  1. UNT, UTSA, TS, TT, HOUSTON, & UTA are all public schools with enrollments over 30,000 and in the same basic geographic area. UTEP is smaller and should relate better to the MWC rather than the future CUSA. What ever the conference, we need to get FB & BB rivalries going with Texas schools in our area.
  2. I agree with you.(untjim1995) At least play body bag games later in the season. I think bad early losses may cost in the long run as it knocks down attendance for the rest of our home games. Also, an easier schedule might start a bowl run and all the excitement that goes with it. A few years down the road body bag games might become statement games. One step at a time.
  3. Draw a 300 mile circle around Denton and look at ALL FBS schools in that area. Play any FBS school that will play us home and home games. We need to build rivalries. If they suck it will give us easy FBS wins that will help us build a winning record and go to a bowl every year. Wins will put excited fans in the stands. Wins against UTSA and Tx St are better than bad losses on the road at LSU and Alabama. Follow the lead of other schools that have stepped up to bigger conferences. They did not get there by playing 7 road game against the toughest schedule they could come up with. This isn't rocket science.
  4. Face facts. 1. UTSA home games averaged 35,521 last year. With a 4-6 record they still drew 32,369 their last home game playing Minot State. They have HOME games lined up with Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia, Kansas State, Rice, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. The Alamodome holds 65,000. They have a huge city behind them with no pro team to contend with. We have little if any impact on their future. 2. Getting beat bad early in the season by LSU or Alabama takes away any enthusiasm about our program and hurts our recruiting & attendance. It does help LSU & Alabama recruit Texas talent. According to Rivals we signed 5 three star recruits this year while Tx St signed 11 three star recruits. Beating Tx St or UTSA would help us build a record and it might help our recruiting as we tend to go after the same type of players. 3. We need local rivals that will play home & home games. They will help to fill our stadium. From where I sat at the last home game, the stadium look nearly empty. How did it look from your seat? 4. We need to establish a winning tradition. It won't happen playing LSU, Alabama, or UT right now. Boise built a winning program first and then pointed at one or two tough games a year.
  5. If JJ leaves..... what coach in his right mind would not want this job. I'm not drunk on green Kool-Aid. If you were a coach, would you consider a school that will have its top 7 scorers back on a team that won 18 games and whose big guns were freshmen? Plus they signed a big rebounding, shot blocking center to go with a team that should make it to the big dance. Plus they will add a transferring scorer (Patton) who should really give minutes and add depth & size. This is not hard to sell. We should be able to get a really top notch coach. If JJ leaves, he leaves us in the best position we could possibly be in.
  6. Give a post game concert. Invite local bands (rock, pop, country) to play. Upstart bands playing local clubs would jump at the chance. They might do it for just the publicity and the chance to play a stadium. A lot of students would show up just for the concert. They might get into football if they see a good game. Call it the show after the show. Do it every game if it works.
  7. I was at the 1978 championship game between Sealy and Wylie in Waco. Eric Dickerson was by far the best running back I've ever seen (rushed well over 300 yards and 4 TDs). He was also the best defensive back I've ever seen. It was basically 10 guys at the line of scrimmage and Dickerson as the defensive backfield. At 6'3 and well over 200 he could flat cover ground and lay people out. He also won state in the 100 dash. I read he ran 100 YARDS(not meters) in 9.4 seconds. He still holds the NFL single season rushing record at 2105 yards.
  8. Did you ever see Lucy hold the ball for Charlie Brown? Wait for the ball to go over the uprights.
  9. It's like trying to rename the pickle. What's the point? In the end it's still going to be just a pickle.
  10. WOW! Let's recap .....and look at the facts. 1. Playing UTSA & TS would drag us down to their level. UTSA home games averaged 35,521 last year. With a 4-6 record they still drew 32,369 their last home game against something called Minot State. They have HOME games lined up with Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia, Kansas State, Rice, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. The Alamodome holds 65,000. 2. Playing them would let them compete with us for Texas recruits. According to Rivals we signed 5 three star recruits this year while TS signed 11 three star recruits. What could they have done if they had played us? 3. We don't need their help to fill our stadium. I watched Steve Ramsey play when we were NTSU. I also sat under the overhang with a few other people and looked at a nearly empty NEW stadium as we routed MT the last game of this past season. We don't have to go to Egypt to find De Nile. I hope we can get into the new USA/alliance conference. We really need it. It would be OK if some other Texas schools come along for the ride. But the truth is I would not be totally shocked if UTSA gets picked over us because of their potential and location.
  11. Wow! I have an idea. Let's treat UTSA & TS like smu treated us. We don't need them just because both have over 30,000 students and are in easy driving distance. We don't need their help to fill our stadium because we have WK, FIU, FA, etc. Plus who in their right mind would want to spend a weekend in San Antonio and watch UNT play in the Alamodome? Besides, I have a full tank of gas. Now exactly where is Troy?
  12. Why not have a half time Greek chariot race? Have them race wheelbarrows around the goal posts at each end of the field. Could be 3 laps with a new "horse and driver" change at each end. Might be funny and I bet it would get the Greeks and some other students into the stadium.
