  1. Agree on the head coach having a defensive mindset versus an offensive one. It sets the tone for the entire team and it's attitude/approach. Look at Bama, USC, Oklahoma, TCU, Virginia Tech, Pitt to name a few (I would say Texas, but Mack's basically a figurehead, though they do pay their DC very well!)
  2. Anyone ever looked at Ellis Johnson from South Carolina?
  3. UNT Mean Green's BCS Predictions: CHAMPIONSIP: Alabama v. Texas FIESTA: Boise State v. Iowa SUGAR: Florida v. Cincy ROSE: Ohio State v. Oregon ORANGE: Georgia Tech v. TCU
  4. Turner is one that I'd love to get at UNT if the current coach is not longer with the program at some point.
  5. This ND put the cart before the horse a little bit?!? Unbelievably stupid move for their University.
  6. This is going to be a tough one for the beloved Mean Green. Army's offense is what everyone is familiar with, and it will give the NT defense problems unless the players commit to playing their assignments over and over again. However, their defense comes into this game ranked in the Top 15 in Total Defense in the country. That scares me just as bad as their offense.
  7. And, you tell me a 17/18 year old kid from the Southern part of the US who takes official visits to OU, FL, and ND is going to pick ND over the other two? No way. Have you been to South Bend? Kid goes on a visit to ND, there's no girls, the town sucks, it's freezing cold, and all the fans are grumbling about being 1-10 against ranked teams the last 4 years. Same kid goes on a visit to FL, there's beautiful southern girls everywhere, it's warm & sunny, there's a buzz in the crowd about going to 3 of the last 4 SEC title games. Kid goes to Norman, again the co-eds are hot, weather is good, and there's a positive vibe about the program. It's a no brainer, and don't think these coaches who lead these dominate southern programs do not see that either. In the end, it's about getting/recruiting elite defensive athletes in order to compete for a title every year, and Notre Dame is currently very far removed from being able to do that. That's why I say that the guys leading Boise State, Cincinnati, TCU, Central Michigan, etc. are better fits for that job.
  8. I've said it before, and will say it again. Bob Stoops is not leaving Oklahoma soon, unless all of a sudden he tanks that program. Notre Dame should look at the Chris Petersens, Brian Kelleys, and Gary Pattersons of the world (although if I were them, I certainly would not take the ND job). Shooting for Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops is a lost cause in my book. What does ND have over OU, Florida, and programs of that caliber? Absolutely nothing.
  9. Grounbreaking Flyer Hopefully the Mean Green Nation shows up in full effect to support this historic day in North Texas history!
  10. After attending the TCU-Utah game on Saturday night, I must say I came away very impressed with the Horned Frogs. They played like a complete football team, who was better prepared and played a tenacious brand of football in all 3 areas. The Frogs put a ton of pressure on Utah defensively, offensively, and even in the kicking game (blocked punt, big hits on KO, etc.) and that forced Utah (a very good football team by the way) into several bad situations and mistakes. I have personally seen Alabama, Texas, and TCU in person this year; and I do believe the Frogs can compete with any of the 3 teams ranked ahead of them, and at the very least give them a 4 quarter ballgame. I believe the Frogs can match up better with a spread style of Florida and Texas, than a run-you-over/hit-you-in-the-mouth style team in Alabama. I think Bama would wear TCU's offensive and defensive front(s) down over 60 minutes in a situation where TCU lacks the quality depth of the 3 teams ranked ahead of them. This is certainly not a knock on TCU, but a casual observation. It's obvious that the Horned Frogs belong in the conversation with these programs, and I think whoever the Horned Frogs play in a multimillion dollar BCS game had better be prepared for an all out dogfight. Patterson and his team will be ready to go and not intimidated, not matter who is on the other sideline. I wish TCU, Boise State, and Cincinnati the best of luck for the remainder of the season, as it's very neat to see these type of teams ranked as highly as they are.
  11. TFLF is right on about Stoops. The comparison of these two situations (OU v. UNT or Dodge & Stoops) is apples to something not even close to apples or oranges for that matter... Where would Stoops go for a new challenge? And if you're building a 3 million dollar estate in the Norman/OKC area, what are you going to do? Just up and leave for a 'new challenge'? Don't think so. I'd doubt if Stoops is nearly as concerned with Texas as you state Dozer. Both Texas and Oklahoma are elite national level programs (alongside Florida, Alabama, LSU, USC) and I don't think there's too much to worry about there.
  12. Amen, or how about Jim Harbaugh? Stanford's not looking too bad either, and he's overcoming the academic requirements out there. He's built an oustanding program and has a team with a physical swagger about them. They are fun to watch.
  13. I only wish that NT was in a position to be with the 10 other programs in the country for which Nike is making custom uniforms for in a large Marketing deal. Virginia Tech, Ohio State, LSU, Texas, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, and Missouri are elite programs in which TCU has come into the conversation with. It's incredible to see the Frogs this highly regarded on the college football map, and I think it's fantastic for that program. I just do not see why North Texas cannot get to that point some day. Was it not that long ago that TCU was terrible?
  14. Agree wholeheartedly TFLF. Tulsa uses Clay well, similar to what Florida does with Aaron Hernandez (despite being listed as a TE). This provides an extra blocker and another pass catching threat

  16. Got a call from the AD around 10:45 this morning stating that it is a done deal. Awesome news! Great work everyone involved.
  17. North Texas 31 Florida Atlantic 23 But really, all I wish for and ask for is for the Home team to have 1 more point than the Visiting team does tomorrow night around 10:00pm or so in Denton, TX.
  18. Good article on #5. I look forward to watching him in Green & White for many more games/years to come. He's exciting any time he has a the football in his hands. Could he be this year's version of T.Y. Hilton from FIU (who had a huge 2008 campagin) in the Sun Belt?
  19. I want to break-out peformances: #11 Riley Dodge to keep up this performance but minimize mistakes. I want us to break out of this negating good plays with stupid penalties.
  20. In watching that game last night, those 2 team's offenses looked like big time offenses to me from a play calling/scheme standpoint. I loved the misdirection that both offenses use instead of just standing back there throwing 5 yard hitch and slant routes all day. Not to mention, it seemed a lot easier for them to score in the green/redzone than it does for NT. I'm on board with getting the ACU coach or someone similar in here to call plays next season with all of the weapons and the caliber of players we'll have. That's not a knock on Ford, but just a fact of the matter in my book.
  21. Did anyone else notice Jeremy Bean on the JUCO All-region 2nd Team offense?
