  1. I'm sorry I'm so ignorant... http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/217799/20110921/oklahoma-big-12-pac-12-david-boren.htm http://chickashanews.com/sports/x1126803829/OU-fans-react-to-Big-12-decision
  2. Yeah, I get it. I just didn't realize those schools pulled so poorly. I really have no idea how big college football is in places like Massachusetts I guess. I also thought the Big XII was the definition of market overlap, but I guess college football just draws much better here.
  3. What on earth are you talking about? Oklahama is a small market. The metroplex alone is about 75% larger than the entire state of Oklahoma. I'm not sure what profitability or football success has to do with the size of the market. I never said they didn't make a lot of money, but I don't think they bring a whole lot from a "National" TV perspective. Note that the PAC-12 rejected OU because they didn't bring enough value (at least not enough to justify bringing OSU along). I think that is pretty good empirical evidence of what value OU brings to a national television deal.
  4. Wow. I didn't realize the Big 12 had a much bigger TV deal than the ACC. Surprising since the ACC covers a much larger population.
  5. Bogus. There is no reason for teams to leave the ACC for the Big XII. True, the football is much better in the Big XII, but the ACC markets are much much better. The Big XII has UT and that is, from a $ perspective, the only big player it has. UT is doing okay for itself so has no reason to leave, but I see no reason for ACC schools to join a bunch of small market teams. Remember, this is all about $$$, not sports...
  6. Soo... if by chance the Alliance isn't dead this gets it to 24 teams. I assume that means 4 6-team pods. Anyone want to take a guess on how that would shake out?
  7. You know...I'm not saying we should do this..but the big market teams from the MWC and CUSA could ditch their respective leagues and reform in the WAC. That way you could have the television $ of the Alliance with a smaller number of schools. You'd be stuck with Idaho and NMSU, but UNT, UTEP, UTSA, Colorado State, Fresno State, UNLV, Utah State, Rice, Air Force, FIU, Tulane, Marshall, and ECU would all bring some decent markets in theory. Small market schools like Wyoming, Nevada, Louisiana Tech, and UAB could effectively be dropped. Again, not saying I would like to do this, but just food for thought.
  8. RV, this is the way to increase attendence. MeanGreenTeeth's Coaching Nominees: Taylor Lilley - Meghan Gardler Kathleen Nash
  9. It'd be a tough call to be in his position. I'd probably wait another year if I had good odds to be a top 5 pick, but the thought of injury would weigh heavy on my mind.
  10. So how do the guarantees work in the NBA? What would the difference likely be if he were a mid 1st round pick next year?
  11. Yeah, I dunno. The SOW uniform looks a little...how can I put this delicately? Brian Boitano..ey
  12. What do you mean?!?!? This has nothing to do with turning up our nose on anyone. I have nothing against UTSA or TxState. It has nothing, nothing, nothing, to do with them. All I care about it what is good for UNT. Having to compete against 2 more Texas schools for recruits and attention is NOT GOOD FOR UNT..period. It has nothing to do with vanity. It has nothing to do with how good our program is vs. theirs. I really am completed stunned with some of the folks on here. All that matters is building this program.
  13. Geez. We could just join the Southland and play a bunch of Texas teams. Hell, let's just join the Lone Star conference.
  14. Neither. The last thing we need is to be in the same conference as one of these schools. We don't need two more Texas universities to recruit against. If we are lucky they will get stuck in the dying WAC and be forced to drop back to 1-AA. If we get to join the Alliance then I guess it would be okay for them to be in the Sunbelt (but I'd rather they be completely gone). I have nothing against either school, but I don't see how having them around helps us.
  15. The C-USA/Mountain West is starting to look really really weak from a media market perspective. There is just not much population in most of these areas. I think they're going to have to risk adding some large market teams even if those teams haven't drawn well historically. I think the following teams would be the only ones considered UNT (5th largest market) San Jose State (6th largest market. Does Fresno help cover this market already?) FAU or FIU (16th largest market. No need for both) Middle Tennessee (26th largest market) Utah State (36th largest market) San Antonio (37th largest market. Hmmm....my take would be to take UNT and one of the FU's to get to 18 (move UTEP West). If 20 is possible, then I'd also add MTSU and Utah State.
  16. I'm going to have nightmares after seeing this...
  17. Stupid jerks at Dr Pepper... Sounds like they will make a cane sugar version, but it's really not the same... No more Pretty Peggy Pepper.. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2012/01/dublin_dr_pepper_lawsuit_resolved.php
  18. We are now "Texas A&M University - North". Update: Hey it was a joke.. a joke. No need to ruin my sterling reputation.
  19. I'm just going to leave this right here......
  20. Guys. You are panicking for no reason. He is only talking about possible WAC defections because he has considered putting his other sports there. He's just riffing on what that league might look like. No worries.
  21. Some of the road games would be awful (Reno, ugh), but I would mind excuses to go to Fort Collins, Vegas, Hawaii, and San Diego.
