So we can prick them all we want too but the football coaches have recruited very well using "DALLAS" as a tag, and I expect the basketball team will as well. And do we have "PONY" envy? I don't understand our propensity to create SMU dialog as if we were jealous junior high students.

Regarding Benford, if memory serves we were paying off a fired football coach, didn't have the money to fire the basketball coach, so he coached the last year of his contract. Benford was a really nice guy who couldn't coach and didn't know what to do with Tony Mitchell.

His dad was all conference in 1988, and I think played only one year. The 1988 team included Tony Worell [sic?] and went to Utah for NCAA Sub -Regional's as a 16th seed where we were matched against North Carolina. My 8th grade son and I flew with the team and had a great time. The Mavericks were in town and we saw them play the Jazz.

No, it was our average.

It would be nice if Dr. Phil gave some money instead of a shout out. -
Big thought, looking ahead after the FAU loss

I was at last years SMU/Memphis game at Dickies Arena and it seemed like the Tigers had as many fans as the Stangs. Regardless the crowd looked like it was in the 100's. -
The MWC has 3 teams in top 25.

Mason - Signed for 2 more years by Saskatchewan

You are correct ! They do. I just never have checked that site out, plus it was a good article on Fine. With a new coach coming in Fine's job was up in the air. -

Amazon has quite a bit of Rough Rider merchandise including a wall clock that can be personalized. -
Also Liberty's last year starting QB dropped out of the portal and is returning. However I think the transfer QB enrolled at UNT before last year's starter decided to return to Liberty.

Father just accepted assistant coaching position at Texas State so I'm guessing Chandler will follow him there. -

Fine was signed as a backup so I doubt a jersey with his name is in the offering. I went to their web site as well as ebay and saw nothing personalized for sale. -
Correct. I was off by a few years. The men won the SLCC in 1988 and lost to North Carolina in sub regional played at Utah.Judy Nelson, Corky's wife , was the women's coach and won the Southland Conference Championship, which I think is only women's basketball conference championship we have ever won. We lost in the 1st round but I forget to whom and where. I should remember that the team played 85-86 as the athletic department had no money for a banner, reached out to me, and I paid $500 for the one hanging in the Supper Pitt. I only mention this in order to let those not around at that time how cash strapped and under funded our athletic department was. While we have been criticized for dropping down to the Southland Conference it was a bus league which was all we we could afford at the time. We still are underfunded do to the lack of financial support by our alumni base. Granted we have had a few graduates with deep pockets step up to the plate to fund the new indoor football and basketball practice facilities but our alumni giving lags all other D1 programs in Texas.

Should we storm the court if we defeat SMUt tonight?
wardly replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
In the past [ and I mean way back ] there was talk about having a holiday tournament in DFW with UNT,SMU,UTA, and TCU as participates.Naturally it sounded too good to be true, and as it turned out it wasn't.Oh well! -
That 1988 team was really good.

QB commit - Chandler Morris - transfer from TCU
wardly replied to DentonLurker's topic in Mean Green Football
One of the toughest QB I have seen play for the Eagles was Todd Dodge's son. He was undersized , took a lot of hits, and played hurt throughout his career. He left UNT when his father was fired , transferred to either McNeese or NE La. [don't remember which] ,and I don't think played much afterwards. -
Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches
wardly replied to Glory to the Green's topic in Mean Green Football
This was just a subjective question. You can probably review most first year coaches maiden record after the previous coach was fired and find some justification if they have a losing record. I think that Morris inherited a defense that no one expected to be the worst in the country and we lost two games we should have won, Navy and Memphis. If we go 7&5 its still the nation's worse defense but we had a winning season. -
Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches

List all the 1st year coaches and compare his record to theirs. While there are some coaches that have winning seasons after their predecessor has been fired they are in the minority. For example the Northwestern coach did, the Colorado coach didn't. -
Contacted the DMN. Here's Their Response.

Probably, but they get a fair amount of ink that we don't.
