  1. By having only 5 home games, If we bear Portland State, UTSA, and UTEP, we would have a 3 - 2 home record. I bet that would get talked about over and over again.
  2. Maybe the Baylor game at old rusted Fouts Feild - Sept 6 2003. Attendance 29,437 .....If you add in players, coaches, ticket takers, security, etc, all together, it probably made it to 30,000 people who were there. I remember 3 things. Brandon Kennedy's 24 yard fumble return for a TD, Patrick Cobbs' 81 yard TD, and how utterly distraught the Baylor fans were. We were walking out behind a Baylor group in the parking lot and they were totally dumbfounded after getting beat 52 -14. Good times.
  3. No, not at all. Knowing my uncle, he would have thought it was pretty cool to be remembered for making a gallant stand. However, he would have been angry that someone would call it a stalemate. They held Bastogne and the 7 major roads that went though it for 8 days until Patton's 3rd Army broke through. Trust me, there wouldn't have been any confusion on his part. Go USA, and go Mean Green.
  4. My uncle was at Bastogne and if he were alive today, he would strongly disagree about it being a stalemate. They dug in and refused to give up. It bought time and allowed us to regroup. All 3 battles were determined stands that turned around wars. If we don't make a determined stand Saturday, this season is lost.
  5. We may learn the exact meaning of "a moment of clarity."
  6. Now if you could get the old Johhny Cash protest song, Man in Black, played over the PA or by the band at half time, it would be perfect.. Check out you tube: Johnny Cash sings "Man in Black" for the first time. It's awesome.
  7. Heartbreak Ridge Col. Meyers "What's your assessment of the situation, Gunny?" Sgt. Highway: "it's a cluster f#@%, sir.
  8. "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome!" Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway (Clint Eastwood) - Heartbreak Ridge We must have missed that memo.
  9. This team needs to make a totally determined stand against Portland State. Time is now or never.
  10. Some players perform much better under pressure. Some "great" players choke under pressure. Some baseball players pad their stats by hitting a homer late in a blowout game. Some baseball players are really average with the bases empty but are feared when the bases are loaded and the game is on the line. It's the same for all sports. You can't know exactly how good a player can be until he has been put in that position several times.
  11. 1. A coach who can recruit the Dallas area, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. 2. A coach who can recruit the Dallas area, Texas, and Oklahoma. 3. A coach who can recruit the Dallas area and Texas. 4. A coach who can recruit the Dallas area. 5. A coach who can recruit. "Great players make great coaches" Barry Switzer
  12. 5 thoughts on the season 1. The season is ugly...........more than most of us thought possible. 2. Lose to Portland State and we will have hit a new low. 3. We play Western Kentucky the next game. They just beat Rice 49 - 10. That game has real ugly painted all over it. 4. The game after that we play Marshall. They beat Purdue by 10. What will the point spread be for that one? 5. I don't want to hear any more comparisons to DD as it is insulting to Dickey.
  13. I still think UTSA at 0 - 4 is still our best chance for a win.........even though they are ranked at 140 to our 156.
  14. I picked us to win because I don't see how we can win and sometimes I'm wrong. For those of you who were so upset that we have to play UTSA every year...........how about now? An 0 - 4 UTSA may be our best chance for a W.
  15. There is an old saying: If it ain't broke don't fix it. That ain't the case here. If we lose the next 2, we better pull the plug and try to salvage something good from this season by playing the players who will be around next year. Find out who can play and who can't. Let them gain experience this year rather than trying to figure it out next year.
  16. Lance is having a really good season. 14th in All purpose yards with 361. On pace for 1925. 10th in kickoff return yards. 22nd in receiving yards with 215. On pace for 1147. 13th in receptions with 21. On pace for 112.
  17. DD managed to win 4 conference championships and got us to 4 bowls.
  18. Portland State is hard to run on. 89 carries for 192 yards = 2.16 per carry. They are 3-0 and ranked. They handed Washington State their only loss by scoring 24 pts in the 2nd half. We are in the perfect storm.
  19. #Play13 may come from his top secret play book that was lost years ago but was just found and returned to him by the waterboy. Remember to stay hydrated.
  20. I hope we win and win big. I also hope that we win the conference and then win the bowl game. I also hope that I win the lottery. Vegas odds are about the same for all three.
  21. Everyone seems to take the Portland State game as a walk in the park. I posted they were 2-1 but I was wrong. They are 2 - 0 with a road win at 2 -1 Washington State. Portland scored 24 points on WS in the 2nd half. They are a top 20 FCS team. They are hard to run on. (2.5 yards per carry) Both wins are on the road. Pardon me, but my confidence is a little shaky at the moment.
  22. Looking at the schedule..... 3. Iowa 3 - 0 4. Southern Miss 2 - 1 5. Portland State 2 -1 ......Beat Washington State 24 -17 6. Western Kentucky 2-1 7. Marshall 2-1 I hope i'm wrong but it doesn't look good.
  23. Did you know that Lance Dunbar is 14th in the NFL for all-purpose yards? 224 total yards (115 yards receiving, 101 kick off return, and 8 yards rushing) That projects out to 1792 yards!!! He is ranked 8th in kick off return yards and 45th in receiving yards. WAY TO GO LANCE
  24. Five additional things to like about the rest of the season: 6. Less traffic on game days. 7. Better parking. 8. Great seat selection for non season ticket holders. 9. You won't miss the halftime show standing in line for concessions. 10. When you invite guests to the game they can carry on a pleasant conversation without yelling over a lot of crowd noise. All jokes aside, this is like watching a train wreck. Unfortunately it's setting up to be the perfect storm.
  25. 5 Things to like about this season 1. Late start for the season means we can talk about next year sooner. 2, Since the 2nd home game is October 10, fans won't have to sweat much . 3. Only five home games means fewer chances for an embarrassing home loss. 4. You don't have to worry about a bowl game conflicting with holiday plans. 5. No bye week = shorter season. When you rip a Band-Aid off, it's best to get it over with as quickly as possible.
