  1. he definitely talked about defense. Said his defense would fly around, swarm the ball, be aggressive and pressure the quarterback. Also talked about special teams. He sees special teams as (paraphrasing here) another offensive opportunity. Tells me he likes to be aggressive in special teams as well.....
  2. I would rank my "concerned meter" at somewhere between I don't care and when did basketball season start?
  3. I'll go with a totally selfish prediction UNC's offense puts up massive numbers scores 50 points and they lose 51-50 as Littrell gets to Denton Sunday morning and starts to work here.
  4. Maybe we just need to see if we can turn Apogee into a baseball stadium. Put all the money into basketball and baseball and be good at something. .....under new leadership of course
  5. Both are experienced, familiar with Texas, offensive minded coaches with proven results. Can't really complain about either one.
  6. that's a helluva program our AD is in charge of. From top to bottom.....what a well oiled machine.
  7. You know...... That actually makes a lot of sense. We live in a hotbed of recruiting but we also live in a hotbed of competition for those recruits and we've proven time and time again that we've never been able to win those battles. So get off that battle field and go to one less crowded. If everyone runs some variation of the spread and is fighting all over themselves to recruit talent to run the spread, do we want to be one of 20, 30, 40 + all after the same type of athlete or do we want to be one of a few after a different type of athlete that others may not be looking for. I get the logic.....it might just work
  8. I don't know why people think it's easy to recruit to Baylor. Maybe it's easier now but they had to start somewhere to get the talent in there to get to where they are now. That guy is the Big 12 recruiter of the year in a conference with UT, OU, OSU, and other programs that have had a much easier situation to recruit to than Baylor. We need TALENT. And a system that can take advantage of that talent. Kendall Briles would bring both. For those that are afraid he would only be here for 3 years......we should only hope so because that means our program's arrow is undoubtably pointed UP.
  9. Good post Harry. The concern I have though is our AD. If I'm a hot stuff up and coming coach.....everything you listed looks great. But how interested am I in a job where the AD could be gone in at most 18 months and the fan base is really unhappy with him anyway. I'm gonna think twice before I take a job that could be gone in less than 2 years when the potential new AD comes in and brings his own coach. On the flip side, how great would it be to come in with a new AD + all the things you listed...
  10. I see Dale Hanson taking the attitude of: "UNT has a new stadium. They should be thankful. Who do they think they are? They shouldn't expect anything better than that" That is an attitude that is prevalent toward UNT and a big problem. It's also an attitude that keeps RV's big pay check coming. How dare little UNT expect anything better.
  11. And THAT is how you begin to shape the narrative. Well played UNT Athletics. (Unless I'm giving you too much credit) And yes, I guess Vito got his parking pass. Thank you Brett for telling all the fans how lucky we are to have RV and the 17. Also a perfectly timed article with the banner coming. Basically, thank goodness he and the 17 have been here this whole time to give us all these great things. It's painfully obvious, Rick Villarreal isn't going anywhere.
  12. I agree Harry. If Briles came here and was successful, he would only be here for 3-4 years. Which is perfect. For those that say he's gonna wait for the Baylor job when Daddy retires, he still can. Why not make some extra $ and get the coaching resume improved. All I would want from him is to stock the team with talent for the next coach.
  13. 28-72 I'll bet many (including media) have no idea of that record. All they know is, "hey they have a nice stadium, the AD must be doing something right" What I would like to see after the banner flies is an article showing the record and how our fund raising compares to other schools in our conference. People that think RV is doing a good job think so because their point of view is soley based on the history of UNT. "They're doing really well compared to what they used to be" THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH ANYMORE If it is, drop down because others with a less attractive situation than UNT are figuring it out Say what you want about the banner, I just hope it brings public awareness to what's really going on. Don't forget, more "civilized" methods were tried. Private letters, emails and calls. Guess what. They weren't private for long, telling me that the President isn't taking these seriously. Then the AD goes on this ridiculous butt covering media tour, actually defending his record with a straight face 28-72 28-72! Our athletic director says he'll put that record against anyone. Make no mistake fans, UNT does not take you seriously.
  14. Yeah but they are at home and that usually counts as 3 points...so it's really like 26.
  15. RV's quotes in that article are so unbelieveable ridiculous, it's almost like that article is fake. I don't even know what to say....
  16. Yeah.....I didn't renew this year. For the first time in 15 years I haven't been glued to everything UNT athletics. I was holding out hope that I could be turned around once again but I just can't take this guy anymore. This is what I think the conversation between RV and the President is like: Prez: "rick I'm getting some pretty angry letters, what's going on? Rv: "Neil don't worry about those, they're just some fans on an Internet board, they don't give enough $. Remember my friends I introduced you to and the $ I just brought in. They'll die down or go away. Doesn't matter. The money guys are still with me." Prez: "Ok, carry on" I'm not a big donor. I'm a multi year season ticket holder, mg club member and club seat owner. I went away this year and I feel like a weight has been lifted. I've enjoyed watching college football. My wife is a Baylor grad so I've enjoyed following them. I left. Others like me are leaving. And they DONT GIVE A DAMN. So who cares. So good riddance UNT. You can have Rick Villarreal. You don't need me.
  17. So in CBL's scenario, I guess the question the Prez would have to ask (as it solely relates to fund raising): Does the current money he believes being raised by RV and any future money he thinks RV can raise outweigh any potential money a new AD could raise? Are we leaving money on the table with RV running this department? If he left would the 17 leave? Would 8 of them leave and 9 stay? Could we replace those 17 with 34? Or replace those 17 with 1 that could make up for the 17? It's a little bit of the devil you know vs don't know.
  18. It's the best offense I have ever seen. It's beyond "spread" (which I'm not a HUGE spread offense fan. I really hate the Mike Leach/TTech variation of it) How they get so vertical is beyond me.... But the balance is what is so great to watch. They're not a throw it 60 times offense, they're so good at running the ball. I love watching it I don't know if Kendall is interested in the HC job or not but if he brought that offense here with his recruiting talent in he middle of DFW, CUSA could not contend with us
  19. I see a lot of talk about Chico's recruiting. How much freedom do assistants have in recruiting? I absolutely think McCarney handcuffed the offense. If he'll handcuff the offense, why wouldn't he handcuff the recruiting to players that he thinks will fit his offense? I also see a lot about QB development falling under Chico. They brought in fairly well thought of jucos and another raw but talented kid. How much of a chance was Chico given to develop these QBs if McCarney kept shoving McNulty down his throat? Whats the first thing Chico did when it was only his decision? He pulled McNulty and started Smith. I don't know if I'm totally bought in on Chico but I do wonder what he'll do some day when he has his own program.....
  20. Seems to me, it will take getting over our past and finally NOT accepting that nice facilities and more students in green on campus is the best UNT can ever hope for. Or maybe it will take less lunch dates or drinks with the AD. but I'm just guessing here.
  21. I don't know if we can beat anyone with this defense....
  22. Obviously he was a little hyper.... But I don't know if I've seen a UNT QB with an arm like his. He has a rocket. I like him running the ball too. If he settles down, he could be fun to watch. (Edit--he was fun to watch.....but could be really special if he settles down)
