Houston won the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes.

Oakland gets Octavio Dotel, and Kansas City gets a lot of prospects.

This sucks for the Rangers because now the A's actually have a closer, and will make winning the West that much tougher. The Rangers will also get a first look at Beltran in a Stros uniform this weekend.

pretty big news for the Astros here in Houston though. Now we have a pretty solid outfield with Berkman, Biggio, and Beltran. But oviously the Astros need to start winning to at least get into the playoffs, or this trade will turn into a waste, because the Astros probably won't be able to afford Beltran this offseason. At least thankfully Beltran didn't go to the Evil Empire. cool.gif

....and for us older Houston Colt .45/Astros fans, whatever happened to Bob Aspromonte, Bob Lillis, John Bateman, Jimmy (The Toy Cannon) Wynn, etc, etc, etc ? How many hours did we all spend listening to Gene Elston and Loel Passe on the Houston Astros radio network?smile.gif

As a kid, one of my school friend's mother once took us out to old Colt Stadium (pre-Astrodome) to watch the Colt .45's take on the St. Louis Cardinals on "Stan Musial Day" in an afternooon businessman's special game. It was "Stan the Man's" last year and he was getting honored everywhere thoughout the National League.

What a day! I can still see the stance and the sweet swing of the bat by the great Stan Musial. Those were the days when baseball players played because they loved baseball, not because of how high on the list of America's Rich & Famous they could climb.

What great memories I have as a kid growing up in the Houston area.
