  1. I really think that Dillman can be a true surprise. It may take him awhile to adjust, but he has the size and athleticism to be special at that position.
  2. Very satisfying wins for both teams.
  3. In alphabetical order: 1. WR Jaeion Darden; "Darden might have had more attention had he played wide receiver at the high school level. Darden starts at QB for Houston Heights, so it will be interesting to see how he transitions to WR in college. He's a great athlete with a high football IQ."; 2 Tyreke Davis (S/LB) "The heartbeat of one of 5A's best teams, Davis burst into the scene with a breakout junior season that saw him average 6.7 yards a carry as a running back and lead the team with 117 tackles at linebacker. He's likely to bulk up and stick at North Texas, where he is committed."; 3.Cameron Johnson DB-A North Texas commit, Johnson has to work on his technique and footwork in order to make an early impact for the Mean Green. He does a good job of pressing wide outs at the line of scrimmage and often wins when he gambles by jumping routes early."4. Brian Parish (OL) "Parish looks taller than his listed size and possesses obvious length, giving him good frame potential as he continues to physically develop. He's an impressive downfield blocker because of his ability to get off the line of scrimmage and use his athleticism. Parish is great as a blocker in the screen game". 5. Cade Pearson (QB), Pearson gives his receivers a chance with accuracy. He doesn't possess the elite arm strength of P5 recruits, but he is accurate and deliberate. He excels in the quick passing game and has enough arm to stretch a defense when necessary. He's mobile inside the pocket".
  4. First, with an attendance of 39,117, the HOD bowl had the 2nd largest crowd of all 19 early bowls from 12/17 through 4 pm, 12/28 (eclipsed only by a slightly larger turn-out for the Military Bowl in Fort Worth. This again, proved that North Texas can be an attractive and profitable pick for a bowl. Second, the game was a broadcasters dream, with ups and downs and a down to the wire finish. Certainly, it left a better impression than a blow out would have...and third, the desire of the team and the enthusiasm of the North Texas crowd, made a very favorable impression of the program overall. I say "good job"!
  5. Texas Monthly recruiting issue currently on the stands, lists 5 North Texas signees among the state's top players, with fairly detailed write-ups on each. We can hope that these players are all hits and that some of the lesser acclaimed recruits have big upsides that many colleges didn't want to gamble on. As I say, the only proof of a recruiting class in the end is how they perform on the field. While stars count, they aren't perfect. UT consistently had higher ranked classes than TCU and Baylor when those schools outperformed the Horns. Boise originally built its program on JC's and lesser known recruits. It is possible, though not probable. As for this class, I'll hold my judgement until I see how they do.
  6. As with most recruiting classes, the proof will be in the pudding. Let's all just chill out and see how they perform.
  7. A lot of upside to this signing. A DE with 4.7 speed...if he can gain weight....or a possibility at other positions if not.
  8. I agree up to a point. However, there are plenty of examples of "high" rated classes turning into total busts...just look at some recent UT Austin seasons....and/or some of the low rated Boise classes several years back who ended up outperforming much higher classes. It is like probability in poker, good hole cards give you a better chance at winning, but there will be more than enough "bad beats" to ensure that you recognize that there is a difference between a high probability and a certainty.

  10. Based upon his first (full) season at Navarro, I would say this is an excellent pick-up. The injury this year knocked him off some radar sights, but pre-season he was the premier returning QB in the SWJCFC. Here is what Texas Football had to say about him: "Navarro brings back the top signal caller in the conference in Devlin Isadore (2.173 yards, 20 TD passes". And also..."the best is yet to come" (for him).
  11. Yes. But the accountability I hold them to is not how many starred athletes they sign, but how the teams perform with those they did sign.
  12. I have no expectations. I am sure the coaches will decide based upon many factors, including each QB's physical status and what new defensive wrinkles Army decides to throw at us.
  13. wouldn't count on that. Coaches can overlook a lot if they think they can get a good player.
  14. Regardless, I hope to be there by hook or by crook.
  15. Heard all of this stuff since I was a student here way back in the Middle Ages. North Texas fans tend to have lots of excuses. That is not saying that they don't have some reasons, but they never follow through even when they get what they claim to need to support their school.
  16. The interesting thing was I watched the UT game on Saturday and Shane Buechele was having EXACTLY the same kind of problems as Mason. I guess that is expected with true freshmen playing behind mediocre offensive lines and spending all day being battered by the defense.
  17. 67 tackles, 2 int's and 10 pass break-ups as a junior.
  18. The Travelling Wilbury's put together a nice tribute song to Roy Orbison after his death. Notice the empty rocking chair in this video with Roy's guitar in it. "End of the Line"....tribute to North Texas ex. Roy Orbinson
