  1. Realistically anyone we hire is going to be some degree of an experiment. Sounds like a long shot, but let the guy interview. Maybe he will blow em away. Shoot, we've been pretty happy with our AD and he's just a guy who owned a few Domino's Pizzas.
  2. Oh.. I didn't realize you were flipping the bill for this one. Cool. Change my response to 'Nick Saban'. I hear he is pretty good.
  3. You realize we're going to have a hard time even getting a highly rated coordinator or FCS HC don't you? I'd be thrilled to get either. Part of the reason Dodge got another year is because there simply aren't any slam dunk coaches we are in a position to get.
  4. To be honest, I think the agreement is very poorly drafted. I'm not a lawyer and if you are Stebo I'll defer to your judgement. To me though the outcome is very silly. Your reading is that if BYU joined the conference they'd owe the money. Since they didn't they don't. However, the whole reason that BYU didn't join is because those 2 schools left (which defeated the purpose of the contract). My reading is that the contract was in effect prior to BYU joining and only "terminated" (did not "void") the contract when they did not join (or when the schools left which is what actually happened). I think section 9 clarifies the ambiguity of section 4. It's probably moot though as there probably won't be a WAC soon.
  5. That's actually not true. The agreement stated that the agreement would be terminated if BYU didn't join Sept 1. The contract was not voided and was in effect prior to Sept 1. This makes perfect sense if you think about it. You can't sign a contract contingent on an event occurring and then by your actions sabotage that very event. The only thing that is not clear to me is if only the first school who announced leaving would be liable or if both would be liable (technically the agreement terminated, I think, when an existing member other than Boise State or LA Tech left). But yes, I do agree the WAC is most likely dead.
  6. Yeah, they are pretty far off. Just as far as we are really. Who would add them? Only real possibility would be Big East and they are way, way out of the footprint.
  7. $$$.. BYU and UTAH were both solid teams...but the real thing is the loss of the market. BYU and UTAH had followings and ratings. The league has now dropped a lot in exposure. Boise State and TCU are both excellent football teams now, but there is no real reason to believe they will be 10 years from now. BYU has the best program even if TCU and Boise currently have much better teams.
  8. Andy Katz is reporting that BYU is going independent with a news conference later today. Other sports to the WCC. How does that impact us?
  9. I think what will be most interesting is where enrollments will be in ten more years. UNT should be at the 45k-50k mark. U of H, Texas State, UTSA, and Tech are all going to be sniffing around that same mark I think (with UTA and UTEP not far behind). As these schools all cap enrollment I suspect within a few years all the colleges will have pretty similar admission requirements and SAT scores. I can't imagine this will sit well with UT and A&M.
  10. I doubt the official requirements will change much if any, but capping enrollment will effectively make UNT more selective by not accepting everyone who meets the base requirements.
  11. I think UNT has a very nice campus, but I woudn't say it is an especially pretty campus though. It kind of reminds of the UT campus in a lot of ways. I think for what its worth TWU has a much prettier campus.
  12. But TSU does have Mamacita's next to the stadium which is just awesome. Aquarena Springs was cool back when they had mermaids and diving pigs (conservation types ruin everything)
  13. Is it too late to have open tryouts for the PK position? Surely out of 30k undergrads someone can kick field goals. We do have a girl's soccer time right? At least one of them could make PATs. Wasn't there a movie like that once
  14. So... it looks like Utah State ended up being hung out to dry for sticking with BYU. Should the Sunbelt consider adding Utah State as a condition to get BYU as a non-football member?
  15. I wonder if the CSU chancellor will allow Fresno State to leave and orphan San Jose State.
  16. MWC and WAC are fighting each other for life right now. MWC needs to pull in Nevada and Fresno to 1)keep Boise from bolting back to WAC and 2)kill the WAC so there is no basketball conference for BYU to join (though I'm sure there are plenty others to join). We're about to witness the death a conference here I think.
  17. Holy freaking crap.. this is horrible. You really think this is good news? We got beat out by such academic powerhouses as UTEP and Couger High. I guess at least we didn't get beat by Texas Sta.... what!??!?..they beat us.?!?. Nobody even bothers to attend class at Texas State. Everyone is always drunk and/or at the river. Well, I guess at least we beat out Sam Houston State....barely. Yay us! We made the list. Take that ITT Tech!!!
  18. Dude...honestly...if our program is doing its job (tutoring, hand-holding, etc) we should be able to get a old stump to graduate. Vince Young was passing his classes at UT and he was borderline retarded based on his (alleged) Wonderlic score.
  19. Well...the way I figure it..maybe all the bad luck last season was a Karmic offset to the "Miracle in the Desert". It takes 'a lot' of bad luck to offset that thing. Maybe we are straight with the football gods now.
  20. If kickers can be considered a bust, then I nominate Dan Walker.
  21. I thought that was what we recruited Grimey for?
