  1. "Coach, how would your leadership make UNT football more inclusive and better serve those students of marginalized communities?" "Coach, I believe we can all agree Katlyn Jenner is stunning and brave. Can you please describe how you would encourage your players with their own transgendered identity to better educate their teammates and the university at large on LGBT issues?" "Coach, what ideas do you have for encouraging environmental sustainability in your football program?"
  2. This is bull. What are we paying an AD for? A committee approach is just a way of avoiding blame if the next hire goes sour. We should just flat out not have an AD if this is the way we are going to move forward.
  3. meanrob, you don't need to lose any sleep. The threads you are referring to are hypothetical "what if Canales wins out" propositions. Canals isn't going to get 7, 6, 5, or even 4 wins. If Canales won out? Hell yeah, I'd consider him. But that just isn't going to happen.
  4. What? If he managed to win 4-5 games, he should be coach of the year. Hell, coach of the century. I'm not holding my breath though.
  5. I'm not sure all (or any) of those guys are going to have a P5 HC job within 3 years. Honestly, I don't think Spav is very good and Applewhite hasn't shown anything up to this point to deserve the adoration he has received. Of these guys, I'd go after Kendal Briles. I'm sure he could recruit well and there is a lot of upside if he is anything like his father. That being said, he is really really young and there is a chance he'd be overwhelmed. However, given where we find ourselves, I'd be happy to give him a shot. Also, keep in mind that if any of these guys got P5 jobs they'd probably be at low-end schools. It is a lot easier to make North Texas competitive in C-USA than Kansas in the Big 12. There also isn't much pressure given where we are right now.
  6. I don't get the love for Applewhite. He couldn't hack it with Saban and showed absolutely nothing as the OC at Texas. I see nothing about the man that would indicate to me that he would be a good HC. Also, he had an affair with a student trainer that would have had him kicked to the curb at any other school. At the end of the day, what we really need right now is not a new HC, but a new AD. The new AD can make the call on the HC.
  7. You know. I've mentioned this before, but Mark Mangino, who turned freaking Kansas into an Orange Bowl winner, is still stuck as an OC at Iowa State. He's probably one of the best coaches around and is affordable, but I know, I know he's fat....we certainly can't have that. Let's just go after Major Applewhite and throw another 5 years down the drain....
  8. He used to operate a Domonio's franchise long ago. It was a minor yet incredibly stupid selling point for the man when he was hired. It is still in his bio. Speaking of which, we really should dissect his bio on this board at some point. It is quite an....interesting perspective the man has on himself.
  9. Outside of a few bright spots that popped up here and there (and only briefly) UNT sports across the board have been pitiful under his tenure. Arguably, the biggest success was the football program he inherited that earned 4 straight conference titles. He has shown no ability to improve the status of the program. It's crystal clear that he is in over his head, yet there is no indication that he is on his way out. Why is that? Is he just personally popular with the administration and boosters? Is it just a general sense of apathy towards UNT sports that has kept him under the radar?
  10. How RV has remained AD here for so long is beyond belief. I honestly have no idea how godawful an AD would have to be to get fired at UNT anymore.
  11. Meh. The lawsuit is bull, but the firing was bull too. If I understand this correctly, they hired him well after he made the public comments. They didn't fire him because of what the HR office would think. Somehow I don't think firing people who believe homosexuality is immoral is current best practice. That was a very very stupid thing for their communications head to say (he probably isn't in the right line of work). They fired him because they were scared to alienate a portion of their audience (businesses hate controversy ). It's that simple.
  12. It doesn't matter how many infants are killed. This is what Pit owners are going to think of their dogs.. Absolutely delusional....
  13. That's an interesting list of names. All were pretty highly thought of in high school, but none really had (or are having) particularly good DI careers (though a few had their moments).
  14. How many NCAA tournament wins (in any sport) does UNT have under RV's tenure?
  15. Harry, He was hired over 13 years ago! It isn't like he was hired 4 years ago and has experienced some great turnaround. Non-revenue sports have been generally awful under his tenure.
  16. Agreed. That was so dumb. The only reason to extend a contract early is if you're afraid the coach might jump ship. DMac wasn't going anywhere regardless. It didn't make any sense.
  17. What I want to know is when Rick Villarreal loses his job. The level of mediocrity (and frankly mostly awfulness) of our sports programs under his tenure shouldn't be tolerated.
  18. That's idiotic for SMU, but whatever... I'd personally hire Mark Mangino if I were them. That guy won an Orange Bowl at Kansas and he put 40+ points up against Texas last week as Iowa State's OC (with arguably no more talent than we have). Of course you'd have to deal with the worry that he might have a heart attack any day.
