  1. Apparently this is what happens when you are a football "power", you sit around whining about games that happened 20 years ago. http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95727 (I am purposefully forgetting the amount of time some of us spend harping on the 88 loss to UT)
  2. If you've got a pen and a lot of spare time I could write you a list. But, rather than bore you, let's approach it this way. Hit the gym for the next few months or so and then I've got a jock strap in this department you might just be able to carry. In the meantime tell me how your meetings with Dr. Bataille, RV, or various student groups have been going when you obviously took all of your brilliant ideas to them. Surely you wouldn't come on this board ranting and raving about change unless you were currently in the process or doing something about the problems you spell out so eloquently...would you?
  3. No, I'm right there with you. He's not the first and he's definitely not the last to try to "save" this program with his brilliant ideas. Like 99.9% of them, he too has spent all of his time in front of his keyboard and none of it on campus talking to those in power who could effect change. Just once I'd like to see a post that reads like this: "I think NT has x problem! Because x problem has been around for a while without any positive progress I propose that x be done. The following is what I personally plan to do to implement x brilliant idea. Who's with me?" This should be followed not too terribly long after by: "I implemented x plan and these are the results." So far all I ever see is "I think NT has x problem!"
  4. Here, I think I've got an idea that will make all of those who say we need a new tradition happy. One side of the stadium yells: THIS IS Then the other side yells: A TRADITION
  5. My expectations? 1)September hurry up and get here so the "traditions", "school spirit" and any other whiny threads will stop being posted by people whose reach far exceeds their grasp when it comes to actually doing something about it. 2)A respectable showing in every game except the OU and Ark ones. I know, I know, we should strive to be respectable in all of them but Todge is still working with DD's mess. I expect respectability and a plethora of wins next season. 3)Win over SMU 4)Increased attendance for an entertaining brand of football. 5)Continuation of our newfound "media darling" status. If these things come to pass I think we will be in very good shape.
  6. Here's a "tradition" I already participate in and I hope it catches on: STOP WHINING ABOUT TRADITIONS.
  7. Too many reasons to enunciate on this board for the millionth time.
  8. It seems the prevailing wisdom, even on this board, is that Todge will stick around for a few years...maybe 4 or 5...then run off to join the "big time" as OC or HC or UT or something like that. Here are a few questions I've had rattling around in my head: 1)Why is it out of the question that Todge sticks around to make this HIS program? Why couldn't he be our Joe Pa or Bobby Bowden? The conjecture is that the university will soon enough be giving him a new stadium to recruit to, he's bringing in higher quality athletes, and it's possible...yes possible...that our fan base may finally awaken and give him the kind of support we've deserved for a while. Why is it out of the realm of possibility that with the wins and increased fan support will come more money to keep his salary competitive and possibly even a better conference for him to recruit to. Honestly I've gotta think that with a CUSA slot, a new stadium and a salary in the 500-750k range he could stick around here and become our new "legend"* Those with a sports memory over 20 years old will recall when Bowden turned FSU from also ran to powerhouse. You think the "big boys" didn't come calling just a few times? And he stuck around to make himself synonomous with Seminole football. 2)When Todge walks into a recruits living room how can the following question not have come up..."Coach I'd love to play for you but will you even be around when I'm a Junior or Senior?" If he plans to jump ship soon how has he been selling NT to these early commits? Is it possible that he's been telling them "Come to Denton where we'll build something special TOGETHER." *Please Plumm and the rest of you take your heart medication. I know this school only has room for one "legendary" coach but I think Hayden will understand.
  9. Honestly this is one of the reasons people don't watch women's hoops. In overtime?
  10. From the phony board: So this is why SMUt hasn't secured any verbals. The state top 100 are just waiting to see if Phil Bennett sticks around so that they can decommit and go to the powerhouse that is SMUt. I can see the conversation now: PB- You're the best running back in the state. How about coming to SMU? Recruit- You know it's always been my dream to play for SMU, but I don't know if you're gonna be there next year coach. PB- Oh I will. I've been tanking for the last few years just to give my opponents false hope Trojan horse style. Recruit- Boy am I glad to hear that. I've had to hold off Mack Brown, Fran, Bob Stoops and half of the SEC. I verbaled to Texas Tech just so that I'd be sure to have a home. It's always been my intention to decommit and play for the ponies. If you're fired Philly (yeah, they're that close) I just don't know what I'd do! PB- Don't worry kid. We'll show them. We'll show them all!
  11. Not even close. Tom Hicks raises ticket prices without making any concerted effort to improve the product he puts on the field. The Rangers don't seriously try to go after any of the top pitching, continue to accumulate bats and make excuses for why they can't keep up in a division whose other teams are constantly trying to actively participate in the "arms race" going on in baseball. NT on the other hand? Well, all we've done is hire a coach who has given us more buzz than 4 conference titles, opened an entire complex for women's sports, given our fans a trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 2 decades, finally put forward in no uncertain terms that quality costs money and that NT plans to strive for better and brought in the makings (at least as of today) of a better recruiting class than most of CUSA, all of the WAC and all of the Sun Belt. Lest we forget, football is the cash cow and the money raised by football benefits the ENTIRE athletic program. We have to come to grips with the fact that if we want to sit at the grown up table and not the kiddy table we have to nut up and pay for the better food.
  12. Bingo. Lest anyone forget Riley had a scholarship offer from the ponies. Don't think that 99.9% of this venom they're spewing doesn't have to do with the fact that a kid they wanted, who just happens to bring with him press and buzz in their backyard, signed with the Mean Green. If Riley had orally committed to SMU he'd be predicted on phony fans as a 4-time Heisman candidate who was coming to resurrect them from the dead. (pun intended)
  13. I think we're all forgetting a few things in this discussion. 1)Spring was almost exclusively committed to a few very important things. Figuring out what we had in our QB's...which necessitated a heavy concentration on the running game. And installing a new offense where the forward pass is legal. That, again, necessitated concentrating heavily on the passing game because it is much harder to pick up that the running portion of the offense. 2)Todd Dodge's "spread" for the millionth time is not the Mike Leach offense, if anything I'd say it's closer to the Rich Rodriguez one. If the other team excels at taking away the run we will bomb them to death. If their front seven is their weakness J-Mo will see a heavy workload that Saturday. Will he hit 1800 yards again? Probably not but I don't think 1000 is out of the question.
  14. Now THAT would look great on a helmet.
  15. I already made this mistake once. The beating of my head into a wall afterwards hurt too much for me to continue.
  16. So RV is a megalomaniac....so what? I'm not agreeing that he is but, if he is, so is Mark Cuban, Jerry Buss, Sean Combs, the list goes on and on. The common thread? Their egos drive them to be the best and stay at the top.
  17. Obviously you never met Craig Helwig Quoner or you'd know just how right you are.
  18. I just think he's scared Tre Newton will put Danny Meager even lower on the RB depth when he is inevitably moved there.
  19. Are they trying to figure out how to justify dropping him a star?
  20. And if he doesn't fall in love with North Texas he'll surely fall in love with the North Texas women. They're not too bad are they Switzer?
  21. Bumped just so EVERY thread on the front page won't be about Rodge.
  22. Exactly. Todge doesn't strike me as the type of coach to "hand" anything to anybody. He wants to win and he'll do what it takes to win.
