  1. It does suck for the young man, and I hope he bounces back on his feet. However, we need LBs that are going to be able to play right away. Did you guys like being rated last in total defense last year?
  2. He was a Safety for us. Yes, still on the 2023 roster.
  3. At the moment we have 30 plus open spots. That's kind of exciting. We have these guys on the staff with strong connections to the area. Let's see how it shakes out. Best of luck to the guys leaving, we can find replacements in the portal and juco ranks. Notice a pattern with the guys leaving? Ayo Adeyi (Transfered here from a D3 school) Isaiah Johnson (Littrell signed him out of HS) Logan Wilson ( 3rd time to transfer. He played at Kansas State and ULM before here.) Stone Earle ( Transfer from ACU) Ja'Mori Maclin (Transfer from Missouri) Ethan Miner (Transfer from Arkansas State)
  4. He was a walk on. With multiple 7 figure deals.
  5. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Season/2024-Football/TransferPortal/?institutionkey=24114 Current Portal: Ayo Adeyi Isaiah Johnson Logan Wilson Stone Earle Ja'Mori Maclin Ethan Miner
  6. I sent a note to the staff, so it's at least on their radar. I know they have multiple people monitoring the portal activity.
  7. Weird, Arkansas OL coach just accepted the Miss State OL job. https://footballscoop.com/news/sources-jeff-lebby-mississippi-state-set-to-acquire-major-sec-assistant-coach
  8. Pro Football Focus, an analytics company that grades players each week.
  9. @TheReal_jayD had a good post on the Patreon account about the stats as well. It included the amount of snaps these guys had and also their PFF grades for the year.
  10. Back on the market in the transfer portal. Would be a perfect fit for the 3-3-5.
  11. Stone Earle hit the portal today. Best of luck to him! He has the talent to play QB. I could see him doing really well at an FCS school.
  12. The 2023 class brought a lot of production this past season. We found our star QB, 2 productive WRs, a solid starting Center (too bad he is transferring), an All Conference Kicker, multiple starting DBs, a rotational DT, and 2 rotational OL. 8 of the Freshman didn't play over 4 games, therefore they will take a redshirt this season. We had 4 JUCO players that signed late with us, and 2 of them played on special teams. While the other 2 could potentially take redshirts as well. Only 1 player didn't make it on campus, and by the looks of the secondary guys we added, it was not that big of a loss. Considering the time that Morris had to build this class, I would say it was pretty solid overall. Without further ado, here is the production from the 2023 signing class. I hope you enjoy reading it. 2023 North Texas Football Signees Production: Marcus Moore-Coffeyville C.C. (The Colony, TX) Defensive Line 6-1 / 295 Stats: 17 Tackles (9 solo) 1 FF Marcus played in 11 games for the defense. He was in the rotation on the DL and played a lot of snaps for the defense. This turned out to be a decent signing, and I am hopeful he has even more production next year. Landon Sides-Guyer (Denton, TX) Wide Receiver 6-0 / 180 Stats: 30 rec 363 yards 4 TD Landon played in 11 games for the offense. He had a very impressive season for a true freshman WR. Landon was a starter shortly after the season began. With the loss of Maclin to the portal, I anticipate him having an even better season next year. This was a great signing. Larry Moore-Fort Bend Marshall (Missouri City, TX) Texas Tech Offensive Tackle 6-5/ 275 Larry played in all 12 games for the Mean Green and was listed as the backup RT. I noticed that he switched jersey numbers throughout the game to contribute on special teams. Over the last few games, he had more snaps with the offense. If he continues to develop, he could be a starter for us next year. Phil Hill-Klein Collins (Spring, TX) UNLV Safety 6-0 / 183 Stats: 43 Tackles (24 solo) 3 INT Phil played in 11 games for the defense and was a starter. He did end up getting hurt late in the year, but he had a solid year in the secondary. Phil had 3 INTs for the defense and recovered 1 fumble. I was impressed with how he came downhill and made tackles over the season. I look forward to seeing him be a solid starter next year as well. Trey Cleveland-Arlington (Arlington, TX) Texas Tech Wide Receiver 6-3 / 175 Stats: 27 rec 415 yards 3 TD Trey played in all 12 games for the Mean Green and was listed as a starting WR. He was our 4th leading receiver. There were moments throughout the year when Trey made great catches. However, there were a few drops that really hurt his production. Overall, he did a decent job