  1. What if you had a Dodge offence and a Dckey defence? What if Dodge had kept Dickey and his defensive staff with Dickey as the DC? Would we be talking about what a great hire that was?
  2. Question: Who are the top 4 schools with the highest COA for instate players? hint............none of them are P5
  3. Prediction The ex UNT player who makes the biggest statement will be.Erick Evans.
  4. He is the one who got away. 2014 stats - rushed 24 times for 204 yards and 3 TDs He just needed a chance. He could put up some big numbers the next 3 years.
  5. And if Santa Anna had of listened to Billy Bob Thornton, he wouldn't have gotten a$$ kicked by Dennis Quaid. There are two sides to every coin.
  6. And if Billy Bob Thornton had it to do over again, he might have done more than shoot the epaulette of Santa Anna's uniform. woulda, coulda, shoulda
  7. Rivalry questions: 1 Who do you consider our chief rivals? 2 Do they feel the same way about us? 3 What teams do you hate to lose to the most? 4 What teams do you want to beat the most? Last queation: Which team gets written about the most (by far and away) on this forum? How about a poll: Which team do you consider our chief rival?
  8. 5 possible trophies 1. The Bird Trophy A Sculpture fo a hand giving the bird. 2. The I35 Trophy An I35 sign in a 5 gallon bucket of cement. 2a The KFC Trophy A KFC bucket filled with cement. 3. The Bronze Taco It is what it says it is. 4. The "It's not a rivalry" Trophy That's for the flat earthers who still think it will never be a rivalry. 5. The Golden Nest Trophy. That won't work because one of us doesn't have our own nest.
  9. A little light on their winning schedules Baylor 2010 7 home games beat Sam Houston 34-3 2011 8 home games beat SF Austin 48-0 2012 7 home games beat Sam Houston 48-23 2013 8 home games beat Wofford 69-3 2014 7 home games beat Northwestern St 70-6 TCU 2010 7 home games beat Tenn Tech 62-7 2011 7 home games beat Portland St 55-13 2012 6 home games beat Grambling 56-0 2013 7 home games beat SE Louisiana 38-17 2014 7 home games beat Samford 48-14 It also helps answer the question as to why it seems impossible to schedule a home and home. In Baylors case, some years all their out of conference games are in Waco.
  10. Ding, ding, ding!!!! The silver bullet is winning consistently for years. Boise didn't become Boise by playing unwinnable out of conference games each year while having only 5 home games. A nice home win over a weak team is better than a 35 pt road loss to LSU, etc. A big loss like that early in the season kills all momentum and wounds attendance for the rest of the year. UNT has been stubbornly trying to roll the same boulder up the same mountain for years. It dosen't work.
  11. Since we have played Nicholls State and are going to play Lamar, Incarnate Word, and Abilene Christain, I sense a Southland Conference theme developing. SFA can't be far behind.
  12. Some random thoughts after reading most of the posts. 1 Having only five home games sucks. 2 Having Army and smu on the schedule for the next several years is exactly perfect. 3 The body bag game each year is a bit more of an opportunity game than in the past...not LSU, Alabama, etc. 4 Having one home game with the sisters of the poor is how most teams build records. 5 After this year I kind of like the schedule.
  13. On the QB to TE debate, I agree the skill set is different in a way. A 6' 190 lb QB can not play TE, nor could a tall slow pocket passer. But the skill set of a 6' 4" 245 lb dual threat QB is a totally different deal.
  14. Top 10 reasons some people might prefer El Paso to Denton 10 They are just not that into trees. 9 They like to go shopping for cheap souvenirs. 8 They really want to learn Spanish. 7 They like cactus. 6 Easier to get a sun tan when there are no clouds.......ever. 5 El Paso has more Mexican food restaurants. 4 They like l o n g road trips. 3 Only a 10 hour drive from DFW if you drive fast and don't take breaks. 2 No surprise visits by mom and dad. 1 .....but it's a dry heat
  15. 2 thoughts: 1. Our predictability on 1st down is still not as predictable as some of the answers on this thread. 2. It's not as much about the X's and O's as it is about the Jimmys and Joes. If given the right players, any system will work.
  16. OK, let me get this straight. The gold standard seems to be Mitch Maher who is the UNT all time passing leader. Of course UNT did manage to win 18 games in the 4 years he was here. While we did lose to McNeese St 3 times and Northwestern St 3 times during those years, we did manage to win against them in his senior year. The Southland conference was tough. Yes, some people are comparing apples to bananas.
  17. Did you ever wonder about how good a player could have been at a different position? Many players never reach their full potential because they could play well enough at a different spot. Wasn't all pro Brian Waters a TE in college? Dillman can probably make it as a QB, TE, DE, or even a LB. I hope he and the coaches find the right spot as he could be really good. If he needs time to develop as a QB for example, that's what a redshirt is for.
  18. The field looks crowded, but not for Chumley if he red shirts. By the time he's a red shirt freshman, McNulty is gone, Smith would be a senior, etc. I hope he has the tools so that after 2 springs and one full season he soaks in all in.
  19. How about a scenario where Notre Dame and BYU get together and make their own conference. Notre Dame agrees to 25% of the revenue and BYU gets 15%. They invite 12 other teams to join them with each team getting 5%. Start with East West Notre Dame BYU Cincinnati Boise Navy Air Force Temple Houston Memphis San Diego St Plus 4 more They could have a heck of a TV contract and a really tough football conference. Would the other schools take 5% of this conference rather than 7 or 8% of their current conference?
  20. Could a conference be put together that rivals the monopoly of the big 5? How about the Continental Conference with 16 teams starting with Boise, Air Force, NIU, Houston, BYU, Marshall, etc.
  21. I personally don't know many people who started at the top..........unless daddy owned the company.
  22. The question is: "What do you expect from this program?" If you mean expect in terms of goals, it would be go to a bowl 9 times out of 10. If you mean expect in terms of what do I suppose will happen, well that's a whole different can of worms.
  23. 5 quick thoughts on the game: 1. At the start of the 1st quarter I had pizza ready and was excited for the game to start. 2. By the 2nd quarter I started to get indigestion and was feeling a little gassy. 3. By the 3rd quarter I was changing channels between the game and Survivor Man. 4. By the 4th quarter I was watching Survivor Man gather honey while getting stung by bees. 5. By the end of the game I was thinking it would be more fun/less painful to endure bee stings than to watch that game.
  24. Since the University of the Incarnate Word was founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, does this means we will literally be playing the sisters of the poor?
  25. Thought the same thing. A fast 5' 10" QB would be recruited as a DB or WR at big 5 schools. If he really wanted to be a QB, then your chances of recruiting him should be pretty good. He could help in the wildcat with limited plays early on. Later on he might develop into a starter.
