  1. Speaking of the OL, has anyone heard anything about Kirby maybe getting back on the horse? He originally said he was taking a leave of absence, and if he returned ready to go in 2 months, I would feel much better about the core of our OL. I certainly sympathize with him, but his return could possibly move our major OL concerns to the tackle positions.
  2. I agree with most of the above. I think the whole season hinges on our getting off to a good start (2-1 going to Rice), and if we could somehow pull off that game, i could see us building momentum and having a pretty decent season. Of course I have always been partial to green Koolaid.
  3. If we were Baylor or smu, we could just give him a disguise along with Sir Calvin's jersey and hope for the best.
  4. Obviously another lie concocted by Baylor. They're just not very good liars.
  5. And let us not forget about the several thousand Italian Americans who were interned, surveilled, or otherwise abused in a variety of ways during that war, and unlike the Japanese, they didn't even receive any reparations. Of course we cannot forget the abuse and discrimination that the Irish were subjected to both in the UK and the US for generations. Let's not even get into Jew abuse, Catholic abuse, Protestant abuse, Muslim abuse or the abuse of females across the world since the beginning of time. I guess every White male with an English surname owes reparations to everyone on the planet. But wait, the Romans enslaved the British for generations, so maybe they are the root of all evil? I guess we could also get into racial statistics on violent crime rates, but anyone who did that would be accused of being Donald Trump. Bottom line? I guess everyone owes apologies and reparations to everyone.
  6. Other than a few purchases and such (Alaska etc.), how many borders in the world weren't settled by violence or the threat of violence? That's just the way things were and still are if you ask Ukrainians. Mexico themselves have been accused of bullying Guatemala into ceding lands, and they are even working on the idea of a fenced in southern border a la Donald Trump. I agree that a full wall won't happen short of a nuclear smuggle-in that puts the country in full panic mode. I've paddled the majority of the Rio Grande border area, and the topography and such would make it very difficult in Texas. What do you do with places like Lake Amistad, Falcon Lake, Big Bend? Build a fence down the middle of the lakes and cut off the national park from the river? I can see adding more fencing in Texas and maybe building a solid fence in the desert from El Paso through NM and AZ to San Diego, but I suspect that it would be pretty high maintenance no matter how you do it. It would no doubt slow the flow, but I suspect that Texas would end up getting the bulk of the remaining migration and smuggling through weak points including the Gulf Coast. Expensive serious militarization of the border area is not a very appetizing thought, but that's probably about the only thing that would work. The profit and freedom motives are just too strong.
  7. We played them at home in this century a few years ago (don't recall the year) and they brought a really nice crowd. That was only because they had a bowl game in Ft. Worth the following day. Wish we would schedule them more.
  8. Houston should be our rival, since we have some similarities despite the fact that we're not an inner city school. Wins might be harder to come by, but I probably would have preferred a long term series with Houston over smu. I suspect that we have more alumni down there than Houston has in DFW.
  9. And the fact that replacing a Baylor coach with an SMU coach would look like replacing one cheater with another.
  10. I don't want anyone's dirty laundry.
  11. Unfortunately, it's probably going to take a year or two before we can even start speculating as to whether or not our new AD is going to be outstanding. It has pretty much been that way since at least the old days when the head FB coach was also generally the AD. Of course a knockout basketball hire and a baseball program could speed up that evaluation process considerably. I still haven't heard a lot of names thrown around out there that overly impress me.
  12. I say fill up The Wing any way you can fill it up. Free tickets may not bring a lot of them back as paying customers, but a full Wing can help improve the overall game experience environment for those who actually pay, and it might help influence those paying customers to return with friends for future games. That empty Wing is depressing and looks bush league both in person and on TV. Not to mention that a nice loud crowd can help increase our odds of winning close games.
  13. I just posted on the football board that I doubt a change will occur at this point, but you're no doubt right in your thoughts that the new AD will open up a whole new frontier. We're definitely in a time of change and we shall see.
  14. I'm definitely not going to come out and say that I want Benford for another year, but as we hit June does it really make sense at this point to NOW make a change at the top? If we have someone really special lined up I say great, but if that's not the case, I just don't see it happening unless some serious new negatives are going on behind the scenes. A quality X & O's assistant to come in and try to fix some of the stuff that has been going on out there during the Benford era would be a welcome relief.
  15. It could become the next Lakewood Church equivalent location, since they can easily run their upcoming D2 team out of a field somewhere. Coincidental that they just finished demolishing Floyd Casey Stadium last week? The curse of old Floyd strikes back. I'd say that the curse of old Theron is why we keep Fouts alive, but he probably thinks we've been cursed enough as it is.
  16. I guess they could sneak in before games and over inflate our balls.
  17. I bet 3-1 coming home against Middle would bring up the enthusiasm for all of us in a heartbeat. Of course that's all in Seth's hands at this point. Never hurts to dream.
  18. Hey, at least you're getting close to the truth Laurie. Keep working at it and maybe you'll get there.
  19. Ah, an ultra left wing hater who thinks that EVERYTHING from the past was wrong and must be changed at all costs just for the sake of change. Your game is as crystal as your ball. Lighten up.
  20. Probably a little on the aged side to take on an entirely new gig. Besides, we all know what sideline he would be on next fall in Gainesville.
