  1. What are your ideas on a "New Southwest Conference" featuring teams from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas only? Right now, we're in the Sun Belt. We play MTSU, ARSt., WKY, et... We have been invited countless times to the WAC to join LATech and now TXSt. & UTSA. Sure, they're close and they may travel well to Apogee, but what about Utah State, Idaho, San Jose St...? Are those fans going to travel well? Are UNT fans going to travel to those places? What makes that scenario any better than an improving Sun Belt? Because, unfortunately, we have no other alternatives (keep your fingers crossed for a CUSA invite though!) Look, if we are counting on other teams travelling fans to Apogee in order to fill the stadium, we're doing something very wrong. Can you agree with that?
  2. "The Tops are falling apart like Humpty Dumpty."
  3. Precisely. Hence the comparison... Jones scored a bunch. Also, I made a point that the rest of the team appeared to be standing around watching him with the ball quite often... if this is what he's stuck with, then he needs to score. He definitely took what Tech gave him. I haven't seen enough of him to say: "He's a ball hog".
  4. This could not have been further from reality: Slow game (shot clock run down consistently on both sides of the floor). Not alot of scoring. sloppy OFFENSE all around. UNT loses I'm a terrible basketball prognosticator.
  5. Postgame thoughts: Chris Jones is scary-good, but with being scary-good comes being scary. He's young and will need time to develop, but (I can't believe I'm saying this right now) he looks like Josh White 2.0 in the early going. My only concern with Jones (and I think someone made a reference to Iverson in an earlier post) is that he is close to being a ball hog. I'm not sure why though... it could be because he's the only one doing anything. That DeWayne Wade style, circus shot layup late in the game was beautiful, but I hate it. Too much standing around on offense watching Jones dribble the ball around. Gotta have some movement so he can find open guys without turning the ball over. Jordan Williams is an enigma in the early going. I watched him make a strong move across the baseline early in the game for a nice finish. And then WHOA! That fast break alley-oop was the play of the night! He can fly. Strange 3 pointers out of him (none of which fell), I thought he was supposed to be a slasher type? I think he'll get his confidence in short order. When he does... watch out. Contrary to what alot of other folks are saying on here, I thought Holmen played a decent game and his shot selection was pretty good! Unfortunately, he wasn't hitting many of them... but neither was the rest of the team not named Chris Jones & Alzee Williams, which leads me to my next point... Where's Alzee? 14 min is not enough for him in this type of game. Need his defense on the floor, and he was hitting better than Jordan on O. Also, Where's Niko? I thought he was supposed to have a nice outside touch? Stats show he didn't get a single shot off in his limited minutes. I like him though. I thought defense was pretty good overall. Need to see more out of Edwards though. The difference in the game was that Tech wasn't as atrocious shooting the ball as UNT. Surely we won't shoot that badly on a consistent basis? Gotcher was a nice player. Too bad he didn't come up here.
  6. Oh! Since UNT football is playing tonight, we may as well have the football game on TV! PICK UP THE PHONE RICK!!!!1!
  7. UNT: 83 Tech: 79 Fast-paced game. Lots of scoring and probably some sloppy defense all around. UNT will win a FT shooting contest in the end.
  8. Hmmm... I found this little nugget interesting: Crockett had a great game against us last year. If he's not on the floor, we have an even better chance of winning.
  9. Probably beacuse they work out more.
  10. Wow! I knew Chris was going to be a good player, but I didn't know Johnny has become a puppet coach to him already?
  11. I dont think so... but Chris Jones' teammate Toddrick Gotcher plays for them.
  12. Very young, and very beatable... unfortunately, we look the same. I don't see a blowout either way though. I think this one could come down to a free throw contest after a pretty high scoring affair. Let's just hope we hit ours and they miss theirs.
  13. I wonder if "Bowen is an idiot" because he left? Kinda like the UNT "quitter" meme?
  14. "Zero tolerance" huh? Sounds like Taggart and WKU are pulling a page out of the PSU playbook on punishment.
  15. Texas Tech is showing 1 Senior and 3 Jr transfers on their roster (2 Juco guys and one from York College). The only holdovers from last year's game are Jaye Crockett (who I recall had a great game against us) and Javarez Willis who I believe we were close to signing before he went to a prep school and signed with Tech (Tasty/NT03/Cooley/et al. correct me if I'm wrong). It looks like Gillespie is going to let them run. I'm not sure if Johnny will play that style with him, but if he does, this game could turn into a barn-burner. Part of me would almost like to see this happen just because I'd love to see what Chris Jones and Trey Norris can do when the tempo is super fast. Also, I think Jordan would just kill in an uptempo game. There is SO MUCH YOUTH in this game that it's really impossible to tell what's going to happen... What do you guys think? I think the Franklin effect will loom large and UNT gets this win on the road. Tech has played some wild, high-scoring games so far this year, but they haven't seen a defense like this yet.
  16. The next 3 games for Houston are huge. Their SOS should improve alot, and if they can continue to pound teams like they have the past few weeks, they will be up in the BCS top 8 and get that BCS bowl they deserve. Pound SMU, pound Tulsa, and pound ranked USM in the conference championship game, and maybe, just maybe, they get a shot at the MNC.
  17. I really like Hamilton, but if Dunbar is anywhere near ready to play, you gotta start him. Remember all the talk during this summer between Dunbar and Rainey? Rainey insinnuating he is the better back, but Dunbar flat-out saying he is the better back? Well, this would be the week for him to prove it (again), and I bet he will.
  18. I bet it's because he supposedly has an extra ligament in his knee that helps him jump higher.
  19. One word to describe Tyler: Cerebral. His basketball IQ is just off the charts.
  20. Not sure who La Grange even is... but this score, coupled with the Tech score is concerning.
  21. "North Texas is looking to rebound from a difficult 5-25 season last year under Aston" Ummm...
  22. Wow! I didn't think losing Adams would hurt THIS bad?! Someone who knows a little more than me, please answer: Obviously, little defense was played, but what happened here? Is Troy this good? Is Tech this bad?
