  1. Chancellor and Orr with both get a shot at the next level. If either gets drafted, it'll be later on, most likely 6th or 7th round. Chancellor is shifty enough as well as strong and low to the ground that he naturally makes a good return man b/c he's not easy to bring down. I'm not sure he has 'great' enough hands to play at the next level as a true WR but the fact that he can be a special teams player only increases his odds.
  2. Circle this date on your calender folks and start telling your friends, family, co-workers, fellow alums and anyone who will take the time to listen to be there. We need to move that crowd that showed up yesterday to the Cotton Bowl 45 miles north to Apogee Stadium when we take on the Ponies of SMU. I'm already looking forward to this for all of the obvious reasons. We as a university need to come full force to show that we are the team to beat in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. On another note, I can't say enough how proud I am of this current bunch of kids. What a great season. This is what the Mean Green Nation has been waiting for. And as Mac said yesterday, this is not the end but the beginning. With his leadership, I can't do anything but agree. GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. I'm pulling for the Cardinals tonight to upset Northern Illinois and go on to win the MAC. I'm also hoping we get a little pub tonight on national TV. They always seems to post the schedule of each team and do a little recap of the season, so we should at least get a mention.
  4. I know the championship is played on the home turf of the team with the best record in conference play. ECU and Marshall each have one loss with each other left to play. If we win out and one of those two ends up 7-1, how will it be determined who has home field advantage? Just wondering if anyone knows. Beat UTSA!
  5. Just curious, but what's the $300 'other' pay?
  6. FREE BACON. K-State's women's basketball team is giving away free bacon before their home opener Friday. "Due to demand and the activity on social media, the bacon order has now increased from 100 pounds to 300 pounds," Peterson said. Kansas State Offers Free Bacon (ESPN)
  7. Ohio looked absolutely inept last night. Wish we could play them now instead the second week of the season. We have improved a lot while that team seems to have digressed quite a bit. The MAC has three, maybe four good teams but the rest of the conference is terrible.
  8. I had us at 6-6 with wins over Idaho, Ball State, MTSU, Southern Miss, UTEP, and UTSA. I had no idea LaTech would fall off the way they have, so there's that one. I'm telling you right now, we can win every game left. After we win this Saturday, the Rice game will be huge. If we win that one, which I think we will have a good chance to do in front of a home crowd, this team will have a lot of momentum to finish out the season. I have a feeling something special is going to happen this year.
  9. Looks like Canales was not retained when Skip Holtz came to town. Holtz became the head coach at USF in 2010, which was Canales' first year in Denton. Sounds like there's some bad blood there. I'll take the extra motivation.
  10. You could have this as your logo. I think I'll stick with what we got. .
  11. North Texas - 34 Middle Tennessee - 20 I think we show up and have a good game after a disappointing loss last week. We tend to play much better at home and hopefully we avoid another first quarter slump. Also, I think that as the season continues to progress, we will begin to realize how big of a win we got vs. Ball State. They are looking like they might end up with a 10 win season. They could very well enter their matchup @ Northern Ill. with us as their only loss and playing that game for a potential BCS berth. Very lofty but feasible. My preseason pick was for us to win 6 games. I'm upping that to 7 with wins vs. MT, Southern Miss, LT, UTEP, & UTSA.
  12. The fact of the matter is, outside of Georgia, we have a real chance at winning every game left on the schedule. I'm not saying we do win them all, but we have a real chance at each game left. Ball State will be a challenge this weekend for our defense. They have a good, veteran QB that will test our secondary. Tulane is very beatable, having lost to South Alabama at home (gave up 41 points on 465 total yards offense). La-Tech has a first year coach and has seemed to regress from last year. Southern Miss might be the worst team in the country. UTEP and UTSA will be good matchups but I feel good that we get them at home. Tulsa is not the same team they have been the past few years (got drummed by NC State and squeaked by a bad Colorado St. team) . To me, the toughest game outside of Georgia left is Rice but we get them at home too. We missed a huge opportunity last weekend in getting a win. If we want to become bowl eligible, we could really use this one vs. Ball State. That would leave us with needing 4 wins to become bowl eligible, which is very, very doable with what's left. Its even feasible if the chips fall right that we end up winning our division. Or we could do as we have done lately and flame out. There's a ton of football left to be played and only time will tell.
  13. Dunbar gets some fantasy love from the Talented Mr. Roto. "Dallas Cowboys: I say the running back on the Cowboys with the most fantasy points at the end of the year? Lance Dunbar. You heard me. What I'm thinking: Other than DeMarco Murray will get hurt? Once Dunbar gets healthy, they're going to use him in a "Darren Sproles-type role" (that's actually what they said they'll do, not just me thinking it) and this is a pass-first team (31st in rush attempts last year). Bill Callahan promises a more balanced approach, but I'll believe it when I see it. Same thing for Murray staying on the field." Matthew Berry's 32 Bold Predictions
  14. I'm not concerned with the over/under here. The original post brought up the key point to this offense, red zone efficiency. We were in the middle of the pack in yardage (51st in the nation in rushing & 73rd in passing & 67th in total offense) and did a decent job taking care of the ball (.08 turnover margin for 55th in the nation) but somehow we were 103rd in the nation in scoring (20.9 points per game). It seemed like every time we got to the red zone, we shuttered down. I'm hoping Darius Terrell can come on and give us a red zone target to throw to. Last season, we had nothing outside of the tackle box to threaten the end zone except maybe Chancellor, who really isn't a red zone threat with his size. He's more of an open field threat (see Wes Welker TD produciton). Plain and simple, we have to execute inside the 20. If we can do that, we add 2 to 3 more wins this season. http://web1.ncaa.org/football/exec/rankingSummary?year=2012&org=497
  15. The over/under for total wins on the season is 5.5 games. Would you put your hard earned money on the over? I'm going with the over with wins vs. Idaho, Ball St., Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, UTSA, and UTEP.
