  1. Dickey was here for nine years....that means Mac gave his good buddy $110,000 a year on average for football. We have donors who give that much annually, although not always to athletics. Hell, we have gotten over 3 million to the university over the last month or so. Only difference? Those donors did not want to have their names in neon and control the areas of the university they donated to.
  2. If the team is exciting and starts to win by big margins we will start to get the people out. Blakeley played some small schools, but beat them by twenty or thirty and were exciting to watch. It could happen again.
  3. The athletic administration could have at least advised those sitting in sec. 118 that the bench was moving so those folks who are the hard core NT fans could have had the option of moving over to sec. 220 to sit behind the NT team once more. They also could have informed the ex-lettermen that their ex-letterman's id card was no long good for free admission to the game. I realize that they could barely have squeezed the ex lettermen into the packed pit last night, but surely they could have compted the ex lettermen in an told them of the policy in the future.
  4. I don't know how familiar you are with UNC-Charlotte, but in the infancy of their program they referred to themselves as the Mean Green. One of our music alums was the band director, so their fight song very similar to ours. I don't know if that has changed. I think that they now call themselves the 49ers, which is derived from interstate 49 that goes through Charlotte.
  5. While one million dollars will be hard to recoup, it can be done if we make the right hire. Pouting alumni who are loyal to a coach and not a university are not solid sources of income. The right hire can generate the revenue through tickets sales and licensing money plus the opportunity to go to a bigger conference and a bigger bowl in the future.
  6. Hank Dickenson is a Kansas Jayhawk graduate. If you don't believe me, just ask him....he follows every move the Jayhawks make....at one time he even had a Jayhawk sticker on his vehicle.
  7. The athletic world does not begin and end at Southern Mississippi.... Rick has been an athletic director long enough to have a much bigger overview of the NCAA scene than to constantly go back to Southern Miss for help.
  8. Just for the record, there is no such thing as Lady Eagles...Mean Green or nothing, ladies.
  9. I did not hear Dunham's comments, as I do not listen to sophomoric radio, but I will tell you that Dunham is a university employee and needs to tow the company line if he wants to hang around. No doubt he has done a lot for the university through his broadcasts, but publicly bucking the university on the air is not a good move ( assuming that he did ) as some of you have mentioned. The Mercer situation is forgiveable, as the corrosive hand of Craig Helwig was in the middle of the firing of Mercer. Dunham was a casual participant but not the instigator.
  10. Now that Darrell has been dismissed, what is next for him? Can he get another D-1 job? Will he retire from coaching due to health concerns? Just curious what you all think might be in his future.
  11. Now that NT is interviewing for a new coach, what attributes should we look for? I think that he needs to be energetic, driven, outgoing with the general public and fans and have a good knowledge of the Texas high school scene. What think ye?
  12. According to the Denton R-C article on the game, Davis had an ankle sprain, but is expected to play on Friday night vs. Cameron. He might want to stay off it until next week, as I doubt that we will need him for Cameron. I am excited about UTA and Tulsa coming to the SuperPit soon.
  13. I am amazed that there have been no signs, no shirts, etc. protesting the state of the Dickey football team. Are we just too mellow or have we just quit caring? At most universities the anti coach signs would have been out and even shirts worn to the game protesting the situation. Why haven't we done this? I am just as much to blame as the rest, as I have not made any signs, etc. Come to think of it, would we be allowed to put signs on the lower railing at Fouts? Two signs that come to mind that I might do are: "Denton, we have a problem." or "UNT, home of college football's 'difficult situation.'

There is not a team in America who is Iwho would hire Dickey. That's that fact, Jack. Part of it, frankly, is his now widely known health issues.
  15. I'm sure the New Orleans Bowl will be thrilled to death with the crowd SMU will bring to New Orleans. I would not anticipate more than 4,000 from SMU.
  16. I would be far more amicable in keeping Dickey if he could just convince me that he wants to be here. The Mean Green faithful can withstand many challenges as long as he know that Dickey is with us....he is not. He has made that very clear. He works under dire circumstances here and we do not afford him a place to be competitive....bull. Dickey should do himself and us a favor and move on.
  17. If you happen to go to the North Texas vs. Florida Atlantic game in November, just look around at the empty seats and do the math on the amount of revenue lost that Saturday night. It is not can we afford to fire Dickey, it is can we afford to keep him.
  18. We have about 50 people who spend much of their time chasing their tails and attending conferences designed to show them how to fund raise, should they decide to work on any given day.
  19. Most all of you on this board are strong supporters of North Texas and, like me, feel bad about abandoning our alma mater's athletic program. So, here is my answer to getting rid of Dickey. Contact the athletic department that you will no longer buy season tickets if Dickey is still coach and you will not give to the athletic department. To satisfy your sense of loyalty to UNT, just take next year's games game by game as far as buying tickets and instead of giving to an athletic department that has chosen to keep Dickey, give what you did this year to the general scholarship fund of the university. That is what I plan to do if Dickey stays for next year.
  20. Good to see that Dickey experiences the same 'weird and unpleasant' experiences when he watches the games that we do.
  21. I had to chuckle when I saw the photos of Dr. Bataille. Can you imagine Al Hurley doing this? If so, he would be in a coat and tie and certainly not be wearing a North Texas Football shirt. Way to go, Dr. Bataille.
  22. The band does a great job. I have no complaints, but while we are on the 'Texas theme', here are a couple of things that bother me. One, there is no Texas flag flying at our games and secondly, the Texas flag does not have to be dipped lower than the US flag by the flag corp. As a condition of Texas joining the union in 1845, the Texas flag is allowed to always fly at the same height as the US flag.
  23. No, it is not typical for a coach to leave immediately after a game. Usually they stay around for quite some time. Many make notes, etc., while the game is on their mind. Flanagan was probably headed to an SMU game watching party since the Ponies were playing out in El Paso and he could catch the second half.
  24. I went to the Athletic Hall of Fame Breakfast on Saturday morning and Dr. Bataille spoke briefly. I found it very interesting that she already has picked up on the fact that the university is so little known nationally. She was referred to as new president of a small school in northern Texas in some publication. She immediately shot back a response to the author of the article pointing out that she was the new president of a large in school in north texas and told of enrollment, degrees, etc. The point that I want to make is that I think that she will use athletics to get the perception of the school up. She may not eat and sleep athletics, but I think that she is going to ride the athletics horse to upgrade perception of the school I look for marked improvement in athletics future with her.
  25. In the event that North Texas decided to go back to Division I football, it would be a great series. Currently, we could not compete with TCU and it would be an embarassment.
