  1. I couldn't disagree with this take more. Ryan Wooldridge and Smart by FAR have the most offensive freedom. I actually think he harder on AJ than anyone else on the team.
  2. The ODU writer that wrote it is trash. He writes inflammatory stuff all the time and it's almost always wrong. No one wants ODU except maybe the 'belt. If they wanna go there, be my guest.
  3. Yeah Vito did a good job explaining it. ODU was one that got $1.3 million. They are playing the home opener for Liberty's first ever FBS season. One more time for the blind and deaf. The decision wasn't on Liberty. The decision was to get out of the Army games. WB and SL didn't think playing Army 6 more times was in the program's best interest. For those of you that don't agree, fine. But that's obviously how our Coach and AD felt. So they wanted out of Army series. There was only ONE (I repeat ONE) school in the country that had those dates available. It was Liberty because they were new to FBS and had to schedule. But Liberty knew they were the only school that could take the games. They asked for a home and home to do the deal. UNT was going to have a hard time filling the early part of the Army series they gave up for the same reasons no other schools were available to take the Army series. So they did the deal. And used the new dates to get Houston, CAL and I think a MWC school (but I can't remember which one). It's not like our admins did a deal with Liberty free and clear because they found them to be a compelling match-up. At the same time, they pushed Wisconsin back several years. They did it to fix the damn schedule. And get to the model WB tweeted last week. Maybe I'm getting forgetful but I swear this board didn't used to beat a dead horse like this issue. It's hijacked dozens of threads.
  4. I agree. While I don't discount coaching having an impact, I've read and observed experience wins close games more often than not. So when you combine 2nd year with this coaching staff, roster improvement and more experienced team I think 20-23 wins is realistic. Not to mention, this season the top of the league is better than it's been seen conference realignment. MTSU, WKU, ODU are all really good. Marshall is talented offensively, but not that good IMO. MTSU and ODU lose a lot.
  5. No doubt! They ain't having to worry about how they "Finish" now.
  6. Which allowed us to pick up Cal and Houston. When will the Liberty whining end?
  7. Public University construction timeline is usually two years minimum. 6-9 months design. 1-2 months to bid out for construction. 10-12 construction. Add in additional time if bonding is used for financing, etc. This project has been board approved. Architects have been selected. As soon as design is complete, they'll bid out for construction. By design, I don't mean pretty renderings but rather actual constructions drawings and plans. I'd assume an indoor would be on the short end of the timeline since it seems like simple construction. But again, it's board approved. My guess is it is being paid for through bonding so University is going through that process. I've never seen athletic department say $700k left. I've only seen it on this board. But it sounds like project is proceeding regardless. My understanding following campus and athletic projects over the years is projects don't go to the board without everything in place to proceed.
  8. I think this is sorely needed and key to continued growth. We don't currently have a campus "front porch." This can be it. I like the way Smatresk things. Wow people with a shiny first class visitors center. It will be the first and last place they visit on their tour.
  9. I didn't think it would either. Happy to be wrong. Congrats to everyone who had a hand in it.
  10. There isn't a single CUSA team that breaks even in any sport which is why they need student fees and campus help to make a budget. I agree NT stepped up with Mac and staff (just like FB), but I can't imagine any NT athletic program "breaking even" in terms of total expenses = total revenues.
  11. I wonder if it's the same student that caused problems last time? There's always one or two.
  12. I'm not sure he'd say any different though. I want to be optimistic here but honestly I think it fails 55-45. Hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it unless turnout is super low.
  13. Would be curious as to particulars. University logos are trademarked and everyone pays to use them. But that shouldn't have stopped a fundraiser like this if it was a legitimate vendor printing the merchandise. Maybe couldn't sell on campus because bookstore has those rights? Not sure. "North Texas" thing is perplexing. Maybe to eliminate confusion if there is both an intercollegiate and club team?
  14. I was on a club powerlifting team. Club sports is an awesome thing for students. But club sports are just that a club. I don't know the count now, but a few years ago over 7,000 students participated in club or rec sports. There's simply no way any University could fund them all. The theory behind club sports is that many students were athletes in HS or love a sport they've played all their life. They aren't playing on an intercollegiate team for variety of reasons. Sport isn't offered at their school, they weren't talented enough to make an intercollegiate team. Maybe they had D2 offers but wanted to go to a D1 school but still want to stay active in a sport. It's a club not unlike a non-sports club. Think intramurals but against other colleges with kids usually more devoted to the sport. Pretty much all you need is a group of dedicated students and a faculty member willing to be the adviser. Often there are club teams of sports the University actually has an intercollegiate team in. Students in these kind of clubs and orgs usually have higher grades, etc. There is limited funding you can apply for. But it doesn't go far.
  15. I was thinking the same. Dude at bottom right looks 40 or better. I'm not hating. More power to him.
  16. Scholarhip bill is over $5 million according to the paper. MGSF is at $1 million. So they would have -$4 million to spend elsewhere.
  17. I emailed athletics marketing. Student section is the same. WB or anyone else hasn't made changes. Students just haven't been there. Kind of lost an identity. I would prominently mark the section and ask security to enforce it.
  18. Not according to everything I find. For instance, this is ODU webpage outlining all student activity fees. https://www.odu.edu/content/dam/odu/offices/finance-office/docs/tuition-rates/student-activity-fee-on-campus-2017.pdf Charlottes website says their athletic fee is $824 per year. That's $412 per semester. At 12 hours, that's $44.33. I don't know what you mean by transfers but it's pretty clear what ODU and Charlotte charged based on the information on their website. You can also google their name and athletic fees and find stories about both. One article I found on Charlotte said they get almost $25 million from student fees.
  19. I'm for adding baseball but do wonder why everyone always assumes we'll be competitive automatically. What advantages would a UNT baseball team have over other UNT teams? I've always wondered that when people advocate for it. If we add baseball, I'd be in the front of the line for tickets but I'm not sure it would just sky rocket like some seem to believe.
  20. I think the UNT fee requirements were put in by the students. It only stated the fee couldn't be charged until bonds were acquired and stadium constructed but the money can go for facilities or the athletic program. This is on the UNT website. Gives info on all fees. https://policy.unt.edu/sites/default/files/UNT Tuition and Fees Admin Manual_10.028_0.pdf UTSA is far from the highest. This may be old but I found an article on CUSA fees. Here are a few that stand out. Charlotte is $44.32 per hr, ODU is $54 per hr. Most of the rest is between $15-$20. I remember reading where the state of Virginia may put in fee restrictions primarily due to how high ODU's fee is. One note to consider everyone's enrollment is different so one school getting more $$$ per hour may not actually get more $$$ overall.
  21. Just found this. http://goutsa.com/sports/2018/1/19/2018-utsa-student-referendum-faqs.aspx It appears they are indeed moving forward with an increase but are having to get a student vote. Also appears their campaign materials homework came from looking at UNT's website.
