  1. This make sense. We (UNT) need to be proactive and realistic and try and force CUSA to come up with a survival plan. A CUSA merger with the Sun Belt and dividing the teams in East/West divisions could dramatically cut down on cost. If the AAC loses teams they will have the pick of other G5 conferences and who knows where that will lead as they are probably more interested in MWC schools than CUSA, Belt, or MAC schools. If the eastern CUSA teams decide to go the route of the MAC or Belt, the Texas schools might be left with few choices. If SMU does not move up we are not going to the AAC. Perhaps UNT and UTSA should make a package deal and approach the MWC. We might hate UTSA but they have a large potential market. Not sure how UTEP and NMSU survive this and stay in FBS. They have both been trying to get in the MWC conference for years and there has been no interest.
  2. Why are people against a merger? Conferences could regionalize and greatly reduce cost?
  3. All the AAC did by going public this soon was to make sure the B12 would contact the schools it was interested in ASAP. Either a stupid move, or a well planed move to get the B12 to take some of their teams and Aresco wants to be the next B12 commissioner
  4. After the next right there will be little to no TV tights for G schools as it will go more and more to streaming. G5 schools need to work together to regionalize and reduce or they will fail (or force more fees on to students)
  5. Nope, there needs to be a win or two on the schedule. You would think most of the 2nd level SEC teams will be looking for OOC games they fill they can win to get to 6
  6. Time for the Belt and CUSA to merge?
  7. If Clemson and Ohio State were to agree how quickly would ND be on the phone?
  8. Cody Fajardo, who is entrenched as the starting quarterback, completed six of nine pass attempts for 56 yards and was intercepted by Marshall, according to unofficial statistics tabulated by the Leader-Post. Isaac Harker was good on five of eight pass for 48 yards. Paxton Lynch, a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos, completed seven of 10 passes for 67 yards and was intercepted by Harris. Mason Fine was good on six of 10 pass attempts for 48 yards. Tom Flacco connected of four of six passes for 29 yards and was intercepted by Gates.
  9. What's the saying about "if you throw enough money at an issue"? These two schools are prime examples
  10. So your saying we should not expect any SMU players to get NIL agreements with escort services?
  11. Agree - The exception for any rule is SMUt
  12. https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/faa-jeff-bezos-not-astronaut-new-criteria Wonder if they will go back and reclassify NASA astronauts who do not meet the new criteria 😈
  13. Could not agree more. Said it before - Biggest wasted opportunity at NT since Fry
  14. As they say, times change and we must adapt. Recent "advances" NIL - No problem with players earning money, but this is already turning into paying players Expended Playoffs - Several high-level programs complaining Conference realignment season Is the time right for 30+ (could be as few as 22-24 teams) teams to break away and for a start a fully paid league? Salary caps - Set minimum spending limits on players and facilities No Classes required in the Fall (Stop acting like education players is a priority) Able to openly recruit players for non-PCFL teams They might look at this as something they should do before the NFL, or another league, starts a league where players can come right out of HS and get paid - Like https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/04/sports/basketball/overtime-league-high-school-pay.html ?
  15. When the initial frenzy passes, there are going to be issues. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/31869600/ohio-state-buckeyes-coach-ryan-day-says-nil-money-spread-players
  16. I would think the first 4 choices (in some order) BYU-UCF-CINCINNATTI-UH Could the B12 try and go to 16? Add the four above plus maybe SF-MEMPHIS-SMU
  17. One of the sites talked about the SEC going to four 4 team quads - One of the options A&M ARK OU UT
  18. At the end of the day, what might hurt SMU the most is the concern they can pay more for players than the rest of the B12 schools with Texas and OU out
  19. Will the other P5 conferences try to expand? Could it end up with four 16 team conferences and ND?
  20. It never ceases to amaze me how many on here want to see so many other schools fail or be "knocked-down" and complaining about how they don't deserve to be in "X" conference or the ongoing UNT should be in a P5 conference (even though until recently we had 40+ years of administrations and alums who didn't care about athletics). I can understand the desire for UNT to improve, but I the obsession and hatred for other schools and constantly worrying and complaining about them is strange. Truth be told, we would love to be in SMU's place, or Baylor. If we were in A&M's place we would be doing the same thing they are (PS - Texas is the one who has refused to paly them in football)
  21. 1 - Is Texas willing to give up the Longhorn Network and let it be absorbed by the SEC Network? 2 - If A&M could block Texas, would OU still go?
  22. Fairly sure if we went back a few years there were the same comments about how we had to get out of the Sun Belt? How about we focus on improving the programs and stop trying to move.
