They got beat by a 6-6 Boston College team (ACC, lol) in a pitiful 10am Bowl in Boston.  No respect and no win!

You're citing performance on the field in 1 game, after the fact.     No brother, they had already bought both.
Also, ...something about stones & glass houses... you know, since UNT was sitting at home watching that game.

These are the games that really make the hole in the paint stand out. That go to player that you can dish it to score regularly to get the momentum back when shooting isn't going well. We don't have that this year.

This is not a fair assessment since we didn’t have Buggs &, more importantly, Jones.

Lets get back to full strength & see wha we look like against these upper echelon AAC teams before overreacting.

fun fact…if you just buy Welch’s grape juice and let it sit out in the Texas sun in August for three straight days it ferments into better wine than any Chianti ever made.

I’m pretty sure this is what they serve as “house wine” at the downtown location of Il Mulino.

  4. All 4 of those guys would make this team immensely better.
For me, it comes down to Hamlet or Mitchell.
Javion for his handles, and ability to penetrate with that sweet left-handed floater.  And defensively, he'd get after you.
Tony for his off-the-charts talent/size combo, and defensive rim-protection.  A true videogame character.  If Allen wasn't contributing at the level he is, and we really only had Sissoko out there at the 5, it would be a no-brainer for him.

I haven't seen a dude with the killer instinct Javion had though (TP was close, as was Jordan Williams).   Adding his mentality and dribble into the lane, with the ability to either finish with that floater, or dish to an open Edwards/Scott/Jones/Buggs would be absolutely lethal.
    Give me Javion.

I would be very interested to know what happened last year.

Not a lot of info here, but it does confirm it was due to disciplinary issues.  It also said he wasn't a starter in Pete Golding's defense.

Also, in digging a little more, it seems the IASt fans grew frustrated with him due to multiple targeting penalties.

These posts defending Morris for his first year makes me think some of y'all subconsciously add a "for North Texas" qualifier to everything. Five wins is decent "for North Texas." We didn't get too much worst "for North Texas."

Reality is, taking a 7 win team and losing 2 less is bad. There's no way to sugar coat that. We played in a better conference? Cool. Our 2022 and 2023 schedules had 6 common opponents. Both SL and Morris went 2-4 against those 6 common opponents (in the regular season, not counting the CUSA CCG against UTSA). The only differences are that SL beat FIU and lost to UAB while Morris lost to FIU and beat UAB. We didn't fire SL and hire Morris to do the same or worst. We made the change to do better. You can't inherit a team with a winning record and have a losing record in year 1. That's fireable for the bigger programs. If we want to join those ranks, we should set similar standards.

Down with the needless "UNT's standards" qualifiers!    Tired of that BS.

In this portal cycle this is the 4th or 5th update from On3 that has popped up on my phone that has similar verbiage after a commit.. and it's absolutely disrespectful.

Have you not seen the amount of “surprise” here on GMG.com?  Utter shock that a depth guy at a P5 would actually choose UNT?!?  Wow, we’re so lucky!  (Not saying this as a knock on Mr. Shipley.  I really think he can come in here & contribute!)

It’s not like UNT is a great school with fantastic athletics & support/$ for athletes!  We must just be lucky a guy like him would even consider us, let alone commit. </sarcasm>

Why wouldn’t everyone else be “surprised” when that’s the pervasive thought of our own fanbase?

This was just a subjective question. You can probably review most first year coaches maiden record after the previous coach was fired and find some justification if they have a losing record. I think that Morris inherited a defense that no one expected to be the worst in the country and  we lost two games we should have won, Navy and Memphis. If we go 7&5 its still the nation's worse defense but we had a winning season.

No he didn’t, unless Bennett is a miracle-worker.  He brought in his own flat tire of a DC & hamstrung his defense from the jump.

I gotta respectfully disagree with you here. Morris wasn't coming in and replacing a terrible coach. Seth was a guy that had UNT playing "bowl game football", which is 6/7 wins a year. Obviously not stellar, but you can do much worse.

C- is a fair grade, but we can't compare 1st year Morris to last year Littrell. Seth had built something here, while Morris is still building up

Yes.   We absolutely can, and should.
Littrell was let go because he failed to live up to standards.   Morris was brought in, and we all should have expected to IMPROVE on Littrell's failure.  Immediately.   Look at TX St.   Look at UNLV.  ...then look at us.

    D, or worse.

By UNT standards, I would consider getting a hometown, P5 starting QB with good production in Chandler Morris a big name. No, we won’t attract the Caleb Williams type QB, but I’m sure if you ask any football fans of the AAC, they would know or have heard of Chandler Morris.

Again, another newer (at least, your handle is) poster throwing this fun little qualifier around.

It does not appear my dear Alma Mater will ever escape this thought from it's own fans.   When do we get to expect more?

I realize I wasn't specifically clear about the P5 transfer being a QB position. Being the QB1 for 10 games and getting PT as one of the 8 corners in a rotation are two completely different things. Morris has Rogers' experience but at the P5 level.

I really do think CMorris can put up big #s in EMorris’ offense.   We’ll see if he can stay healthy.  But if we need him to scramble & play hero-ball, I don’t know if his knees will allow it.

    He’s missing Spring ball.

    He’s missing Maclin.

He’s likely going to be playing from behind a lot due to the defense.

I’m just not expecting CMorris to be much better (if at all) than Rogers, and we were not bowl eligible.
