  1. The collective team GPA was over 3.0 last semester which is the highest it's been since 1997. Congratulations and good work to all of the players and coaches. Managing school work and athletics is not easy and raising the GPA bar for the program is a great accomplishment. DMac also said that over 30 coaches have contacted him about the Special Teams position at North Texas. That's a good number - I hope we land a stud. 2. Why would we go to NBE when everyone is bailing?
  3. If the alliance were to happen we'd be in a much better situation than the Big East.
  4. Agree that NCAA needs to set better rules and follow them more accurately and ethically. Boise is one of the main schools holding BEAST football together right now...but the TV contract isn't going to be anywhere close to what they were promised. There's still a good chance that they pull out along with SJSU and further decrease the value of the conference. If that happens though, I imagine SMU, Houston, and other "old CUSA" schools will still scratch and claw to stay together as the BEAST conference. There's no way they're willing to deflate their egos a little bit and re-join a geographically relevant conference that would be better for their programs in the long haul.
  5. Hmm, I thought the Basketball schools needed to keep the name so that they could also keep the NCAA autobid?? Surely they aren't forming a brand new conference - wouldn't they lose out on a bunch of money if they did that?
  6. But the problem with that is the fact that the basketball schools are taking the Big East name. Therefore this combination of schools would have to create a new conference which means they wouldn't have the money or NCAA autobid...which means they probably wouldn't do that... Correct?
  7. True...but at the same time there have been so many changes happening that I think everyone is a little lost to some degree.
  8. So the most probable outcomes are one of these two: 1) BBall schools keep Big East name which forces the Football schools to join other conferences since they don't have the qualifications to compete in championships, etc. right away as a new conference. 2) BBall schools join a different existing conference and Football schools keep Big East name. The new BEAST then poaches more CUSA teams and essentially recreates CUSA 2.0 Hopefully number 1 happens. If it does then there are two probable options: 1) UH, SMU, Tulane, and UCF return to CUSA 2) UH, SMU, Tulane, UCF, Boise, and SJSU move to MWC I'm hoping that #1 happens...but imagine all of those schools will not want to return to the conference they left and will go to MWC. If that's the case, hopefully our current CUSA will stay in tact and MWC won't try to persuade Tulsa or anyone else to go. As much as I really want #1 to happen, I don't see SMU willing to be in a conference with us (even though it'd be good for both schools), and I especially don't see UCF wanting to be in a conference with FIU AND FAU (although those rivalries would also be great for all three). Are there any other likely outcomes from BBall schools splitting that I'm missing?
  9. WOAH! Didn't expect it to happen this soon. This is either going to be really good for CUSA or really bad for CUSA...let's hope it ends up being good.
  10. So if the BBall schools leave the Big East...football schools are basically screwed, right? They'd have to go elsewhere? Or do you think they'd actually stay and try to take more CUSA/MAC/WAC/MWC teams?
  11. Can CUSA raise the exit fee even more to discourage any other teams from leaving?
  12. Depth is also a good thing. You know - put more cans of corn in that "bare cupboard"
  13. If it stays like this I'm happy. I hope no one else leaves so we can develop some stability and quality rivalries in this conference!
  14. Harry, if you are the commissioner of CUSA - do you take them?
  15. Completely agree. Don't know why people are freaking out about these additions. I get it's not the "Old CUSA" but it's much better than where we were in the Sun Belt. Not to mention regional rivalries with the CUSA West will be a blast. Florida is a good state to have a yearly visit to for recruiting. Covers some pretty respectable TV markets. Basketball will be good. Etc. etc.
  16. Very valid point, Harry. With TV deals driving all of this and causing higher ups to dismiss logic, you've got to look at those numbers and consider the fact that CUSA could very well be in a better position than Beast.