for us. Similar to Landon, I anticipate him having a better year next year with the loss of Maclin. Paula Vaipulu-Channelview (Channelview, TX) Georgia Tech Interior Offensive Lineman 6-3 / 305 Paula played in 11 games as a rotational OG for us this year. He was listed as a backup RG at the end of the season. I anticipate him fighting for more playing time next year. While he didn’t start like we wanted, he did add valuable depth to the OL. Chandler Rogers-Lake Ridge (Mansfield, TX) University of Louisiana Monroe Quarterback 6-0 / 194 Stats: 262 comp-462 att 62% completion 3383 Yds 29 TD 5 INT 109 rushes 439 gained (180 net) 4 TDs Chandler Rogers was arguably the best player in this class. He played in all 12 games and started 10 for us. He was recently screwed over and didn’t receive any all-conference awards even though he had better numbers than the first team QB. Chandler is the best QB we have had since Mason Fine. He is poised in the pocket and doesn’t make many mistakes. I am excited for his future here, and we need to make sure the collectives take care of him. If he continues to put these numbers up, he could play at the next level. Evan Jackson-North Shore (Houston, TX) Safety 5-10 / 170 Stats: 27 Tackles (20 solo) 1 INT 3 PBU Evan played in all 12 games for the defense. He was a rotational starter in the secondary. I was impressed with his play throughout the season. Evan turned out to be another great addition for the defense. I look forward to him getting better and playing more next year. Jayven Anderson-North Shore (Houston, TX) Safety 6-0 / 205 Stats: 30 Tackles (21 solo) Jayven was the highest defensive recruit that we have signed in the modern era. Jayven played in 10 games for the defense. He was a rotational starter in the secondary. I was impressed with his play throughout the season. Jayven should be a key contributor on the defense next season. Ethan Miner-Kingswood-Oxford School (West Hartford, CT) Arkansas State Center 6-2.5 / 283 Ethan started 12 games for the OL at Center this year. He was our highest ranked lineman per PFF. The only knock on Ethan is that he recently entered the transfer portal. I assume that Paula or Jett Duncan will replace him next year. Noah Rauschenberg-Union (Tulsa, OK) Baylor Kicker 6-2 / 185 Noah was a weapon for us this year. He consistently had touchbacks on kickoffs 71 out of 78 and was 16-19 on FGs with a long of 49 yards. Noah was recently named 3rd team All Conference AAC Kicker. His production will be missed next season. Late JUCO Signees: Josh Smith- College of the Canyons Santa Clarita, California (Tampa, Fl) TE 6’0/234 Never played, not sure if he is eligible for a redshirt. I know he joined the team late, and Coach Morris mentioned it was taking him time to learn the playbook. Chavez Brown- Butler CC, (Houma, LA) LB 6’1 224 Played in 10 games primarily on special teams. Recorded 1 sack for us on defense. CJ Garnett- Blinn College (Keller, Tx) LB 6’0 220 Played in 11 games primarily on special teams. CJ was listed as backup WLB. He recorded 1 tackle during his time on the field. Rodney Green Jr.- Hutchinson CC (Philadelphia, PA) DL 6’3 260 Played in 1 game, not sure if he is eligible for a redshirt. Redshirt Candidates: Brian Nelson-Shadow Creek (Pearland, TX) Cornerback 6-0 /181 Stats: 4 Tackles (2 solo) 3 PBU Redshirt candidate, played in 4 games. Brian had a really good game against Tulsa. While he will redshirt this year, he should be in the rotation for playing time next year. I think he will be really good down the road for us. Dietrich Moore-Broken Arrow (Broken Arrow, OK) Linebacker 6-0 / 205 Redshirt candidate, never saw the field. Desmond Magiya-McKinney (McKinney, TX) Offensive Tackle 6-4 / 270 Redshirt candidate, played in 2 games. Isaac Sohn-Aledo (Aledo, TX) Offensive Tackle 6-5 / 280 Redshirt candidate, never saw the field. Matthew Moore -Ellison (Killen, TX) Linebacker 6-2 / 210 Redshirt candidate, never saw the field. However, Matthew was listed as backup WLB during the final game. Kollin Lewis-Gladewater (Gladewater, TX) Defensive Back / Wide Receiver 5-11 / 170 Redshirt candidate, played in 3 games. He did have 1 tackle for us. Keith Smith-South Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX) Defensive Line 6-2 / 255 Redshirt candidate, never saw the field. Taylor Starling-South Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX) Cornerback 5-10.5 / 170 Redshirt candidate, played in 4 games. He did have 1 tackle for us. Never Made it on Campus: Damon Youngblood-McKinney (McKinney, TX) University of Louisiana Lafayette Safety 5-10 / 180 2023 UNT Signees Production.docx
