So strange. Never got past a text message. Radio silence since and no phone call leads me to believe UNT isn’t interested. 😕

But guess who is… UTSA. 🤢I heard from Ken’s father this morning that UTSA coach called yesterday and is very interested. UTSA currently has an offer out to a different portal QB and if he doesn’t take the offer, they want Ken.

Here we are, 4 days later...   Any update @C Rod?

Hoping Coach O didn't drop this receipt, and that he, along with multiple other coaches, including Morris, reached out?

If no, and we don't have another big-time, day-1-starter QB signed on ESD (December 20th), I'll be very disappointed in Morris' QB evaluations... something I never thought I'd say.

    Losing record check

Early departures of all the key players of 2023 check

No massive change for the defensive coaching staff with the worse FBS defense check

The only things we don’t have are players flunking out and/or getting in to embarrassing legal trouble

All our best contributing players getting poached from a 5-7 Mean Green team that didn’t make a bowl isn’t bottom of the barrel but it is a new water mark near the bottom.  It definitely could get worse but not by a huge margin.

Did you happen to be at Fouts Field on September 17th, 2005?  I was.
How 'bout Apogee Stadium on October 10th, 2015?  I was.

I've seen "worse" with my own eyes.    On both of those days, if you would have told me we'd have a 5-7 team with an incredibly explosive offense (albeit more of the same, defensively), I would have been very happy with that.   Now... Not so much.
Standards have changed.  That's a good thing.  Now we need the football program to rise up to those new standards.  6 wins is bare minimum.  Anything less than that is failure.  CCG should be the goal every year.

For some reason it is what we do here. A lot of people on here have an ex-girlfriend complex. You should see how often TP is mentioned on the basketball forum.

I admit, I randomly check on ex players just to see, but it isn't worth a post.

Tylor Perry has a diploma from the University of North Texas, just like you.(?)  He's one of us...  Let alone being the hero of one of the 2 high points of UNT Basketball history.
Pretty sure Rogers will as well if he's expecting to play next season.   But I highly doubt Rogers gets a lot of thought around here after the new year.  He succeeded here individually, which was great for him, but his team was not a success, so he likely won't be remembered for much.

I have more of an affinity for Riley Dodge than Chandler Rogers.   Both transferred out.

I'm sure all the players the Morris replaced at UIW probably didn't like him either, and then he built a roster that won multiple conference titles and a million dollar transfer QB.

It's still early. This roster is going to be filled with guys who want to be here and want to play for Morris. That's why Kinne was so successful at TX State this year. He went and got guys that actually want to play for him. This is no different IMO.

I haven't gone to look at what's going on at TX St., but it does seem different.

Your example might actually be an exhibit of the point I'm trying to make if Kinne's guys are staying around.   If Kinne brought in a bunch of guys, and they all are staying... but the guys Morris brought in here are leaving... that would indicate those guys bought-into Kinne, but our guys did not buy-into Morris.

Not sure if I’m going to say it’s just a UNT thing. To me, I think it’s an issue for all schools that are like UNT, where players will come to us from smaller schools, but we’re just a place for them to get a step up. Seems to be the new thing all across college football, not just happening in Denton

I bet it's a little of both honestly.   Sure, some of these guys will have good(better?) opportunities elsewhere.

It's just odd that several dudes who came in for just 1 year under a new regime would decide, "I'll leave after 1 year."  ... unless they didn't buy-in.

And he only gets the bag if he commits quickly. Cal's offensive system isn't nearly as QB friendly as ours. Hope the money was worth it. Not like Rogers going to get a shot in the NFL anyway at this point, especially leaving us, a system that highlights his talents. Hope his career aspirations in football go down the GD gutter. Bloesh is a douchebaging moron. He knows how to coach a decent line and that's about it.

This might be one of the dumbest takes I've seen on here in a long time.
Look at what his offense was able to do with Austin Aune under center.   Can you imagine what he could have done here with a dude like Chandler Rogers?

Just reeks of jilted lover syndrome.

Rodgers was great, but it seems clear that UNT was always going to be his stepping stool. Hasn’t posted any thank you to UNT, just his transfer announcement and his highlights. Maybe I’m just reading into it too much, but doesn’t seem like he bought in to UNT

@rojomojo  Have we ever stopped to consider the possibility that these players hate the atmosphere of North Texas and genuinely wanted to get away from Morris?

