  1. Sure, I'm willing to don the Green-colored glasses and drink a vat of Green Kool-aid in order to believe that TD has turned Meager into a Division I quarterback in 2 weeks of spring practice and 3 weeks of fall practice. Before I do, though, I'll say that Vizza is the man in game 5. Go DM! Prove us skeptics wrong.
  2. I think Meagar needs to start the first four games, because I wouldn't want to throw a true freshman against OU or Arkansas. I expect Vizza to take over after Arkansas, hopefully for at least 2 1/2 years of productive QB play before Riley enters the picture.
  3. 1980 at Texas Stadium vs SMU and the Pony Express. Craig James ripped off an 80 yarder early, but the defense did OK the rest of the way. The final was something like 28-3, and we generated no offense at all.
  4. Shawn Walters from my alma mater Arlington Lamar is my choice. He played in the early nineties and took Lamar to the state championship game (where the aforementioned Odell James ran all over us, as a sophomore!). Walters was 230 pounds in high school with speed. He was the starting tailback at USC for one season before he got hooked up with boosters and was kicked out of school. I think he tried Canadian football, but it didn't work out. Another waste of a great talent.
  5. I thought it might be Andrew Smith's death, but that was August 7th. I can't recall anything else noteworthy around that time.
  6. Bennett will go to a 4.5 as soon as we beat them again this year. After that, only a bowl game will save his job.
  7. Well at least we have the Rangers to fall back on until football starts
  8. I went with the family. We sat in the $2 upper deck seats with some students. My understanding is that we sold 500 tickets or so, but they were scattered throughout the ballpark so there wasn't much of a 'green' presence. JJ's first pitch was low and away, but at least he reached the plate. Nice catch by Maurice Holman. I was ticked off by the dot race, though. You would think that on Mean Green night, the green dot would win so we can all cheer for the green. Nope, the red dot wins at the wire. Great marketing by the Rangers
  9. I'm convinced the Rangers won't win as long as they buy into the Rudy Jamarillo myth. He's developed a bunch of guys that swing for the fences every at-bat and know nothing about situational hitting or working a pitcher or drawing walks. It's no coincidence that they score 10 runs off the spare pitchers in the league, but fold against quality pitching (see all playoff games vs the Yankees). It looks like he's already ruined Blalock, but maybe Texiera and Young can overcome his coaching.
  10. I'm afraid the Stars don't have enough goal scorers to stay in the playoffs very long. Modano's past his prime, and the rest of the roster are grinders. That's not going to get it done in a tight checking series. Turco's been really good, but Luongo's matched him save for save. You can't win every game 1-0 or 2-1.
  11. What I find interesting about next year is that we'll have the best inside tandem in the Sunbelt in Wooden and Williams. Those guys really started to become effective late in the season as Bell progressed and could set them up down low. JJ may have to change the style of offense from a perimeter team to a half-court team. I would expect us to bring in a JUCO scorer to fill in for Watson/Davis, and hope Sturns can find a consistent groove. We have a great chance to be back on top next year.
  12. It comes down to depth. Bell was good, but we had nobody to run the point when he was out with foul trouble. Wooden and Williams were very good inside, but Stewart and Howerton were out of their league (though they played hard). Davis wasn't effective, but there was no one to come in and pick up the slack. Sturns is supposed to be that guy, but he's too erratic. Our starting five played them even. The advantage of being a top 10 program is that you can bring High School All-Americans off the bench and not lose a beat. We're not deep enough to do that.
  13. I wonder if CWatson isn't turning himself into a late-second round NBA pick. He's a 6'5" guard with NBA range and athleticism, and is getting a ton of great press. A big day today would make things interesting for him.
  14. If the purpose of a watching party is to bring fans together to support their team, what is the point of having 32 separate watching "parties" in the Metroplex? The two locations by my house in Arlington are 1 mile apart. Why? This list looks like little more than a list of chain sports bars in the Metroplex. Thanks for the effort, NT Exes
  15. I agree with your points. There is a huge gap between a 2 and 15 seed; that's why #15 seeds are 4-84 all time in the tournament. That said, I think we need to go Loyola Marymount on them and turn this into a track meet. We need to jack up at least 35 3-pointers and pray that we can hit 40% of them. Let's try to play this in the 100's. I know it is their strength too, but we have to play to our strong suit, which is athleticism. If nothing else, we can provide some serious entertainment value.
  16. http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/6561634?MSNHPHMA While we're not the worst by far, a 25% graduation rate go us a mention in this article.
  17. Collegehoops.net has us as a #16 playing against Wisconsin. That's one I haven't heard yet. The bracketologists must be close to exhausting all combinations of us as a 14,15 or 16 and playing someone in the top 10 by now. Can't wait for Sunday at 5.
  18. Although the play-in game is technically part of the tournament, I think it is perceived as a throw-away game between two teams that lucked out in their conference tournaments and have no business being in the real tournament. I don't see where we benefit from either beating a Central Connecticut-type team, or worse, losing to them. Let's just get in front of a national TV audience against a top-caliber team and let's see what happens.
  19. You are forgiven for yesterday's thread GMG!!!!!!!!!!
  20. The conventional wisdom is that it is really hard to beat the same team three times in the same season. If that's the case, are we better off trying to beat WKU for the third time, or having ASU try to beat us for the third time?
  21. PLEASE FINISH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. We just have to hit free throws from here out.............
  23. Not to rip on TJ, but from what game would he have won a game ball? I don't recall him making a big splash in any game.
