tennessee team that lost to ODU to end the season. And since MT already has their invite, surely we will get one.
  2. I would hate to see an outbreak among our players and coaches. If he has it, some of his team does as well. This is not going to turn out well.
  3. CUSA has 7 bowl spots. There are 7 CUSA teams with 6 wins. Maybe they can just do the math.
  4. I agree. I think he made some really good hires at first. Then his assistants got raided. I don't think it hurt us as much from GH leaving as an OC as it did as a QB coach. Seth can do that too, but the HC should be everywhere in practice. You also have to consider the program that Seth took over. In the previous 21 years, we had 16 losing seasons including a stretch were we won 13 games over 6 years. That is hard to overcome when you are recruiting. Early on he got some good transfers and JUCO's to go with Fine. But if you look at our classes lately, he has done very well. There is also the thing with K-State. It is rare for a coach to openly talk to another school and recover with the one he is at. I think he may have finally gotten over it here. It sure would be nice to have a coach not get $$ in their eyes and decide to stay and win a while.
  5. I have looked, and I might have missed one, but I think Saturday was the 5th time we have defeated a 10 win team. The others were: 1999 vs. Boise St (10-3), 2013 vs Ball St. (10-3), 2013 vs Rice (10-4), 2017 vs Army (10-3) What a great time to be Green.
  6. My favorite was the dropped touchdown on the first drive. We motioned the tailback out to that side and set it up perfectly. The pass was dropped, but you could see that our coaches were finding flaws in the UTSA scheme and knew how to exploit them. That is when I first thought we had a good chance.
  7. This is the kind of kid I do not mind seeing in the portal. He came here, gave it his best, and does not see playing time in his future. This is what the portal should be, not a place for OU to recruit a starting point guard that was starting for us. To this young man I say thank you and good luck.
  8. I'm guessing that Long Island University isn't a qualifying win? Again guessing they have not been FCS long enough? Both Miami and West Virginia have wins over LIU. So, for bowl purposes, they are 5-6? Would they be lumped in with the other 5-7 teams and invited based on academics? Anyone know how this works?
  9. The portal is working exactly like the big schools intended. Schools like NT are merely farm teams. In the old days, they would hide a kid in JUCO until they were ready for him. Now he plays in a P5 league until they are ready. It will not change because, according to them, it is working perfectly.
  10. UTA also beat Houston on OT and are picked 3rd in their conference. We had our chances to win. Keep the faith.
  11. JJ Murray does so many things that help this team win. He has incredible vision on his passes. His defense is smothering. Amazingly, he rebounds well. He can shoot even if he rarely does. He is one of those guys that doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but you are glad he is on your team and not your opponents.
  12. Also, please tell me where the basketball weight room is in the pit. I don't think there is one. Why you ask? Because the academic side owns the pit and will not add one. We REALLY need to upgrade everything about our basketball facilities.
  13. I was most impressed with #21 Jaylen Mallard. She is VERY athletic and looks like she can play. It was nice to see Maddie Cleary off the bench early. She could add much needed scoring when we sub. Aly Gamez looks to be an excellent addition. She was on fire last night. Only two players did not go in last night. This team is much deeper than we have had. This team is going to contend. It will be a good test next week with Missouri State.
  14. I don't hate the black jerseys, but I do hate not being able to read the numbers. Use white numbers trimmed in green. Anything except green numbers on a black jersey.
  15. After hearing all these years that the Sun Belt was now a better conference and that they had "passed us by", when the AAC looked to expand they took 6 schools from CUSA. That I can see, not one Sun Belt school was invited to go anywhere. I find that funny, and just a little bit odd....
  16. I've never understood why the Super Pit doesn't have giant LED lights with North Texas or Mean Green along the top. I know why it has not happened, I've just never understood it.
  17. The numbers are hard to read. I don't mind the black, but they need to make the numbers stand out. Green on black is not good from the stands.
  18. I'm with Coach. Fix you helmet so that your effort counts. All that extra effort was worthless. I would have argued the poor spot cost us a first down.
  19. It makes for a long night as a coach when you know what to do, but your players cannot execute the scheme. When the X's whip the O's, it is rough. It is another matter entirely if you know as a coach what to do, but you do not or have not installed that portion of the scheme into the offense. That can happen when you have a QB that does not go through Spring Ball. He may have never taken reps on the things you REALLY need to do. You can be handcuffed when that happens. What concerned me the most Saturday were the clean keys UAB was getting from our scheme. In the 80"s and 90's, false keys were rare. In today's game, they are a lot more normal. That I could see, UAB never got a bad key. If it were me, that is where I would start. It sucks as a defensive coach when you cannot get clean keys and tell you kids where they should be looking. It makes them slow and slow defenses give up points. The second place for me is more plays where I can read a defender instead of blocking him (think old school triple option). If I can get a double team at the point of attack and read a defender instead of blocking him, it helps. It also makes the defense slow down and play assignment football. It takes away from our disadvantage in athleticism. These kinds of plays are still available in 1-back schemes.
  20. I have read another thread talking about the QB situation. Both played poorly, but they were not the problem on Saturday. UAB played a 50 front, but with only one LB (usually in a 50 front there are two over the guards). They played a nose, a Mike linebacker, two 4I's (inside shades on the tackles), and wide 9's. In the secondary, they played man on your three splits up tight. They had two safeties deep to cover if one of the three corners got beat deep. They almost never got out of that alignment. The problem is that you should run at that front. We tried, but our OL was completely dominated by the front of UAB. The play calling was correct for what UAB was doing. You should not throw the ball to three WR being covered by 5 DB. You should run the ball against a light box, but it seemed they were getting clean keys and were reacting without any hesitation. Until we solve that issue, we will continue to see that front. Coaches watch film and you can bet we will continue to see that until we solve it.
  21. Don't strike with the crown of the helmet. Do what we taught years ago and keep your head up. It is dangerous for everyone when a player drops his head. I have played, coached, and been an official and I don't have any problem with making the game safer for everyone. See what you hit, don't take cheap shots, and let's all play again next week.
  22. It would work except for some schools seeing themselves as "above" others. La Tech would never be in a conference with La Monroe. Same for New Mexico agreeing to be in a conference with New Mexico State. SMU would rather cancel the program than join the conference suggested. There is also the whole public vs private schools problem. Many private schools maintain an attitude of superiority and would refuse to be in a conference with public/state schools. It looks great on paper, but it will NEVER happen.
  23. I never really understood the fit. It just seemed out of place and maybe a little inappropriate. I don't think anyone will miss it.
  24. There were so many times last year that we never even got to 3rd down. Also, there were some questionable interference calls that converted at least 2 of those. The defense isn't there, but it is a lot better than it was.