I think y'all are onto something here, and that is concerning.

Honestly, this is exactly the type of transfer we should be going after. Redshirt freshman who's spent 2 seasons in a P5 strength and conditioning program. He has P5 size, something we lack, and he'll use his free transfer to come in. We can have him for 3 seasons before he can leave again (unless be wants to sit out a season). He's also from DFW so this is coming home for him. If you're not excited by this commitment, you're just looking for reasons to be negative.

I certainly don't mind this pickup.  Definitely worth the offer.
But, as pointed out before, we have precisely 2 guys who have transferred in from a P5 and made huge impacts:  Marcus Trice, and Jamori Maclin.   That's it.   (People need to stop citing Guyton, because he didn't transfer here from Notre Dame, he transferred from Trinity Valley CC).
Sure, there are other guys who were in the 2-Deep, and contributed, but that's not what we need, and it's certainly not what many here are expecting in their excitement.
Behind guys like Terrell, Pegram, Plantin, who contributed enough to actually help the team, there is a laundry list of dudes who came in from P5's to do virtually nothing.
Guarded Optimism is what I have for Mr. Brice.  Rhymes with Trice, so that's gotta be a good thing.

The old system treated players as commodities. A sure first round NFL pick dominating player was priced identical to the 85th scholarship player on the roster who ended up playing senior day if and maybe a couple blowouts.

A bushel of corn is a bushel of corn. New system is going to have glitches but should eventually become a market economy where being last scholarship player at Michigan pays very little over a scholarship and being a hoss gets you real money.

This makes sense, until you get to the part where the stupid-rich schools throw around so much money that the guy who is #85 on the money list is still making more than a top-5-paid guy at UNT or ARSt.   Because that's where we're headed.
Those guys used to be the ones who would transfer out for an opportunity to play more.   Now, they'll have a financial decision to make, and that's really tough.   Money talks.  PT is earned and can be lost (be it to another player, or injury).

The comments by Jeff Traylor in this article about long-term athletic funding concerns at UTSA sounds a lot like what UNT officials and fans have said over the years.

UTSA had $37 million in athletic expenses in 2021-22, fifth lowest among AAC schools and $7 million below UNT.

He says at the end, "Do we just want to be a stepping stone? Do we just want to be a minor league? Is that just OK? I just don’t see this city that way. I don’t see this university that way. I don’t see myself that way. I know we can do it. It’s just, we need a miracle."

The way college football is shaping up it may be just enough for people like me to say "sayonara".  What happened to the days of college athletes graduating and getting an actual degree?

I don't know why people think this part is not still happening.  They're still student athletes.  All of them are still getting free tuition, room&board, attending classes (even if they're online), etc...   It's just that they're getting paid in-addition to that now.

A lot of these guys transferring out of UNT have degrees with their names on them like we do.

Well now that we have lost so much of our offense, maybe it will suck as bad as our defense.

Offensively, I trust Morris' system will truly be a "Next man up" scenario.
I hope the guys who are already here know this, and are ready to step up and get their 1000-yd season for their opportunities to get paid.
It's not the best scenario for UNT, but it's a positive one.

With all of these schools competing for Jamori's services... he's definitely going to win financially.

I hope he writes personal "Thank You" notes to coaches Littrell, Bloesch, Morris, & Davis for helping him get there.   It was fun watching him while here, and I hope he does well wherever he winds up.

Objectively stupid.  If someone offered you a million bucks and you don't have a mortgage or rent and all your food is paid for and free gym membership, better work facilities you'd be foolish not to go. Not blaming Rodgers for the sins of the ncaa.

This is the most important frame of reference here.

These guys are transferring, because that is what the system is now encouraging them to do.

It hurts us, as fans, to lose players we've come to enjoy watching suit up in Green.  But it's not fair for us to get mad at them when they have an opportunity to earn 6, or even 7 figures playing football for a couple of years.   There's not a single person here on this site who wouldn't make that trade.   Don't even lie @Andrew.

Now, dudes who were stuck on the bench... they're simply transferring to have an opportunity to play.   We shouldn't be mad at them in the first place.