  16. I think Coach Mac is making the right decision here. Its my belief that DT has earned the right to get the first crack at the job. He has experience and has shown that we can win with him under center. He hasn't had much help on the receiving end, not the mention that our defense has been less than stellar. I understand the QB gets all of the blame (and fame) for wins and losses, but this TEAM can win with DT. Like I said, I think he deserves a chance in the opener to prove that the job is his. If he doesn't perform, then let's start looking at Plan B. But get behind DT and give him a chance to prove himself.
  17. If you look back to the offense that Canales ran while he was at USF, he really likes to utilize the dual threat QB. Canales hasn't had that kind of QB since he's been here and I think his offense would function much better with a dual threat QB. If you look at the other skill positions, a dual threat QB could make this offense much more difficult to defend. We have 2 proven RB's (Jimmerson/Byrd) with a really good third option (Pegram). Chancellor is a great underneath weapon with lots of speed and elusiveness in the open field. If Darius Terrell can come in and stretch the field north and south, this offense will force opposing defenses to cover much more space. As of late, defenses could focus on the running game along with a short, to medium passing game. In theory, this offense could really spread the field and force defenses to cover a lot of territory. I say if its a tie, go with Dajon. He will only mature with time and will allow Canales to run the offense that he really wants to. Look at the stats of the two QB's Canales worked with a USF. Lots of QB runs, plus Daniels was a freshman with Canales calling plays. Matt Grothe Stats BJ Daniels Stats
  18. Yahoo Article "Florida International has booted leading rusher Kedrick Rhodes from the team following an arrest over the weekend. The Panthers' top back was charged early Sunday morning with discharging a weapon on school property, a second-degree felony, and three misdemeanors. The FIU statement said that Rhodes was dismissed for a "violation of team policy," but it's not hard to connect the dots from getting arrested over the weekend for firing a gun on campus to getting booted from the team on Monday. Rhodes had 714 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns last season, along with 19 catches for 235 yards. The loss of Rhodes means that new coach Ron Turner's best returning rusher will be quarterback Jake Medlock, who tallied 375 yards on the ground last year. The most productive returning back is Shane Coleman, who had 8 rushes for 32 yards. Rhodes, a senior, was even more productive in 2011, when he rushed for 1,189 yards and 8 touchdowns.
  19. Headed to LaTech. I think this a good hire for them. He had a rough run at USF but was very successful at ECU. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8745616/sources-skip-holtz-accepts-head-coaching-job-louisiana-tech-bulldogs
  20. ESPN "Harsin signed a five-year contract for $700,000 annually, including a $1.75-million buyout if he leaves during the first year. That buyout lowers to $1 million in the second year, $500,000 in the third, $300,000 in the fourth and $100,000 in the fifth."
  21. One, I was looking at the box score from last night and noticed Tony Mitchell only had four shot attempts. I did not listen to the game but what's the deal with that? Two, we are 9 point favorites tonight. Would you take that bet?
  22. This helps explain why we are 100th in the nation in scoring offense. We move the ball effectively but always seem to bog down when we get close. And I would attribute much of not scoring in the red zone to ultra conservative play calling. We have seldom, if never, throw the ball on a first and goal. And low conversions on third and short can be traced back to the ultra conservative play calling and Coach Mac's old school philosophy of manning up and getting it done on short yardage situations.
  23. "Apparently they are a 3.5 point favorite, basically home field advantage for the most part." Diddo. Odds makers are basically saying this a pick with Middle Tennessee getting the slight edge for home field advantage. We've had a week and a half to prepare. I'm hoping we put everything on the table for this one. I think our D can slow them down and their defense gives up a lot of yards (442 yds/game). It will come down to if we can execute in the read zone.
  24. I could be paraphrasing, but after the game, McCarney had this to say to the reporter on the field, "We're not where we want to be but thank God we're not where we used to be." I couldn't agree more. This a crucial game coming up vs. Middle Tennessee. IF we can find a way to win this next one, we have two very winnable games at home vs. Arky State and South Alabama. That would set us up for two heavyweight matchups to end the season. This conference is deeper than its ever been and we have to bring our A game against everyone. I like the fact that we have a week and half to prepare for this next game. Good coaches tend to make the most of more preparation time. We should be primed and ready to go.
  25. He continues to impress me with his hands. Always seems to make grabs if its anywhere close and when he's well defended too.