  13. Interesting data, thanks for sharing.
  14. Alright, when I posted this update after the first week of the season, it ruffled some feathers. Disclaimer: I do not wish any ill will to any of the players that transferred. Ok, I lied, if you transferred to SMU, kick rocks. I am thankful for their contributions while wearing green here. Now to answer the question, is the grass greener on the other side? No, but the dollar bills are. It seems all of our former players played this year, however the majority had a big drop off in production. I know they all received money to leave here. However, some were paid to just stand on the sidelines to watch their teams play. If you love money more than playing, then I guess you could say it was a success. Only 1 transfer is playing for a conference championship game this weekend. It looks like 5 of the transfers will get to play in bowl games. While 2 of the transfers will have new OCs next year (so 3 in 3 years). I think we can all agree that the transfer portal is an interesting experiment that is screwing us G5 schools over. Jake Roberts 23 catches 231 yards 1 TD (Baylor 3-9) Jake played meaningful snaps in every game for the Baylor Bears. While he had success, his team did not. His OC was recently fired, so I am not sure how this will affect his role next year. Our TEs didn't have a lot of receptions this year, however I imagine he would have put up similar stats if he stayed. Jyaire Shorter 1 rec 10 yards stats (Auburn 6-6) Jyaire went from being a TD machine at North Texas to barely contributing at Auburn. While he did play in 7 games, he only had 1 catch against FCS Stamford. Larry Nixon III 49 tackles (28 solo) (Auburn 6-6) Larry was a solid LB for us and appeared to have a decent year in the SEC. He played in all 12 games and was Auburn's second leading tackler. I am glad to see that he had success at that level. I hope the move elevated his status to play in the NFL or XFL. This move seemed to benefit him. Var'Keyes Gumms 3 rec 26 yards (Arkansas 4-8) Var'Keyes was a young rising star for us on last years squad. He had 458 yards receiving and 5 TDs. However, he didn't have this type of production in the Dan Enos offense at Arkansas. To be fair, the Arkansas offense was non-existent this year and Dan Enos lost his job as a result. I am interested to see how he plays in the Bobby Petrino (hide the motorcycles and administrative assistants) offense next year. Var'Keyes did play in 11 games for the Razorbacks this year. Asher Alberding 1 rec 5 yards 4 tackles (1 solo) (Cal 6-6) Asher was a solid blocking TE for us, and it appears he continued to do that at Cal. While his production didn't light up the stat sheet, he was a solid contributor for the Cal Bears this season. He played in every game and helped them achieve bowl eligibility. Cameron Robertson 17 tackles 5.5 TFL 4 Sacks (SMU 10-2) Cameron had a good freshman season here and it was a shock when he transferred. I am not sure if it was due to a fit in the 3-3-5 or the NIL money that SMU was offering. Cameron played in all 12 for that damn team in Dallas. He put up meaningful snaps and I hope they never win another game. Sorry kid, you are the one exception. We hate SMU here. DeShawn Gaddie Jr. 9 tackles (5 solo) 0 INT 3 PBU (Ole Miss 10-2) DeShawn was a shut down corner for us, and we were all sad when he transferred to Ole Miss. While he didn't put up the stats that he did at UNT, he did appear in every game for the Ole Miss Rebels. His team had a good year, but he did not play as much as he did here in Denton. There was a lot of hype when he transferred to Ole Miss, but it doesn't seem he lived up to those expectations.
  15. If you're apathetic to winning there is no shame. This sucks, and it pisses me off. We should have never lost to FIU or Navy. Time to hit the portal and forget this season (plus every other losing season) happened.
  16. Back to our regular scheduled programming. Ethan Miner just hit the portal. Big loss for the OL. I guess the CT boy didn't like playing down here. It sucks to lose him. https://twitter.com/Cratoss67/status/1729522912028221618
  17. Number 91 on the roster. I think he was a candidate for a redshirt.
  18. No, never in the two deep. Seemed like a good kid, but he might need to go FCS or D2 for playing time.
  19. Not a good day to be named Dana. UTEP just fired Dana Dimel.
  20. He's the ultimate team player and a great representation of the university. I hope we can find a few more guys like this in the portal this off-season. Best of luck Mazin!
  21. So are Oscar Adaway, Isaiah Johnson, Christian Lee, Nick Nakwassah, and Kaghen Roach hitting the portal? I think they are all listed as juniors on the roster.
